I want a semi-automatic .308 rifle. What is the best .308 semi-automatic rifle I can buy right now or in the near future? Is it the SCAR, LMT, something else?

muh dick
post your dick hole to prove the caliber
KAC SR-25
Depends on what "best" is OP, in terms of repeatable accuracy your 2 options are AR-10 and SCAR
M1a is nice as a midrange option if you aren't looking for a tac driver, accuracy may vary widely depending on type, model, ammo, how you spoke to it yesterday, also heavy
FAL if it appeases you and LARP purposes basically an m1a in a different skin
Ar-10 is the best in accuracy, general price range, modularity, aftermarket support, but alas bigger ar look alike
SCAR17 can be had for around 3k. very accurate out to 800m on the low end, lightweight, nifty tacticool features, cons kills shitty/good/ and expensive optics suppressors apparently void warranties and time dealing with FN customer service you could have killed yourself already
Keltec RFB bullpup 308 neat
for semi auto 308 platform options are surprisingly limited
>tldr if you want overall good quality/price go with ar-10; if you wanna larp as a marine in the 1970's while hunting an m1a is fine/ FAL is also larping just Rhodesia version; SCAR if you want to flex on poors and cry internally when the big black reciprocation block eats your optic that claims "scar ready" just a hint it ain't
might be some more obscure platforms im missing
>in reality just sneak onto any basic training base jackson, sill, benning sneak into the navigation training area hide in the bushes and find the small guy(drill sergeants always punish the smallest soldiers with the heaviest weapons) carrying the m240b knock out steal it and now you have a full auto amazing 308 have fun
I'll throw out the mdrx as an oddball but satisfying choice. Mine in 308 is one I enjoy it a lot. If you do go that route get the 20" barrel, not 16". You're saving a lot of OAL anyway, cutting performance for another 4" isn't really worth it IMO even with a can. Plus if you decide to get the fancy mantis the 20" version is much better. 2x mlok far more useful then one, leg length reflects guard length so the extra 4" there plus more for extension is a real bonus too.
I had completely forgotten about MDR. How does the trigger compare to a conventional rifle?
With the MDRX the trigger is genuinely quite good, from the factory no aftermarket. Not the absolute best but it's not military squishy or anything either, it's legit decent, decent period not "decent for a bullpup". Original one needed a few hundred rounds of break-in, now it's just good right off.
It's a pricey bastard though, undeniably on the heavy side, and they've had QC issues that they've only really started fixing this past spring. If you get a good one it's golden, and warranty is good and they honor it, but even so it's always annoying to have to actually use a warranty. So I'd kind of suggest waiting until next year and seeing if they do a gen3 unless there was a killer deal, even though I love mine, love it for hunting as well as fun, and with a few thousand rounds I feel confident in its reliability. It can do sub-moa with the right ammo and barrel. But there is a lot to be said for more standard platforms too, even if MDRX now does have some after market it's no AR. And muscle memory will be all whacked if you're used to ARs.
Do they actually have any way of knowing if you used a suppressor?
FN makes you take a polygraph to warranty a scar
>FAL if it appeases you and LARP purposes basically an m1a in a different skin
You are so incredibly stupid that your posts are physically painful to read.
lmt, scar, kac, etc
or just build your own ar-10 from good parts, it'll likely outclass you anyway
I have a scar 17 and I like it a lot, but everything related to it is expensive, and FN just raised prices on OEM parts so basic shit is now like 3x the prices, which is really fricking cool
I still like it, and it's pretty light with optics, but if I was going to get something worth the money, and out shoot me, I'd just build an ar-10, get a nice barrel, whatever furniture and it'll out shoot me out of the box
m&p10 i guess
will KAC even be reasonably available in the future? I cant even imagine what their backlog must look like.
>one of the few truly monolithic rail uppers
>still uses cantilever mount
Literally why.
The vast majority of one piece mounts are cantilevered. A lot of the non-cantis, especially the older ones, were also much lower for use on bolt guns.
I'm phoneposting so it's hard to tell for sure but it looks like a NF mount so the guy probably ordered them together off the website.
Anon it's monolithic. You can use scope rings of any height or a more solid 1 piece like Spuhr or ARC Mbrace. The idiot in OP pic isn't even using the right size rings, he has plastic spacers in there because he's a tacticool moron who sorted by price and accidentally the most expensive Badger 34mm mount without knowing what or why.
Kek. I bought my first gun in 2009, and since then most of the online gun community seems to have have gone from sorting by least to most expensive and buying the cheapest shit you could find, to now doing the exact opposite.
I know it's monolithic, I own one.
My point is that most mounts on the market are already cantilevered and in the grand scheme it really doesn't matter other than that a good quality one piece mount is generally superior to a set of rings.
People are cheap and weird. They'll drop $2-3k on a rifle and put a $600 vortex in a $99 aero mount.
You could always take the poorgay route like did and get a DPMS AR10 and dress it up a little.
is it that bad though?
Not him but if budget is a concern you should build one overtime and get a good barrel
It's not bad. I don't have much trigger time with it because I mostly shoot my Remington 700 instead, but it scratched my semi-auto .308 itch that I had. Perhaps it could do the same for you.
749.99 psa ar10

I want to suppress an rfb
Scar or H&K. They're both excellent.
>LMT 308
Good luck finding one that won’t be marked up on 2nd hand market
>SCAR17
Can actually find in stock, but be prepared to spend extra money if you want to mount optic without it being eaten up and suppressor choice and a gas jet for it without voiding warranty
Not him but good points on LMT 308 and SCAR17.
As far as optics go, Ive tried to find evidence destroyed optics but couldn't find much. As we all know, MI makes a special mount and elcan is apparently certified or whatever. I have heard most optics companies have beefed up durability over the years and its not much of an issue anymore. I think Lucas said he had like 10k+ (?) rounds on his scar with different optics and mounts and they all worked fine.
That said, I'd definitely do my homework before mounting anything and probably not use a cantilever mount.
The SCAR for whatever reason (squid and /arg/stagram) has a pretty big hatedom here. The destroying optics issue is WAAAYYY overstated. Optics will be fine if they've been made in the last decade unless they're NCstar garbage.
> Buying FN
Shame they void your warranty entirely if you put a suppressor on it
this is not cool at all but curious if anyone has ever heard of problems using a suppressor
Build one and put a nightforce atacr 4-20 on it.
The only M1A I would feel comfortable relying on? Would be one worked over and broken in by someone who is autistic with the platform. I've shot a national match rifle, built and tuned by a high level shooter. It is a literal tac driver within 500 yards, in almost any shooter's hands.
But for most people, looking at essentially a turn key option? The AR-10 options are the best bang for the buck. SCARs have always seemed like the gun you get for shit that an AR-10 doesn't like to do easily. Folding stock, SBR, suppressor useage, shit like swimming with the damn thing for some reason, ect. But then FN says using a can voids the warranty.
Look hard at the -10 offerings in your budget. Look if building your own will get you more of what you want; or if you will need a gunsmith because of some esoteric parts you decided on.
About to build my first ar10 was going to use CMMG lower and upper.
Any better suggestions?
Threads like this show me how shit this board is in terms of recommending rifles.
Get the HK mr762. It’s the most accurate, combat proven system that works excellent with suppressors, doesn’t eat optics and is generally considered to be the best performing 308.
Downsides are the magazine compatibility and the proprietary parts(that goes for any 308).
Don't the MR556 and MR762 use a completely different barrel from any of the battle proven designs?
Doesn't the IAR use the heavy barrel also?
KAC, HK, DD, and LMT 308s are sold out everywhere it seems.
JP LRI-20
The one in your pic. Already has been adopted by several militaries, it's not for nothing.
