I love shotguns so much it's unreal. Need to hit something big? Buckshot. Something small? Birdshot.

I love shotguns so much it's unreal.
Need to hit something big? Buckshot.
Something small? Birdshot.
Wish you had a rifle? Slugs of all kinds.
Need something on fire? Dragonsbreath.
Wanna frick up the guy behind a door? Breaching rounds.
Wanna frick up the guy behind a door, but you don't actually want to go inside? Ferret rounds.
Want to try to avoid killing the guy? Rubber pellets and beanbags.
Need to shoot a flare? You can do that too.
Want to put a bunch of tiny darts in something? Flechette.

You can stuff whatever you want in a shotgun shell and it'll probably work. No fancy sights needed, just a brass bead.

I agree OP, I don’t know why shotguns get shit on here by a few. Either they’ve never owned/used a good 12 gauge or they’re weaklings who can’t handle anything other than a .22 or gAyR

      Anonymous

Agreed. 12 gauge is the caliber of versatility

So what shotgun should I get.

Mossberg 500 is a good budget pump
Henry makes single shot break action ones that are just too cute
      Remington makes higher end pumps
I hear Beretta makes reliable semi autos but I've never owned one
My dream is to get a Winchester 1887 reproduction that can handle modern ammo

Get an older Remington 870. I own an older (80’s model me thinks) Remington 870 Wingmaster Magnum and the action is smooth as butter. I’ve blasted thousands of rounds through it squirrel hunting when I was a youngin’ and clay shooting. Never had a single issue, but you shouldn’t if you own any pump worth buying. Mossberg’s aren’t bad, older Winchesters, older savage/Stevens are all good too, there’s a lot of great options. I prefer pump actions and always in 12 gauge

      Benelli Supernova.
Smoooooth pump action with a magazine cutoff button, can chamber 3.5” magnum loads, and plenty of swappable barrel options.

I love AR’s but have always appreciated the shotgun and it’s my go-to HD gun. 1988 Express rebuilt to Police specs and a 2005 870P SBS. Need a Marine

Remington 870 but a Mossie 590 is good too.

Shotguns and 22lrs are two of the most actually useful guns ever made

      Based Dept. on line 1.

Soils advice. You can pickup a used 870P Police Magnum or upgrade another model, easy to replace spring and parts.

It's stowed away in a different room and everyone is asleep so I can't take a picture, but I have a Mossberg 500A that's nice if a bit cheap and my dad has a Browning over-under that desperately needs to see a gunsmith. The thing doesn't even open unless you break it over your knee
As in the other post though I'm dying for a Chiappa 1887

Nice. The 590a1 is pretty great as a tacticool gun but I’d like something with classic looks as well. Maybe a double barrel Beretta of some kind.

          Anonymous

To be frank I hate tacticool stuff. I'm unbothered about living in California because even pistol grips on shotguns rub me the wrong way
I like my guns all steel and wood, as smooth and simple as possible, but that's just me.
I'd love to shill out for a Browning Auto 5 at some point, an old 12 gauge one. It makes me sad that the new A5s are just inertia semi autos with a humpback for style.

I'm a britbong so shotguns are all I can get without jumping though the hoops to get a proper firearms license. So I've got a great variety of them, bolt action, martini levers, converted Lee Enfield, plus your usual pump, semi and O/U and SxS

Dont think I'm not bitter about it. I do my best to expose shooting to as many people as I can, I've hooked a few who have gone onto get their own firearms. And others I've at least given a positive opinion about it, but the general public and politicians have no interest in relaxing any laws around it, its only ever about increased restrictions. We got lucky that nothing happened after the Plymouth shootings, because the police fricked up big time and wanted it forgotten.

        How does that even work?

          Anonymous

A .303 and a .410 have the same case body size. All they have to do is bore the barrel out to .410 for it to work. It will still chamber and fire .303, and people maje .410 brass shots shells by firing .303 cartridges without a bullet inserted.
Indians usd them as prison guard weapons, and loads were converted in UK to use the surplus up after ww2 so farmers might buy them.

Do .410s still fit in a Lee Enfield magazine, or does it become single shot only?

Getting a firearm license isn't so bad, just join a club.

I've already got 2 decent bits of farmland I've got permission to shoot shotguns on. Plus I'm in the reserves so I can do more advanced shooting, with automatic weapons, and get paid to do it.
There is a decent range near me, but I just can't be bothered to go though the club application, put up with the Fudd uk gun community, pay their fees, go thought my Firearms licensing and pay those fees, all just to get access to either .22lr thats no fun to shoot, or some other caliber in a manual action that costs a fortune to shoot. And I can only shoot at targets at my club.
The only thing that's tempting me is getting one of those Westlake muzzle loading revolvers.
