Did any of the French plantationers in the Redux have a qt vietnamese mistress, much like our own, historical plantation owners in The South did with their slaves? The Thomas Jefferson of Indochina?

This is correct. Redux was just to sell more DVDs, and made it a wacky surf romance.

Calling the french plantation stuff "a scene" kinda undersells just how fricking long it is. It is basically a short film in the middle of the movie.

        >t. autist oty
Fine, section. It's a colloquialism in this sense, and everyone knew what those posts were talking about.

If you're in a thread where people who haven't seen the movie ask about the difference and everyone just says "french plantation scene" without even going into how long it is, yeah its actually a bit important to underscore the fact that in a normal 90-120min movie that section would be something like the end of the first act or the entire second act.

So how long is the French plantation scene, Mr. Shalit?

25 minutes. Its the majority if the material added to the redux version. The dinner scene alone is almost half of that.

the plantation scene is kino and if you dislike it you have officially been filtered

I should add that I am not against extended cuts, and I have no problems with long and slow paced films. Most online people say to watch the theatrical cut, because it's very fast paced, so that bam bam bam, insane stuff happens until Brando shows up, and then it ends.
Their arguments against the Redux and the extended cut is that they are slow, meandering, drag the pace down, and add nothing of value.

Main issue with the French plantation scene is that it shouldn't be that late in the film. At that point the spiraling into darkness is peaking up pace and that sequence represents an abrupt stop that meanders before meeting Kurtz.

Theatrical, but if you really enjoy it you'll probably like the other cuts as well.

Theatrical. As others have noted, the extended and new scenes in the others are very poorly paced and don't contribute enough to the heart of the film to justify themselves. If you love the film (and you should), you can go back and watch one of the others another time. You'll get an extended experience with a little more to chew over.
But you will only see this for the first time once in your life, and theatrical is absolutely the right choice for that experience.

Redux is the only version I've seen and I loved it. The french plantation scene should be reduced to only a minute or two then it would be perfect. I still haven't gotten around to watching the theatrical, but at this point I'd probably just be upset that things are missing.

There's a scene where they meet the playboy bunnies again in a dilapidated camp and willard trades fuel for sex with the bunnies but it's such a weird dreamlike scene that it just pushes the madness even further where chef just dresses a girl up with a wig and Lance is in some kind of trance as he facepaints his girl, it's such a weird and uncomfortable scene I think it's great

In this moment he had to assert dominance because the boatmates weren't respecting The Mission, notably chief. They were still optimistic and not understanding the situation they were in

In the later moment Willard had asserted dominance but recognized the extremely low morale and hopelessness of their situation and probably gave up any chance of getting back so he bargained them with some sex to keep the pyrrhic mission going

None of them. It's a crappy film, aside from the Charlie Don't Surf sequence.
It meanders pointlessly from one scene to the next, stringing you along with the promise that when you finally meet Kurtz the whole film will coalesce, but instead you just get fat, disinterested Marlon Brando rambling nonsense for half an hour.
It's well shot with some interesting visuals, but over all it's just not a good film.
