I noticed on the SCALP/stormshadow the body of the missile is a couple of pieces of aluminum sheeting fastened together while the JASSM has a unibody made entirely out of carbon fiber. Does this effect the RCS in a meaningful way?

    yes

    no.
good quality slide thread IMO. what Russian thing blew up this time?

Ukraine managed to infiltrate a Russian frigate in Kaliningrad and film themselves lighting a fire

Yes being a one piece CF design will reduce its RCS

probably, the impedance of most carbon fiber composites is probably less than that of aluminum so it will reflect radar waves less starkly.

There's so much going on in that statement that's wrong.

This whole thread is nothing more than a semi-subtle Burger attempt to dab on European manufacturing capabilities.

Carbon fiber is what you want in a LO missile

What’s the implication here? Are you suggesting scalp is made of a one piece carbon fiber body?

Dunno but I think it will take the ukrainians to completely understand the assignment and create an $30k cruise missile that looks like a piece of shit and is assembled out out Aliexpress ordered parts but does like 80% of what the JASSM does

The best part about JASSM is the range in such a small package. I doubt Ukraine could produce an engine efficient enough to replicate it.

I don't think so, any meaningful contribution to RCS from the material will either be from paint or some kind of internal structure we're not aware of. The CF (if it even is that) is almost certainly for weight savings

How does it manage to have so much of a longer range than scalpshadow despite having nearly identical dimensions?

America has access to much better engineers than France does. Plus the French only work like 18 hours a month

      Newer engine and more fuel.

The jet engine in the JASSM has bypass ducts, meaning it has greater fuel efficiency but less speed.

Interesting. This is the first I’m hearing about the critical capabilities limitation due to the lack of bypass ducts on the stormshadow that has been plaguing the entire production run of stormshadows

          You seem upset.

How do they fit shit inside if the outside is one piece

It's not actually a single body design, the top half is a shell that comes off. OP's pic is a model to show to the public, it's not actually what JASSM looks like.

Lighter weight, better fuel economy. RCS is probably barely effected
