I remember this site being kinda cool years ago, but holy shit it sucks now. is there anything else out there like this, but you know, not garbage?

Very loosely speaking, hackaday, but if anything I'd say youtube replaced both.
I have looked at every single entry on hackaday (took several years), looking for something I might want to try.
I found their sight to have a large amount of bullshit. people who do things that could be done with very simple electronic circuits, instead being done with overly complicated setups including arduinos, raspberry pi's etc. or doing things that are more novelty or "look what I can do" than actually useful.
At least they finally got over their obsession with finding things to create articles about 'girl power' for stupid shit like the first woman to understand the color code on resistors. For a while there, it seemed to be every third or fourth article.
>could be done with very simple electronic circuits
Those days are gone man, unless you wanna do it just for nostalgia.
>be me
>need a simple logic circuit
>2 dual input NANDs and 2 inverters
>$12 with shipping for a tube of cd4091s
>need only one
>$18 for a 10 pack of arduino nano clones
It just makes sense to keep versatile cheapduinos around than to buy tubes of discrete components you need once in a blue moon
>inb4 back in my day local electronic store single components for a few cents
It's gone anon, let it go.
Get an RSS reader that supports filters, and add shit like "women" and "girl" for sites like that
I came here to say it's just youtubers raised the bar so high that we don't get impressed.
Man I used to hang out on hackaday a few times a week.
I used to follow hackaday pretty closely, until it seemingly turned into pride-flag-keyboard-a-day.
I haven't checked back to see if the quality ever went back up.
>turned into pride-flag-keyboard-a-day
WUT! are you talking about?
not that anon, but I used to read hackaday almost every day years ago. Then it started getting peppered with globohomo ragebait (often, but not exclusively, from Brian Benchoff)
I stopped reading it too; haven't checked in for quite a few years. There's a difference between having an occasional article with a small scattering of globohomo references and the LGBT nogfest that the site turned into.
PrepHole is the best diy board where you can say moron. That is why people stay here.
Not even that, we can just tell people shit like, you're a fucking idiot, your ideas are retatded, and I'm going to laugh when the shipping container caves in and fucking kill you. And we don't get banned for being fucking honest and hurting feelings. Most places on the net moderate too heavily on hurt feelings. Mods here don't give a shit until you cross some particular lines
it used to be good til the site was used BY AN IDIOT who decided the site would be a good place to place the "PROOF OF HACKING, ATTEMPTS BY FORMER EMPLOYEE TO KILL DIABETICS WITH INSULIN PUMPS" info dump
aka the reason Insulin Pumps cost even more now, and they auto try to block the fact the new ones can be easily hacked too
the site WAS good for idea's for hacking/fixing/repurposing things for fun/profit
then the medical industry via a shell group bought it, stripped the site, and it devolved into the trash it now is
also the reason sites like the waybackmachine are constantly getting sued, because they like to destroy past evidence of crimes and security breakdowns of devices
> PrepHole is the best diy board
Sad, but true.
Even youtube is becoming instructables quality, and I consider their web interface about the worst one now. It’s glacial, have to click things 8 times, it crashes and re-loads all the time, comments don’t always work… etc. And the team that developed the “shorts” interface… that thing is just hilariously bad. Everybody else, ebay, amazon, etc seem to be able to do this, web UIs are beyond googles capabilities now.
>it crashes and re-loads all the time
WUT?
Good luck now that dislikes are disabled, and god help you if they've turned off comments too.
>And the team that developed the “shorts” interface… that thing is just hilariously bad.
oof yes and it keeps getting worse. However they are even able to do that.
>and god help you if they've turned off comments too.
Most media and news outlets in my country already do that. It's too much effort for them to delete all the shit which could hurt someones feelings.
If someone would combine blog/forum style build logs, shitbox style random threads like PrepHole , patreon or kickstarter with youtube and instagram media presentation and distributing ad revenue fairly between creators (and only craft and science (like ben krasnow not that popsci garbage) content not all the bullshit content just for the purpose of content youtube and insta have these days) without censorship i might even consider paying for that.
I think machinists on youtube haven't even peaked yet but a lot of other stuff already entered a downward spiral.
I’ve made a bokabob still, a suitcase drumset, spray paint from soda bottles, and an invisible bookshelf. It might be filled with single moms blogspots now but there’s still a generous wealth of information.
Anyone care to share some of their favorite instructables?

Does anyone remember the endless clickbait ads that you could keep clicking for hours

Fuck this gay ass internet and the gays who fucked it up
learn how to use a search engine.
google "shit for inspiration -site:pinterest.com"
Good try, but you'll find that most search engines these days are removing search operators. I can't even get them to listen to quotation marks sometimes. The reasoning is that most people are idiots who don't really know what they're looking for, so google now assumes everyone is an idiot who doesn't know what they're looking for, and that makes search operators superfluous.
Wanting general shit was always retarded. There are plenty of specific resources for people who can internet.
Google is an advertising company, not in the business of anything else.
