I want to visit some Eastern Front sites, was thinking on starting with the Don Bend ares.
I see there are some tours available, private guide and car but they seem really expensive.
Did you visit with a tour or on your own? I feel I dont want to spend thousands of $€££

I live here. I did visit Volgograd and saw some things, we had a cab driver moving us around, but to most places you can get a street car or a bus.
But I mean further away places like Pitomnik, Kalach, the cemetery etc.
Well, here are some advices
1. When you are trying to plan your route, use Yandex or 2GIS maps. They're just more precise than google.
2. Inside of Volgograd you can ride public transport or have a yellow car. After uberisation (or rather yandexisation) of taxi business it's easy to get a ride but you don't get to bargain anymore. But you can try to talk to some cab driver in person and convince him to drive you around for few days for a price. That's what I would do. Taxi is not very pricey in smaller cities.
3. Better get yourself a plan of places you want to visit, and get their names right. Know their working hours.
>Pitomnik
I think you won't find anything but a boring soviet memorial in Pitomnik. It's a field used by farmers right now. If you want to see Volgograd airfields used by germans, you may just travel there by plane, you will land on Volgograd International Airport in Gumrak, on that exact spot.
>Kalach
Be sure that you know what you want to see there, because you might be disappointed in the process. It's a small provincial town.
Also, if you want, you may visit Sarepta. They have some materials on Volga Germans colony there and they were some of the first major mustard manufacturers in the Empire
Thanks a lot, I think I will just rent a car and try to find a local to go to all these places
fun fact frick ya mudda guy is actually a jannie
