I'd prefer it if it was a friction folder, or slipjoint

this. get a silky f180 and a small knife
What do you guys do with saws, I can't imagine using it for anything.
For fires I am not going to be sawing anything, ill find sticks and dry wood, split larger pieces with a knife.
For shelters I have a tent or hammock, even if I didn't I wouldn't be using anything thick enough to require a saw, and using a saw would expend more energy regardless unless I'm trying to build a cabin, but that would be beyond the capabilities of any camping related saws.
These. Or, the Hiker, if you're cool with the 91 mm models.
victorinox army issue
Victorinox Huntsman. Has two blades, a saw, and awl, scissors, and the other main Victorinox tools. The corkscrew is super handy for untying knots.
Have you ever actually tried to use a SAK saw seriously? They're for small branches in a pinch, not for proper saw work. Get a folding saw and a good knife. You will be much better served.
Yeah. I lived abroad for a stint and didn't want to invest in hand tools so brought along my Outrider. I was able to use it to disassemble and cobble together basic furniture for my apartment with it."In a pinch" is exactly what they are for. Why do you evaluate a 3.5 inch folding saw on a pocket knife for "proper saw work?"
That doesn't make sense.
That's beside the point. OP wanted a knife with a saw, and we gave him suggestions, because we're nice like that. I really don't give a frick what he does with it.
I have one and it's quite solid but I really wish I had one of the models where the blade is accessible from the outside.
I can’t use a wave because these are illegal in my country. Can’t carry anything with you that can be operated one handed. If caught they’ll take the knife and you’ll have to pay a fine I believe.
Why do you suddenly thing you're gonna be searched by the dibble because you've got a knife in your pocket. Carry around whatever the frick you want. Deal with things when they happen, not, do nothing because of possible happening.
Victorinox Forester is pretty good, and their saws are probably the best I've used that were integrated with a knife. They're great for staves, if you need to saw something thick, consider a rope saw
I dont have the shoe anymore. The underside came lose at the side and i just couldnt punch through with my sewing needle. The spike didnt go through as easy as i thought it would, but saved the misery of a claffing shoe until i got home.
>You sew your clothes in the wild ?
Awls are multi-purpose >Opening wine bottles ?
Sounds like a nice picnic >Actually open tins that dont have an assist ?
Pretty sure those are still made >Open bottles, in addition to your wine ?
Let the man drink for Gods sake, we all could use a couple these days
Why have serrations on the main blade when you have a saw right next to it? I feel like this would be a pain to field sharpen unless you specifically got files for it
Because why not? I really like mine. It's more beefier than one on the 91mm. Used it for prying open paint cans and as a scraper for scraping old glue from the PVC windows where the mosquito net was and it worked like a charm. I have the 08 soldiers knife.
Just seems a bit unnecessary to me. I enjoy the slipjoint mechanism on SAK's, and while i understand why people would want the blade to lock i don't see a purpose to make the bottle opener lock as well

And yeah, you can pry with it, but i'd rather just keep a small prybar handy than use my SAK
Here's the SAK I gave my mom for mothers day. Came very quick for a custom knife, I made an order for 2 knives on bladehq the same day and they came about 2 or so days later than the SAK.
It was like 50-60 USD, which may be a decent bit for such a small knife, but with changing the scales and putting her name on it it isn't that bad
can't believe these little knifes are so expensive. I'm guessing it's like a high quality brand. I got lucky and found a red one in the street and now its attached to my keys.
>can't believe these little knifes are so expensive. I'm guessing it's like a high quality brand.
Yeah, they hold up a lot better than a lot of the knock off swiss style knives. I'd rather pay extra for something that'll last than something that the scales will fall off in a year.
You can grab a stock version of the one i got for like 30 USD plus tax and shipping on the site, and probably cheaper if you go 3rd party
Yep. I didn't think she'd like something much bigger, and the rambler has lots of tools for how small it is

Rambler, and Manager (has pen instead of toothpick) are peak keychain SAKs. Awesome choice for your mom.
I'd recommend you get a dedicated folding saw.

My saws are part of my extended medical kit.
Bingo.

Are you like a newbie in life in general? Its a prettu popular story..
the only site I browse is this shithole
no social media, no tv, no newspapers whatsoever
There's even a movie about it with James Franco in the main role, 127 hours.
you don't want a saw built in

You know the phrase "better than nothing"? It dooesn't apply to the SAK saw.
That's beside the point. OP wanted a knife with a saw, and we gave him suggestions, because we're nice like that. I really don't give a frick what he does with it.
and branch small enough for cutting with a sak size saw can just be snapped, its totally redundant
It is great for notching.
This tbh. Figure 4 deadfalls are way easier with the saw on me wave+

you DON'T need more

Im thinking of getting a Rebar. Is it a good investment? Still quite expensive. I already have a Micra that I use for the scissors.
save up your money until you can buy a Wave, then save up some more and get a Surge
I can’t use a wave because these are illegal in my country. Can’t carry anything with you that can be operated one handed. If caught they’ll take the knife and you’ll have to pay a fine I believe.
move to America and buy leatherman wave
Why do you suddenly thing you're gonna be searched by the dibble because you've got a knife in your pocket. Carry around whatever the frick you want. Deal with things when they happen, not, do nothing because of possible happening.
What makes the wave better than the rebar?
They look similar spec wise

Buck 110.
The Victorinox grip 55
You sew your clothes in the wild ?
Opening wine bottles ?
Actually open tins that dont have an assist ?
Open bottles, in addition to your wine ?
I once used the sewing spike to fix my shoe. Swiss army knives are useful.
Can you show your fix job
the awl is the only one of the four thath as a use, and thats mainly because it takes up the least amount of space
I dont have the shoe anymore. The underside came lose at the side and i just couldnt punch through with my sewing needle. The spike didnt go through as easy as i thought it would, but saved the misery of a claffing shoe until i got home.
>he doesn't drink wine with qt3.14s while camping
We already had this talk in a previous generic multitool thread.

Sexo
I can't accept a SAK that doesnt have the solid red scales. I just can't.
>Not red
More pocket knives should have multiple blades. This shit is badass.
>with a solid wood saw built in?
so tired of these knoife larpers.
live in a humid area? stainless steel
live in a dry area carbon.
abusing your knoife? softer steel
there frick the handle frick the brand. look at the steel
Opinel knives are pretty good.
Trailmaster
Why have serrations on the main blade when you have a saw right next to it? I feel like this would be a pain to field sharpen unless you specifically got files for it
Thats the point of serrations, they cut even if they are not that sharp.
No need to field sharpen them
there's a version with straight blade too
If this had the corkscrew instead of the screwdriver, I'd love it.
Forester
Rangergrip 79
Ooooh thanks, anons! They're both blurry intriguing;)
I've never owned one of the large SAK's so I may just not get it, but why is the bottle opener lockable?
Because why not? I really like mine. It's more beefier than one on the 91mm. Used it for prying open paint cans and as a scraper for scraping old glue from the PVC windows where the mosquito net was and it worked like a charm. I have the 08 soldiers knife.

If i'm being completely honest, i thought this was the SAK thread when posting this. Oh well
can't believe these little knifes are so expensive. I'm guessing it's like a high quality brand. I got lucky and found a red one in the street and now its attached to my keys.

Yep. I didn't think she'd like something much bigger, and the rambler has lots of tools for how small it is
My mother got me a rambler when I was a wee lad. Great little tool. The position of the blade is much better than on the classic SD.

A Swiss army knife champion will have one that's good for branches. Just bring a dedicated saw if you're looking to really saw logs
