I have a big mirror I bought and a paintings I want to hang and I'm just now realizing how difficult it would be to get these on the wall. At the very least I would have to hire someone for the mirror, and now I think I'll have to hire someone to put up these paintings too. This is really stressful to me because I don't know how to do this myself, don't have the tools to do it, and it seems I'll have to pay a lot of money to just put up a few simple decorations in my home. How do people deal with this?

    >because I don't know how to do this myself, don't have the tools to do it, and it seems I'll have to pay a lot of money
It doesn't cost a lot of money to learn how to do a simple DIY task in 2023, what with youtube and endless amounts of information available.
So "money" isn't really a valid excuse for not knowing how to do a thing. Do some research.

The tools required for hanging a mirror aren't expensive, and ones you should probably consider owning yourself anyway.

Even if you go all out and buy a drill and a set of bits (which probably aren't actually needed to hang a mirror, but would be a common tool people would use to do it), those tools are going to EASILY pay for themselves in one or two projects if your knee-jerk reaction is to always hire somebody to do work every time you have a task that requires a drill.

Plus then you have the satisfaction of feeling somewhat self-sufficient rather than hiring someone for every task.

But the first step is to stop whining, then start watching youtube videos about hanging mirrors.
    You can do this.

I physically cannot hang the mirror myself, I could not even lift it to the proper height. It weighs 75 pounds. I accept that I have to get someone to do it for me. What bothers me more is the paintings. Looking at the price it just doesn't seem to be worth it for someone else to do it, but I don't want to do it myself and risk hitting wires or a pipe or messing up in some other way.

Okay, well I can't help you then.
Why come to PrepHole just to whine about not wanting to do things yourself?
        If you don't want to, don't. I don't give a shit.

Also most people have friends or family they can bug when they need to lift something heavy. Except for me because I’m a gigachad and lift it myself.

I tried to do research and I just couldn't find any option that made sense or was satisfying for the paintings. First off, I don't know what the walls are made of. I was also told that the picture hooks actually are at risk of puncturing pipes or wires. And I actually did consider 3M strips at first, but then I saw all the stories of them dropping off the wall or tearing paint off. There just doesn't seem to be any good solution.

        [...]
I was told those fail too. And then I'll use it and I could electrocute myself or puncture a pipe. I just don't know how people can do this stuff.

I've spent most of the day today doing research. I don't believe I can figure it out anymore. I don't know why I can't.

I don't have any friends or family.

I know, I really am pathetic. I've wasted my whole day being stressed about how I can't even do this. There's really no point in trying to improve my home. It won't improve my life or make me happy.

        >I think I'll have to hire someone to put up these paintings too.
You what? Bruh. Get some picture hangers. These are cheap as shit, and hanging painting off them is piss easy because you can just slide them on the wire. If they don't have picture wire, grab some of that and a few eye screws, put the eye screws about 1/3 of the way down the frame on each side, and add the picture wire. I've hung at galleries and this is how everyone does it.

        >I physically cannot hang the mirror myself, I could not even lift it to the proper height. It weighs 75 pounds
Get a buddy to help you. You can set up larger/more picture hangers ahead of time, and just mount it right on them, reducing the lift to just putting it on them. I've done this with a 50 lbs mirror.
        >risk hitting wires or a pipe or messing up in some other way.
You aren't likely to hit wires unless you're really trying to(most paintings are hung at eye level, you shouldn't have any problems) and the nails from picture hooks should stop noticeably before breaking a pipe(which you will almost certainly not hit unless you try). You're being needlessly paranoid. I say this having put shelves, paintings, and mirrors up all over the place.

By being an adult, making decisions, and following through with them.
So strap some fucking balls on and figure it out, you useless, faggy half-a-man.

If the mirror is very heavy it's probably worth having someone come put it up, but the paintings are easy.
Just go to the store and get picture hooks and a hammer, choose where you want the paintings and hammer the hook in and then hang the painting on it. It's simple and for a simple picture hook there is no worry about hitting anything hidden in the walls. The nails for them don't go that deep. Or if the pictures aren't that heavy you can get 3M hooks that stick to the wall with an adhesive (command strips I believe they're called) that come off easily when you want to take the pictures down. That's super easy. The package should tell you how much weight they can hold.

This is assuming you live in a country that uses drywall like the united states. If your walls are concrete, stone, or bricks, it's a bit more complicated.

Yeah, thanks for coddling the whiny retard. You fucking assholes are as bad as the idiots that shit the board up. But, hey, at least everyone knows how smart you are now.

    >Find the joist in the ceiling with a detector tool
    >Screw a hook into the joist in the ceiling
    >Use this to lift the mirror towards the ceiling
    >add another hook in the joist in the wall where I want the mirror to be
    >push the mirror over to the hook in the wall, un-hook from the ceiling
    >Remove the ceiling hook
    >a few bucks of filler to cover the ceiling hole
Entire thing achieved without external help. Or just bring in a friend and skip 80% of these tasks. Absolutely none of it involved hiring someone for anything.
    Fucking apply yourself, jesus christ.

"Bear claw screws" hold 25 lbs. You just twist them into the drywall with a screw driver. There's no need to find a stud.
Twist anchors are the same concept but they make a bigger hole. They go to about 50.
For very light items, like 1-5 lbs you can just tap a finish nail in diagonally. Or use a "gallery hook". It's the same thing.

Hanging a tv you generally have to find the wood studs behind the drywall. You're adding weight and mechanical advantage so tvs are the really the first item that starts ripping the normal drywall anchors out. Otherwise the anchors are happy to hold 50-100 lbs of simple gravity.

use something like this. you really don't even need a drill, you can just punch a hole in the drywall with a screwdriver. this is like minimal effort stuff.

using a drill is fun once you figure out how to use it. it started my power tool hoarding habit. as for carrying the weight, it's doable if the brackets could slide easily. but if you have to keep aligning the screws with the slots on the 70lb mirror; then your neighbor should help you out.

    What?

Get a drill, a stud finder, some chalk and some 3 inch construction screws. If something is heavy you need a stud. So use the finder and find the stud. Then mark the wall using chalk, where the center of the stud is.

Put a screw in there with a little bit hanging out of the wall then hang the item on the wall.
