I HATE ZOOMERS

>Go to range ive went to for the last 15 years
>Great place, nice and open and outdoors with little stands and wooden roof for rain cover
>Could always frick around and do whatever
>Shoot some cans, drinks, old laptops, pans whatever you would bring to the range
>ALL calibers allowed
>Even allowed to do some running drills if range was empty
>Worked out for the last 40 years or so since that place opened
>This time notice sign
>ONLY PAPER TARGETS
>ONLY PISTOL CALIBERS
>Ask whats up
>Turns out some moronic zoomers shot holes through the roof, safety lights, ruined the steel targets and managed to shoot towards the FRICKING ROAD thats over 90 degrees offset to the range.
Why do they ruin everything I love? It worked just fine with a little bit of common sense for close to half a century.

According to you picture though, zoomers are able to fire rifles without having their finger on the trigger. That is aNo of itself is impressive.

Of course they did but if those morons had even a bit of common sense it wouldn't have happened in the first place. How else did nothing get destroyed for so long? It just takes a little bit of thinking not to shoot steel plates with certain calibers and shooting security lights and the fricking roof is on another level of stupid.

this is what happens when we don't give people lessons on how to shoot guns. they clearly did not have any relatives or friends knowledgeable enough to help guide them.

I was somewhat that guy too but eventually you have to be a grown up and have the self discipline to learn how to do it yourself
My dad was a gun guy back in the day but he only taught me the basics when I was in my 20s.
I have sworn that when I become a father, no matter if I have 4 boys, 4 girls, more boys than girls or vice versa, I will teach them from a young age how to handle guns
They will be firing .357 magnum by the time they are 16

there are a lot of people who don't have those skills, especially nowadays. or if they do learn, it's the hard way, like the guys from op's story shooting the roof. one of my local ranges had various holes and damaged target hangers from newbies who didn't know what they were doing. it was the only one for a good 30 mile radius in that particular area. they shut down because someone bought out their land and now it's an hour to get to the next closest one for me.

Do you at least have public land nearby?
Here in Florida we're fricked big time since FWC is so wishy washy on allowing target shooting and the lack of OC makes it harder
Almost makes me want to write after november to any politician to write a bill to make it easier to shoot on public land in Florida

the public land is even farther away. closest is probably 3 hours, and it's closed most of the year because of fire danger. such is life in kalifornia.

I think your dad had the right idea. At a young age, the most you should be taught about guns is that you should fear them, stay away from them, and not frick with them, the way you don't let your kid frick around with power tools, electrical wires, or large knives. That fear will then become respect, restraint and responsibility when you do teach them how to wield firearms.

Well my plan is that once a child of mine is on the way, I will heavily invest in all sorts of safe storage methods for all the guns I own plus any future purchases.
However I will not apply the American method of "hide it and keep them ignorant about it" and instead have them be introduced to it and slowly get used to them, like what Euro families do with beer and wine
Obviously I wont have them shoot as early as two years old but I want them to be knowledgeable and respectful of firearms as early as possible.
              >tl;dr keeping them ignorant is a bad idea

I mean, I came from a totally nogunz family and I figured out not to do stupid shit pretty easy. I feel like "don't point the gun at anything you don't want to destroy" works in 90% of situations.

Blame the fricking boomers for being pussies in constant fear of litigation
Which is justified to some degree because you can sue someone on the drop of a hat
Just shoot in public land if you have the priviledge to do so

Zoomers grew up in a post internet era, and as a result there is no disconnect between the internet and reality in their minds, anything they do and see on the internet is fair game irl and vice versa; this directly contrasts boomers who spent most their lives without the existence of the internet and millennials who existed in that transitional phase where the internet was a thing but only nerdy weirdos spent any significant amount of time on it.

No,legit question what the frick is wrong with boomers. Why are they 40,50,60+ years old and still dont undersatand how the world works?
Like how the frick can you get blindsided by shit like this?
Now legit,"back in my day" when i was a teenager i got high on drugs and alchool and did some horrendeously moronic shit that would today land me an even longer sentence(if i wouldnt get shot by the badge Black folk first).

My main gripe with the younger generations is that they are no longer white in general and if they are they are very quiet and anti-social,thats it.If anything they are much tamer compared to even 20 years ago.
Fricking hell,i guess it really takes a "worst generation" to raise another one just as bad...

I'm sorry OP but why didn't they just restrict users or at least license them vs completely restricting the range for all? Why not just
    >"only those who pass basic competence"
    or
    >"those new can only use paper and pistol caliber but after a year you can graduate to whatever"
    ?
If it worked fine for 40 years seems like a real overreaction. If the problem is morons ban them, not the funz.

The reason they completely restricted it is because they broke so much. There was a whole light system to show when it's safe to move out and they shot out all the lights. They put multiple holes through all the steel plates too. They also put holes through the roof and tables(at least that was an easy fix with some tarp). It cost the owner a bunch of money to replace all of it.
