What do you guys do with saws, I can't imagine using it for anything.
For fires I am not going to be sawing anything, ill find sticks and dry wood, split larger pieces with a knife.
For shelters I have a tent or hammock, even if I didn't I wouldn't be using anything thick enough to require a saw, and using a saw would expend more energy regardless unless I'm trying to build a cabin, but that would be beyond the capabilities of any camping related saws.

      victorinox army issue

Victorinox Huntsman. Has two blades, a saw, and awl, scissors, and the other main Victorinox tools. The corkscrew is super handy for untying knots.

Have you ever actually tried to use a SAK saw seriously? They're for small branches in a pinch, not for proper saw work. Get a folding saw and a good knife. You will be much better served.

        Anonymous

Yeah. I lived abroad for a stint and didn't want to invest in hand tools so brought along my Outrider. I was able to use it to disassemble and cobble together basic furniture for my apartment with it."In a pinch" is exactly what they are for. Why do you evaluate a 3.5 inch folding saw on a pocket knife for "proper saw work?"
        That doesn't make sense.

I have one and it's quite solid but I really wish I had one of the models where the blade is accessible from the outside.

I can’t use a wave because these are illegal in my country. Can’t carry anything with you that can be operated one handed. If caught they’ll take the knife and you’ll have to pay a fine I believe.

Victorinox Forester is pretty good, and their saws are probably the best I've used that were integrated with a knife. They're great for staves, if you need to saw something thick, consider a rope saw

I dont have the shoe anymore. The underside came lose at the side and i just couldnt punch through with my sewing needle. The spike didnt go through as easy as i thought it would, but saved the misery of a claffing shoe until i got home.

Why have serrations on the main blade when you have a saw right next to it? I feel like this would be a pain to field sharpen unless you specifically got files for it

Thats the point of serrations, they cut even if they are not that sharp.

I've never owned one of the large SAK's so I may just not get it, but why is the bottle opener lockable?

        Anonymous

Because why not? I really like mine. It's more beefier than one on the 91mm. Used it for prying open paint cans and as a scraper for scraping old glue from the PVC windows where the mosquito net was and it worked like a charm. I have the 08 soldiers knife.

Just seems a bit unnecessary to me. I enjoy the slipjoint mechanism on SAK's, and while i understand why people would want the blade to lock i don't see a purpose to make the bottle opener lock as well

Here's the SAK I gave my mom for mothers day. Came very quick for a custom knife, I made an order for 2 knives on bladehq the same day and they came about 2 or so days later than the SAK.
It was like 50-60 USD, which may be a decent bit for such a small knife, but with changing the scales and putting her name on it it isn't that bad

        >can't believe these little knifes are so expensive. I'm guessing it's like a high quality brand.
Yeah, they hold up a lot better than a lot of the knock off swiss style knives. I'd rather pay extra for something that'll last than something that the scales will fall off in a year.
You can grab a stock version of the one i got for like 30 USD plus tax and shipping on the site, and probably cheaper if you go 3rd party
