it's not the gun's fault you feel left behind by society. it's probably the fault of you growing up breathing lead, and it's leaching out of your bones as you age, degrading your cognitive capacity to adapt to your cultural environment. or, more simply, turning you degenerate. empathy's the first to go, so what's left of your ability to analyze others is mostly down to what other people tell you to feel (sign of deteriorated critical thinking skills) coupled with projection.
realistically, whatever behavior in others is "degenerate" will either demonstrate that it's an improvement on existing behavior or eliminate itself by failing to compete. it's a problem that will solve itself without your input.
your fear of degenerate behavior is grounded, because at some level you're aware of your decline, and rightfully it horrifies you.
lead leaching from your bones though, you actually need external medical help with chelation for that, unless you want to have early dementia. anyone who grew up before the 1990s likely needs regular lead level checks, as developmentally acquired lead can be sequestered in bone tissue and the deterioration of bone tissue with age will release it, turning a previously benign accumulation of lead into an internal, chronic source of it directly into your blood.

unfortunately. not all of you dies at once
and the brain is rather flame resistant (see: US reports on the effects of thermobaric weapons)
loss of consciousness likely does not occur until total organ failure has deoxygenated the blood, which might be upwards of a full minute. it's impact that kills instantly - fire just destroys the ability to demonstrate that you're still conscious quickly while your still-conscious brain sends signals to nothing, protected from the flames by the skull

if it destroyed the brain instantly, the cranium would explode from the pressure of flash-boiled cerebrospinal fluid and blood

That was fuddlore created by flamethrower manufacturers and advocates of the weapon within the army.

I like it. It continues the mainline show's theme of being true to yourself (putting points in explosion magic or party tricks) and reaping the consequences, good and bad, from doing so. It also has a neat depiction of what it really means to be a misfit: it's not about being "quirky" or "unique", but instead the tension between personal values and preference versus societal values and norms. So, Megumin's a misfit even if she shares the same chuuni values as the village because explosion magic violates their norms. And Yunyun (bless her heart), is a misfit because she doesn't buy into the chuuni life at all.

          Also, it's super cute.

I wanna codify what small-medium/premium-large hat size ranges are. For a average size anime character I feel like middle of medium is 3x head diameter, large is in diameter no larger than 2/3 height of character, and small is less than 2xhead diameter. Any drawgays would be appreciated if you could have a blank/featureless character with various outlines of hats on it designating sizes.

Yes, but then they are already caught and put on the stake, restrained and defenceless. I mean if you were being put in a situation where you're gonna go out and hunt the witch or if the witch is hunting you, surely they have countermeasures for such things?

Semi related do you guys know the history of the Salem Witch trials?
It was basically a Grandma/Tradwife genocide orchestrated by teenage prostitutes and ~~*Politicians*~~ that has for a hundred years been used as a rallying cry against the exact sort of people it victimized.
They even killed the Town priest, who spoke out against them.

You look down the list of victims and it's all like "Granny Goodmuffin, Widowed mother of Twelve, known for donating money to the church and feeding local poor children cookies, accused of turning into a shadow demon and attacking the bawdtiest 15 year old in New England despite being 100 miles away at the time visiting her family. Her large estate and goods were claimed by the court to offset court expenses."

They never killed a single witch. All the dead were people who maintained their innocence. The courts took the accuseds possessions.
The English caught on to this and eventually hanged their witch hunters.

              Anonymous

              First, the victims
Bridget Bishop- 60 year old Grandma who owned a tavern.
Sarah Good- A previously wealthy poor woman, married with a child and pregnant
Rebecca Nurse- 70 year old mother of nine and pillar of the community
Elizabeth Howe- 50 year old mother of six
Susana Martin- 70 year old mother of eight
Sarah Wildes- 65 year old mother of two, step mother of eight
George Burroughs- 42 year old pastor known for his athleticism
George Jacobs Sr.- 83 year old Grandfather
John Proctor Jr.- 59 year old father of 18, wealthy farmer
John Willard- Town Constable that expressed doubts about the accusations, married.
Martha Corey- 72 year old grandmother, known widely for piety and charity
Mary Eastey- 58 year old mother of eleven
Mary Parker- 55 year old mother of one
Alice Parker- Wife of a local fisherman
Ann Pudeator- 70 year old town nurse and mother of five
Wilmot Redd- Grandmother and wife of local fisherman
Margaret Scott- 77 year old mother of seven
Samuel Wardwell- 50 year old father of three
Giles Corey- 81 year old father of five
Ann Foster- 75 year old mother of five
Sarah Osborne- 49 year old mother of two
Roger Toothaker- A 57 year old doctor

Many were beaten, starved, or deprived of sleep before their court appearance, and some had already gone somewhat senile before hand and were given no representation in court.
We've been sold this idea our whole lives that there's some kind of anti-religious, feminist reading of the Salem Witch Trials but the fact is that it was a massacre of the pious and conservative for little more than the greed of the town officers. They killed the priest, they killed their own constable when he realized what was happening, they targeted women who's husbands were dead or far off on business, who's families weren't in town, and above all ideally those with lands and goods they desired.

              Anonymous

See, the courts decided that if you were found guilty of witchcraft in court, they could repossess all your possessions and lands, thus a widow or sailor's wife with no adult male children in town, was always an attractive target.

One old man, Giles Corey, knew the law well enough to know that the court couldn't repossess his goods if he refused to enter a plea, and so he more or less dared them to flout the restriction and risk further outside scrutiny, or leave his goods to his family. They tortured him to death by crushing him slowly under a pile of rocks, asking him regularly to enter a plea. He supposedly said nothing but "Add more weight" throughout the torture, until he finally died.

Now, where do the Thots come in? Most of the accusations came from teenage girls (or a slave woman they had accused but they and the court had then turned to their purposes) of poor reputation. They're sometimes portrayed as the Masterminds of everything, but it's pretty obvious that the town officials were colluding with them on the names, tell your sociopathic high school b***h to target Misses whoever goodburger, who she already hates or wants to frick the husband of or whatever, and then you scoop up the property.
The slave came into play because she was accused early but (presumably because killing her didn't make anyone any money) she was allowed to live so long as she would reveal her "co conspirators" which was whoever the frick the court told her the name of.

Oh they made big shows of everything, fake seizures, fantastic stories of lightning blasts and shadow demons, but everyone knew what was up. It was a State-enforced gang kidnapping, torturing, and killing anyone it liked, and people were just terrified of standing up to them.

                Anonymous

                More on the "accusers"
A gang of teenage girls, their ring leader was one of the oldest, Elizabeth Hubbard. Elizabeth had no parents, and was instead under the care of her Uncle, the court physician that examined the accused and saw all kinds of signs of witchery. Hubbard and her Uncle lived alone, by the way, and she was *never* referred to as his adoptive daughter or even relative after he took her in, but rather curiously, consistently as his "Maid".
Many of the "effects" of Witchcraft were pulled straight from the Doctor's past patients and medical texts, and Hubbard coached the other girls on how to act and what to say.

I should like to point out here that other doctors from around new England came to examine the "afflicted" and the accused, and none could find a single medical abnormality at work, including during full body examinations for any "witch's marks" that all witches were supposed to have, and the court physician supposedly saw.
One such physician, Roger Toothaker, was of dubious medical training but "known" as an "expert" on witches (which mostly consisted of him getting wasted at bars and insisting he'd killed a witch in the woods one time). Well liked and considered an "authority", he was an obstacle and had to be accused. For convoluted reasons he was to be sent away to Boston to stand trial, but before he could make a statement he succumbed to the tremendous injuries he had taken at the hands of his captors.

                Anonymous

Lets see, other accusers, there was Elizabeth Booth, one of the older girls who's father died when she was young, and who briefly had a step father who also died, and who had a very bad reputation since some unknown event when she was sixteen that was later written off as "witchcraft"

Mercy Lewis, a girl who's entire family had been massacred by Indians who was... generously taken in by one of the most powerful men in town who happened to have been muscled out of his rich family's major holdings by his brothers, was currently engaged in a blood feud with a large extended family that included many of the accused, and of course stood to gain by every guilty verdict.

Marry Warren, the oldest, a bipolar servant who had always used witchcraft or illness to get attention until threatened physically, at which point she'd magically recover.

And then there's a handful of little girls and the slave, who I mentioned.

NTA but I was just about to touch on the role of the Inquisition in relation to similar things going on in Europe. Namely how they sent Inquisitors to investigate witch hunts and find a rational explanation for what was going on, which they did way more often than not. Rather than the liberal view that the Inquisition was some proto-SS gathering up muzzies and israelites and torturing them to death or some other such nonsense (in the Spanish Inquisition's case, they were more like medieval ICE trying to get muslims and stay-behind agents of the Moors out of Spain), they actually saved a lot of people from illiterate mobs trying to lynch them.
And of course, following the Protestant Reformation, there was a large increase in witch hunt related killings in the breakaway nations.
I also want to touch on the trial of the Knights Templar, even though it precedes the Protestant Reformation by a few centuries, because that's also largely the result of King Philip IV and not Pope Clement V. The Pope tried to hold a legitimate trial for them, but Philip went behind the Pope's back and burned them at the stake without one. This was also a move of Philip's in attempting to supplant the Pope as the head of the Church somehow. Thankfully Philip got was he deserved, he died in a hunting accident and all his sons died young without producing male heirs of their own, so his entire male line died off and was supplanted by the House of Valois (whom I'm supposedly related to).

all the witch hunt mania pretty much exclusively happened in protestant countries because accused "witches" in catholic countries would get routinely handed over to ecclesiastical courts who would just shrug and immediately release them

Well there is the notable exception of France who did have quite a few notable hunts. But other than them, yeah, generally speaking Catholic witchhunts were an oddity.

The only reason the Salem scandal turned heads was because it occurred well after it was no longer fashionable in England. Had it occurred 30 years previous, no one would have made much of it.

Oh no, if anything it turned heads because it was in the colonies. In England proper the last state-sponsored witch hunt wouldn't happen until 1730, the practice wouldn't stop being state-sponsored until the Witchcraft Act of 1735, non-state-sponsored but still permited witchhunts would continue to happen until the ammendment in 1824, and even then this act would continue to be invoked to persecute practitioners of so-called witchcraft like mediums or fortune tellers (without killing them, just jail time or fines) until it was finally repealed in 1957, with the last time someone was condemned of witchcraft in UK being in 1944 and the last threat of punkshment coming from 1950.

Hilariously while USA was considerably more progressive than UK on these matters their other now-ex-colonies were somehow even worse. With bonus points going to South Africa, where the Witchcraft Supression Act is STILL IN PLACE TODAY.

For comparison, after the Zugarramurdi scandal Salazar (Picrel from

                https://i.imgur.com/q1DHg48.jpg

Reading this, Salazar, Picrel. Would go to Navarra and perform his own investigation, and after another bunch of months he concluded it had all been horseshit. Those condemned (or their families in the case of those who died) were given reparations, and the inquisition upped the requirements for burnings so hard that this is considered the end of the witchhunts in spain, because even some very obvious cases of satanism were condemned to ostracism instead of death. And in Spain this was THE BIGGEST scandal. I mean riots tier scandal. I mean international mockery tier scandal.

Meanwhile the French just didn't even give a shit and no further investigation was made of the Labort burnings.

So compare and contrast. The oh so terrible Spanish Inquisition burnt 6 people, who used violence to resist arrest, and self flagelated so hard and restructured itself so brutaly in response you'd think they'd have nailed Jesus to the fricking cross.

Meanwhile the witch hunters just kept burning people on the regular and didn't even mention maybe they fricked up until the Salem scandal started to turn heads.

) wound up getting promoted to the Supreme Inquisition thanks to his debunking of witchcraft theories. And after Zugarramurdi there was only 1 more case of a trialed witch in Spain, in 1611, (and it was a single woman, who had poisoned people, for which she was convicted, not witchcraft, poisoning.) after which the entire practice was put on hold until the Supreme Inquisition's act of the 29th of August 1614 would end the pause by banning the practice outright. As a reminder, this restructure came for how scandalous it was for SIX PEOPLE to be executed by a single hunt. Compare and contrast...

The state of the inquisition varied a lot. They certainly weren’t a force of rationality though.

Compared with their contemporaries they were the closest thing to a reasonable judiciary body at the time.

The Catholic Church actually banned persecution of witches for most of it's history, insisting they were fake both before and after a very brief period.
Even during the like, ten year period persecution of witches was permitted, all Rome said was "if it is discovered someone is using evil powers against their fellow men, the law may punish them as it sees fit.". The Catholic Church even banned the witch-hunters manual as heresy, but it remained extremely popular among officials and nobles, and spread like wildfire outside of Catholic lands as well.

Sorry but the problem has always been secular politicians and judges.

in my city five times more people where killed over religious/witchcraft in the year and a half that it took the Spanish to liberate them than in the about 500 years before and after.
And what is more we have better records of the trails in the 12th and 13th century than those held under protestant occupation.
that being said it also only took a year and a half to go from being borderline hippity hoppety to banning all civilian possession of firearms and forced manual labor.
The only thing the duke of Alba did wrong was not killing more of those involved in the spreading of protestantism and in leading it

Personally I think the most obvious case comparison to Salem would be Zugarramundi, in Spain. Both were scandals for their time and caused the rules to change in their respective countries, and both towns have miled the shit out of the witchcraft myth around their cases afterwards. And this serves as good comparison. More so thanks to the French fiasco going on at the same time as Zugarramundi.

So, precedents. Note that both Zugarramundi and the other case I'll mention, Labort, happened within the basque regions of their respective countries. Basque France for Labort, Navarra (in Spain) for Zugarramundi. This caused 2 very large issues.
1-The basques had a lot more legends of witches than either the French or Castillians, something that caused issues when the huntings started.
2-Neither Judge Pierre du Lancre (for France) nor the Inquisitorial Council of Logroño (For Spain) had basque speakers, so they had to use translators and guides who were often uneducated serfs, which caused a lot of issues.

So the year is 1609, and yet another witch craze happened. It started on the french side, (apparently due to the expulsions into that area of israelites and moors by Felipe III of Spain) so the procedure for them at the time was the king (Enrique IV) would send one of the judges (educated noblemen) to investigate and report directly to him. He sent Pierre du Lancre who got to Labort and made a comission. And any historian agrees his evidence was... Just plain wrong. Translation was a serious mistakes and most agree he just interpreted a ton of shit wrong due to it, but even besides that he didn't even keep names consistent during declarations, which is probably why during his first writing he asked the king to send an army to arrest 3000 people. Eventually he lowered that to 1500 after the king told him to pull the other one, and after interrogations his bloodlust was satiated after burning almost 200 people. This whole thing took a few weeks btw. (pt2 coming)

So on the meantime the Spaniards had an inquisition, so they followed procedure. The Tribunal de Logroño was designated by the Suprema, and they designated 2 inquisitorial comissioners to investigate and report to them. (Their names were striken from the record due to the scandal.) Sadly between the aforementioned cultural clash and the overall instability at the time the writings by these 2 were unreliable as frick. Still they established that the spanish side of the issue started when María de Ximildegui emigrated to Spain from french basque country and startes gossiping about other women, claiming to be a witch that had left the Akelarre but knew who was still a practicing witch. Combine this with the region already having a ton of myths about it and well that was like throwing a match at a gunpowder store, specially after the french started hanging people.

Still from the letters of the comissioners it was decided that a little over 100 cases had any relevance, besides the kids which were immediately striken from the record for, well, being kids. Of these after months of doubts the tribunal accepted 40 arrests, of them 5 were already dead by the time the inquisitors went to grab them, 18 were punished with penitence for "reconciliation" (and only 2 of those lashing, the rest just prayer) The 6 that "resisted violently" were burnt, and the rest were declared innocent.

Ok, not that bad you might say. See here's the issue. By Spanish standards this is THE harshest witch hunt, period. So much that when Logroño told the Supreme it had approved this, they sent a letter ordering an immediate pause. Issue is, the letter came too late, and by the time Logroño told the comissioners to stop, they had already burnt the people so... woops.

In response to the mess one of the inquisitors from the Logroño Tribunal, Salazar, ordered the humanist Pedro de Valencia to make a report. Pt 3 coming.

The only reason the Salem scandal turned heads was because it occurred well after it was no longer fashionable in England. Had it occurred 30 years previous, no one would have made much of it.

You illiterate morons really can't catch a break. For example, the Polish Inquisition, in its entire history, sentenced a total of 7 people to death. And I'm not even sure those weren't legitimate death sentences for actual crimes.
In Medieval Europe, if you committed a crime, you would beg whatever higher power you believed in to be tried by the Church, since inquisitorial courts were the ONLY ones in Europe at the time that explicitly banned procuring testimony and confessions of guilt through torture.

Man, with this in mind Salem's celebration of the idea/image of the "witch", and Wicca in general really, is in incredibly poor taste, and not a little bit infuriating.

Visit your college library and go the Occult section. A significant part of that row of books are usually dedicated to the Salem witch trials.

Any benefit I see with this design also applies to under-barrel grenades, except incendiary under-barrel grenades seem like they would be better in literally every way. Still interesting that this device existed nonetheless. If it wasn't for aluminum barrels then I wonder if something like the china lake would be able to fire incendiary rounds out like this.
