Where do I get coal or coke to fuel my forge? I'm in the south, nowhere near coal country.
You can always go for charcoal. It is, in many ways, superior anyway, aside from density of energy (They are roughly equivalent per weight, but charcoal is way lighter per given volume). Charcoal burns cleaner (aka, no clinker ever), has no possible impurities that lowers the quality of steel, like phosphorus or sulfur, and you can even make it yourself.
Coke is also a byproduct of oil refining and catalytic cracking. Try contacting one of the coastal refineries and asking what they do with theirs.
Tractor Supply sells 40lb bags of rice coal for $10.

Idiot. Never pay the full amount up front. Did you have a written contract or did he give you a receipt? Did you pay cash or check/card? If you don't have any paper and can't prove you gave him the money then you're pretty screwed.

Looks good OP. Next you should roll the edges and then planish the steel to smooth it out. Keep up the good work armour smithing is hard.
I wanted the hammered texture because it was a gift for a friend’s birthday…and also because I don’t know how to smooth it out
Made some armor for a Mad Max inspired cosplay a while back. If you are going to make a chest plate id suggest attaching it to a plate carrier.

my armourer hasnt contacted me in 2 months, after he made half of what i ordered and claimed he was about to finish, and whats worse is that i paid for everything in full even though it was unfinished and only 2 things were ready to be sent out
and ive asked for him to get back to me a few times to no avail
im at a loss as for what to do
also, id like to think that hes just fucking me over so i can just bomb his facebook group with bots or spam or some shit, and maybe try to get sympathy from other armorers who heard what happened or something, but he sent one of the packages a while ago and i had proof that it was real, but after waiting a month while it sat in some shipping facility i asked him to take it back so we could send it through a different service, and thats the last i heard from him, even though he keeps posting in his group and interacts with people
update: apparently facebook shadow banned me or something and i finally managed to get in contact with him
Never put more than half a deposit up front. Doesn't matter if you're paying a contractor or anyone else.
