I want to join police academy but I had a bad past life. (Drugs, involuntary mental detention, and people who don't like my past behavior)

I never been to jail or prison, but I don't think my chances are high for acceptance. I'm going to be completely honest about my history when I do the interview.

Any advice?

Is all that on record? Just try your best. If it's not meant to be, then don't be so hard on yourself.

Only thing on record is the involuntary mental detention (6 years ago) and a speeding ticket (last year)

Everything else is just stuff I don't think I'd be able to lie about to the background investigator. I'm a bad liar and I've seen enough investigator videos on YouTube to know they easily find out if I lie. Also, I don't think I can trick a polygraph test nor would feel good about getting caught in a lie.

          Yeah, don't bother.
You'd be lucky if you can be a mall cop with your drug use and mental asylum check-in.

This is what I'm expecting but I'm going to try my best.

Was it really involuntary? There’s a much narrower legal definition for what that means. If you were having some schizo or suicidal episode and the cops get called and you agreed to go to the looney bin that’s still voluntary

No, it was involuntary. There's a legal code for involuntary detention where I live at and it fell under that category. I had to get a doctor to sign my release and she showed/told me my legal rights. Also, I didn't go in for suicide nor did they hold me for the full extent. It lasted less than 18 hours.

Be 100% honest, reaffirm that all the things you mentioned have been exercised from your life, and stress that you believe in what law enforcement does and want to be a part of helping others who were i. Your position get back on track.
I don't know how it is in other countries, but in America at least so many police departments are hard up for fresh meat and might just let you try if you sell them your absolute faith in the system.

      >Law enforcement
      >Helping others

Law enforcement enforces the law, if it helps someone during the enforcement of the law, that's a bonus, but that was not the goal. They're modern day castle guards. Tax collectors and petty enforcers

This is not true. I've meet a lot of cops who should've given me a ticket or worse and just wanted to help me out. I got away with somethings not because of manipulation but because some good officers out there are actually trying to make the world a better place. I want to be that type of police officer.

arrest records are a thing, dumbass, you don't have to be convicted for them to still see you fricked up

when you're in front of the oral board its basically a test to see if you're capable of putting out the right bullshit. but, tbh, i don't think op would get to the oral board stage once they run him and see he was 5150'd

Police has no idea about your mental history and if you were never convicted for the drug things you are also off the hook.

Don't bring stuff up that the interviewer doesn't bring up by himself.
Work for your future anon, honesty isn't always rewarded. Once you're in the program you can start a new life and show that you're serious but don't let teenage mistakes bar you.

who in their right mind would ever give a weapon or entrust law enforcement to someone who has had an "involuntary mental detention"?
even for your own sake, its probably better if you stay away from a loaded gun.

If you want to help people be an EMT or a firefighter. If you go into policing (this assumes you're hired in the first place) your job will to be enforce the law

Maybe everything you said is true, maybe it's not.

Regardless, I'm going to do my best and if I fail, I'm going to continue to live the best life I can. That's probably more than you could do.

The only people who want to be cops are kids who were bullied in high school or actual fricking morons. Good to know which category you fall into. Do the world a favor and stay behind a mcdonalds grill until you die, homosexual.

      I'm actually a wildland firefighter.

Not op here. I wonder where all your hate comes from anon.
      I hope you're healthy. What's bothering you?
Op is a moron but he seems like a nice guy. So he would fit in the force quite well.

I'm not moronic, just made mistakes, like all of us here. But thanks for the vote of confidence.
