I recently fixed my parents' sink. it was my first time with plumbung and I think i pulled it off, but my dad ordered the parts, so I was wondering - are supply lines for sinks universal?

Now that you mention it, every sink supply line I've ever replaced has had a 3/8 inch fitting on one end, and a 1/2 inch on the other. The variation has been only in length and hose style.
If the pieces fit together, the sink works properly and there's no water leaking. . .
Sounds like a job well done
interesting. so do I just know how to fix leaky sinks now?
What was the source of the leak?
Sounds like you had to do more than just swap out a supply line.
I replaced the faucet and the copper supply lines, the leak was definitely in the faucet
yea they're standardized. it should always be that.. sometimes it's 1/2 to 1/2 and sometimes 3/8 to 3/8 but pretty rare
For context-
My dad is an HVAC engineer, very handy but he's drunk as shit most of the time (which is why I'm fixing the sink) so I'd love to know how he knew to order the right parts
>buys a 1/2 female connector for a 1/2 male connector
>what is this boomer magic knowledge?
Pretty much universal. Supply shut-off should be 18" from the ground.
Nowadays you see less copper installs and more of that braided shit. What kind of man doesn’t have a flanger?
No, there's different types of end fittings and they come in more than one size, usually 3/8" or 1/2".
There's lines available with every possible combination of ends and sizes, plus adapters that let you convert valve and fixture ends so you can use hoses with less oddball combinations.
Yes braided supply lines for sinks are all the same size, just different lengths. Just make sure you get one for a sink and not a toilet.
If you somehow fuck that up, (it happens) you can return it and get the right one.
