are any of the .308 bullpups any good? next rifle I'm looking at ~6 years down the line is a decent ar-10 to replace my bolty but all that extra compact barrel length bullpups give seems real nice especially hunting in dense wood only problem is price and they seem so lack a good bit of soul but also probably eaiser to pick one than the dozens of ar-10s out there

I like the Kel-Tec RFB and would recommend it over the Tavor 7. The RFB beats it in barrel length, 18" vs 16" in a package that's only half an inch longer; has a lighter stock trigger, ~5lbs vs ~8lbs for the Tavor; and can be bought for hundreds less, usually $1500-1800 vs $2000+ for the Tavor. Mechanically the RFB is more or less a bullpup FAL including using metric FAL magazines. I find it to be surprisingly ergonomic and fun to shoot.

          Anonymous

The problem with the RFB is that unlike the RDB you have about a 75% of getting an unreliable piece of shit. At least all the people I've seen that had an RFB said it gave them problems not even 100 rounds in but maybe they could have made changes very recently to resolve them but I would still wait before picking one up.

My RDB came out of the box with a chipped firing pin, pretty sure my KSG also because I get light primer strikes atleast once every time I bring it to the range. No Keltec is worth betting your life on, they're range toys

.308 bolt face on a 5.56 bolt head… pOF says they use a new alloy for the bolt to prevent lugs from breaking (a known issue even on 7.62x39 bolt face on a 5.56 bolt head). So whole .308 is a lower pressure round than 5.56, it still has just over 50% more bolt thrust due to the cartridge’s geometry.

Basically they need 50% more strength with much much less material to achieve that added strength. I’d wait a couple of years to see what happens when round counts start getting higher. Pic related show just how much less material supports the bolt lugs to accommodate the .308 case.

It's already *been* a couple of years—the Rogue debuted at SHOT 2020. Considering the implicit target audience of an AR-10 that weighs less than most AR-15s, I think we'd have heard about it by now if they had durability problems.

Of those, the AR10, but you'll still have the weakness of an AR and won't be able to shoot steel. Specifically you can't rifle butt with it or mortar a jam, you'll bend the buffer tube and render your rifle useless, you can never bend it back true again especially with the BCG stuck in it preventing you from separating the upper and lower. AR extractors are tiny and weak, designed to shoot brass only. Some won't cycle steel at all, some will but you're causing excessive wear on the extractor which will lead to an early parts failure. If it's a rifle you plan on possibly using defensively, you NEVER shoot steel through it because you could end up getting that extractor snap in the middle of a firefight.

Tavor is just a piece of shit, plenty of reviews. Too inaccurate to get in .308, you're spending more money per round and wasting it because you can't even shoot it accurately. Reliability issues up the ass as well. "But they fixed it!" No they didn't.

Consider the FAL and G3 as well. The G3 has the edge over the FAL despite what Rhodieboos say. First of all, if you were in SA or Rhodesia you wanted to be issued a G3, that was the favorite rifle of the conflict. You still see G3s all around Africa and some nations (Mexico and Iran off the top of my head) still field it as their main rifle. The FAL has been phased out and you see less and less of them still around in 3rd world countries, it's all AKs and G3s. The G3 has a significant edge in accuracy, it's still fielded as a DMR whereas fielding an FAL as a DMR is laughable, tolerances just aren't tight enough to get good accuracy. We also have nice new production G3s (PTR91) whereas all sources of FALs dried up 20 years ago. You're buying a repro that's not built off any original tooling, or something out of a boomer's "I know what I got" collection for a price so high he'll be able to fund an entire cruise with it. The G3 is going to be the most reliable semi-auto .308 you can get. The AR10 is going to be the most accurate. Also consider the MDRX, it's expensive but feature-rich.

There's a break in period. Shit will flip rounds around and feed them back into the chamber until about 100-300 rounds in. Luckily mine started working smoothly around 100 rounds, but I put gloves on and ran the shit out of the charging handle to simulate cycling. The charging handle is also a bitch until you break in its locking mech. At least they're making them with tight tolerances, but yes you will have serious issues until it's broken in. Not sure why PTR doesn't put a big ass note in the box that says "your shit ain't gonna work right for the first few hundred rounds." I was pissed and thought mine was broken until I found out about the break in.

      Holy fucking shit, post guns.
      >can't mortar the rifle, you'll bend the buffer tube
yes, this can happen, but it's EXTREMELY rare. I'd wager at least 95% of all AR platform malfunctions are solved without mortaring, and even then it's still not likely that you'll bend the buffer tube. For all the changes and improvements made to the design over the past 50 years, this hasn't been enough of a problem to necessitate a change. AKA it's a nonfactor.
      >AR extractors weak, your steel case is gonna heckin wear it out
they're not. they shoot steel fine. Perhaps if you have some gucci proprietary dumbass bcg, maybe? But anything made by toolcraft and microbest(there's 99% of all BCGs) work fine. Besides, most gun owners will never wear out any single part on their AR.

Where the fuck are you getting these ideas?

Listen gay, I own AR's and I own a Tavor, the Tavor is infinitely easier to reload quickly than a standard AR. Their trigger is fine, and all these countries are moving away from them because they either shut down the factories so its easier to just buy whatever the US uses or they need rail space for their line infantry. Their special and mechanized units still use them because its easier to get in and out of vehicles with.

            >And every country that issued an FAL or a G3 moved away from it as soon as they figured out what an assault rifle was.
That's not true though, at least for the G3 since it's still in service in quite a lot of countries and was in service in quite a lot of countries long after assault rifles became popular.
            How new are you?

            >it's still in service in quite a lot of countries and was in service in quite a lot of countries long after assault rifles became popular

The only white countries that stopped using it are Denmark and Portugal.
The qualifications of the latter are debatable.

                They literally don't.
Their countries are completely reliant on the war machine to come and save them if China decides to boogaloo.

That’s because China has a military twice the size of both of them combined, retard. It also doesn’t help that Japan is a literal island that’s resource dependent on the rest of the world.

You're literally this fucking retarded. The mere fact that you can breath and type at the same time is a massive achievement for you.
The US is the biggest swinging dick with the best weapons on the planet. Civilians in the US literally have access to better equipment than Japanese and Korea soldiers.
Literally shut the fuck up, take a shower, and walk outside.

have a nice day with your clearly defective brainstem, if not for your own sake then for the sake of your parents dignity. It’s a numbers game, idiot. Slight differences in the performance of service rifles means jack shit, and yet you still shit yourself over the very idea of the M4 not being the pinnacle of cool.

I’m surprised none of your English teachers throttled you by the neck and killed you for how awful your reading comprehension is. We’re talking about small arms, dipshit. SERVICE RIFLES. You’re not going to be sinking ships with your grandad’s SP1, despite what his fake war stories would lead you to believe. This isn’t fucking MW2.

the irony of you complaining about reading comprehension.
you have not had a single good argument this entire time and your insults are girl scout on her period tier weak.
Japan and Korea have shit service rifles. China has shit service rifles. The US service arms are better. It's fucking moot anyways because China can't get their ass on Taiwan, much less Japan.
The numbers game doesn't fucking matter.
Now you apologize to your mother for being a failure because we both know your dad isn't coming back with milk.

And yet you still fail to understand. It’s as if the pinnacle of your education was staring into a bowl of alphabet soup. Our small arms make NO DIFFERENCE in helping this hypothetical invasion, as if an M16 can level a city block.

Plus, your dumbass brought up the Chinese invasion scenario. I interpet that shit about them barely being able to keep Taiwan as a retraction, and expect a formal written apology for anyone forced to educate you, with your entrails splattered on the paper as your signature.

You are absolutely correct though. I will throw out there the B&T APC308 and IWI Galil Ace in .308 as other viable options. The G3 and FAL should be ignored as anything more than collectors pieces.

Bullpups are more space efficient than grandpa guns. You know there was a fudd movement back in the day against pistol grips? That's what you sound like now, you're refusing an obvious advancement in rifle technology because you don't want your gun to be smaller... why is that? Do all your guns have to be big and black?
