That would be due to artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela who served in Finnish White Army GHQ in year 1918. Gallen-Kallela apparently liked the symbol and had used it already already in his works.
So both of these reasons predate Kraut nazi-party.

The one in Ateneum (Finnish National Gallery) is pic attached version from year 1891 with verses of Kalevala (Finnish national ethos for which the triptych's subject is based) in its frame. The year 1899 version with swastikas is in Bank of Finland.

That being said after seeing Russia's performance I'm certain anyone bordering Russia sans the Baltic and Caucasian states (too small, there's a big difference between Ukraine delaying Russia long enough for artillery and AA and Estonia doing the same) could at least stalemate Russia if they got lend lease and Baltics would obviously win if NATO got involved.
