I just drew my gun with the intent to kill.

I just drew my gun with the intent to kill. A pitbull came running toward me and I thought it might try to maul me, and I drew on it and at the same time it pounced backwards so I didn't shoot it. It tried walking sideways along me instead of running away so I started walking backwards. Once I got over a hill between me and it I started thinking that this pitbull is basically a scholar and an aspiring musician so I took off running before anybody called the police. How much shit am I in if they catch me?

I didn't want to shoot it even before it got close to me. But I didn't want to get mauled either. I was tall enough that I don't think it could have got my neck right away so I was waiting for the last second to shoot.

Or you can just get one good shot in and people will write it off thinking it's backfire from a car or something.

Slick Jimmy from TFBTV just uploaded a video on his personal channel about the legal implications of shooting dogs of peace. If you didn't even pull the trigger then nothing is gonna happen to you. Carry pepper spray in addition to a gun if you're worried about running into a loose dog again.

Shit advice, I’ve emptied entire cans of OC into a pit’s mouth and they were just as vicious and determined to kill as before if not more. OC only works on little barking rats.

Pain only makes shitbulls more frenzied and vicious due to their "gameness" trait. I don't know if spraying its eyes would have worked better, because I've actually heard different things when it comes to using pepper spray on dogs. Some people claim that it works better on dogs than on humans, while I've also heard a cop claim that some dogs can basically just sneeze it out and keep attacking like what you described.

You won't be in trouble. Pitbulls aren't people so drawing on one charging you is fine if you sincerely and reasonably believed it was going to attack you. If you didn't even fire a round it's unlikely police would even care. Were there security cameras or buildings around? If no people or cameras witnessed it absolutely nothing will happen to you.

Can they still get me on brandishing laws? It was on the road in a residential neighbourhood so people probably have Rings and home cameras. The pitbull came running toward me down the middle of the road. It wasn't that close to where I live, but a few blocks away.

Nobody's going to come after you for drawing on a loose and clearly aggressive dog unless you live somewhere exceptionally shitty. Even if you shot it's pretty much guaranteed you'd be fine.

If you were aiming at the dog and not waving your gun around in an irresponsible manner no. No shots were fired, no dog was shot. No law against pointing your weapon at it, its not like you can determine what a dogs intentions are. Even if some owner were to get mad, they cant do anything. They themselves were being irresponsible pet owners by letting it run loose.

Will preface this by saying I'm not a lawyer and don't know what state you're in:
In many jurisdictions brandishing a firearm is considered "physical force" equivalent to shoving, punching, or kicking. A charging dog is reasonable grounds to use physical force. Therefore, brandishing at a charging dog should be ok.
Actually firing your gun constitutes "deadly force" which is a higher level than just "physical force." You MUST believe you or someone else is in IMMINENT danger of DEATH or GREAT BODILY HARM to justify the use of lethal force. Examples of lethal force include firing a gun, stabbing/slashing with a knife, or clubbing someone in the head with a bat. In court, you will be held to a much higher standard for the use of lethal force than for deadly force. Massad Ayoob says "every cartridge has a lawyer attached to it."
You did not fire a round, the dog was a legitimate danger to you. You should be in the clear.

Jesus christ anon it's an ANIMAL not a person. If you just whipped out your gun and shot it none of that "deadly force" stuff even comes into play at worst it'd be some animal cruelty thing and civil penalty to the owner (obviously assuming you having a gun at all is legal, you weren't reckless etc). And even that is unlikely because pitbulls themselves are known to be deadly and shouldn't be running loose on public property anyway (if you're on someone's private property that's going to be different).

Firing rounds in a residential neighborhood would draw police interest no matter what it is you're shooting at.

Yes this. There are laws against discharging firearms in residential areas and within city limits. Even if you dont kill anything you can still be fined for property damage or some kind of unjustified endangerment Im sure.

I feel like you'd get in more trouble for causing a public disturbance with the sound of gunfire than you would for shooting a loose dog. I mean has anyone been brought to court over hitting a dog with their car? Seems like the lives of pets are completely fungible as far as the law is concerned

Thinking back on it. Why did this pitbull that had come running toward me back immediately off when I drew? I don't think it was smart enough to know I was holding a gun.

Dogs will only chase things that attempt to run away. If you were facing it with your arm stretched out holding a gun, then it probably perceived that as an aggressive stance. Animals don't pick fights they don't think they can win.

And another thing I'm wondering about.

What if the pitbull "only wanted to play"? I don't know if it was actually going to to maul me, or was curious.

Hard to say, but if it was making a beeline at you full speed then I wouldn't have taken any chances. I think you did the right thing. I don't trust other people's dogs as a rule. At least it was only one dog though. Dogs become so much worse when there is more than one involved. That's when their pack instinct takes over and they become more prone to bad behavior.

Well you did the right thing despite the fact that many people are attacked by pitbulls this one may have just wanted to be friendly. But you never know, you are 100% in the right for drawing your weapon in case and prudent for not firing right off the bat

After this, I'm never stepping out of the house without a weapon again. I shudder to think if I didn't have a weapon and that thing leaped on me. Why do all these pitbull owners make their animals other people's problem??

And occasionally some hippies thinking dogs have no breed characteristics and all that is needed is treating it like a little baby for it o be allowed to roam around without supervision.

You gotta be careful about the city though.
If someone decides to fuck you they can and will charge you with all the gay laws they may have in place to reduce gun possession amongst urbanites, including discharging a firearm in the city.
They don’t care about anything else.

Truth. Just like how you can have a concealed carry license but literally everywhere outside has signs forbidding you from having a firearm.

A pulled a gun on a mastiff that jumped through the guy's living room window to get to me. Only thing that prevented me from shooting was my winter glove not fitting in the trigger guard. By the time I got my glove off, the owner was trying to get it and my backdrop was a busy street. I called the cops in case the owner said an armed raving lunatic was in his yard. Cop seemed chill.

Dah fuck was the window open? I guess thats different because thats kind of a freak occurance that an ower wouldnt expect.

Luckily I havent lived anywhere where violent or feral dogs roam the streets. But I might be hesitant to fire at something that wasnt a shitbull because I like dogs. Im sure there are plenty of other breeds that can be assholes so Id prolly die.

Nope. Jumped through the glass. As soon as I heard that, I tried running. I knew that house had a big dog. The dog was stunned for a few seconds before it charged.

I did feel bad about almost killing it. I would still shoot it if it happened again.

Okay so was it actually a dog or are you using "pitbull" in place of nagger here?

I mean, the described actions of the pitbull are essentially the same as a future doctor. Its just more likely that OP would actually have to shoot the teen because its harder for them to take a hint.

No, it was a dog, literally, specifically an American pitbull terrier breed with grey and white fur. Like this image. It didn't look feral, and I wasn't paying attention to whether it had a collar or not. But it shouldn't be surprising that pitbull owners are letting their pitbulls run loose and be a danger to the communities that they live in.
