Yeah, when I lived in NJ I read an article about the dude. They call him when there’s a search warrant and lots of bees and also consult with him about CSI stuff.

I think so, IIRC there was a story about him in the NYT. He has a regular detective job if I recall but he’s the “bee guy” on call.

To be honest, in most countries the cop would've either run as fast as he could in a straight line or gotten into the car instead of waggling around swatting at bees like a dumb cunt.

Incorrect,. Cop waved off his buddy in the car because he knew that the bees would have just followed him in and then they'd both be eclosed with bees stinging them.

Swarms of bees are worth a decent amount of money. Most areas have a sign up list for beekeepers so they have a chance at any spotted swarm. Never call an exterminator for honeybees because beekeepers will literally do it for free.

    Were the Bees Africanised?

Probably. I've never heard of regular honeybees attacking that aggressively. Typically you can just jog away a few dozen feet and be safe.

      Unless they're africanized*
Beekeepers are currently trying to breed out most of the aggression in africanized bees but it's a slow process and they're MUCH more likely to swarm. This is why you keep a queenguard on your hive so she can't escape. Too late for that now obviously.

        Anonymous

its also though, the africanized bees are less susceptible to hive collapse and shit.

          Anonymous

Yep. Much more resilient to parasites and diseases with the unfortunate side effect of being total assholes. You can't even introduce a regular European queen to an africanized hive without the workers killing her.

jesus christ why didnt anyone help him

To be fair anyone with a bee allergy would probably be dead. Sometimes it takes two separate instances of being stung to even find out you have an allergy. I knew another beekeeper that didn't find out until she was stung months after the first time.

            eeeeh that isn't entirely true
ANY hive can be requeened but it takes a shit ton of effort and it isn't always guarenteed. The workers have to get used to the queen's pheremones in order to accept her as one, its like blood types in humans if anything
if worse comes to worse you can euthanize the hive, though it isn't recommended since its still a hive of honey bees, but if they present a danger to anyone near them, then its the best thing to do

Bees are hardcore, man, and probably one of the first sorts of biological warfare mankind used, there's tons of accounts of them being used in sieges, open warfare, and even at sea. Even against heavily-armored enemies a swarm of angry bees will still cause horses to panic and force people to shield their eyes.

      Anonymous

Also as a fun fact, researchers have used bees to detect explosives by feeding them TNT-laced syrup, and they're extremely good at finding landmines, with a >99% rate of detection and only 1-2% false positives.

I think people are just unaware of the true power of Bees as weapons. Your good ol' classic Bumblers might not be top tier, but those wasps and hornets will end your day. The Oriental Hornet we saw in Iraq would literally send squads running. All it takes is for one person to kneel in the wrong spot and that big tough weapons squad is now running around crying while dumping water on themselves. We are talking 3,000+ Hornets ready to fuck your shit up.
There is a reason baskets full of hives was used in ancient warfare. Dropping your bee hives onto the attacking enemy is a sure fire way to keep them from the walls.

This incident proves it's high time we impose common-sense bee regulations. Think of the children & volunteer cops.

    >Proposed tactical bee regulations, California style:
    >Hive limits: no more than 5 bees per hive
    >Must have stingers removed and in a locked case separate from bee during swarming (transport) to new location
    >All bees must have background checks
    >Psychological testing of bees. Angry bees to be denied stingers
    >No stinging allowed within populated areas
    >Only allowed to sting at state certified regions

  22. 2 weeks ago
    Anonymous

Wtf lmao what a retarded way to respond to being attacked by bees. Do you run? No, just slowly waddle around swatting at them. Do you get in a car where only 10-20 max will follow you in? No, keep waddling, bash your head on the ground a few times too. Those things can fucking kill you if you're stung enough.

      Anonymous

      >Do you run?
Running from a swarm only hurts you. The bees release a pheromone on you for them to track you and the more you exert yourself the more heat you give off and each time you exhale you release more and more C02 which attracts them. You can't run from a swarm.
      >Do you get in a car where only 10-20 max will follow you in?
He didn't want to get in because the other person would also be trapped inside a vehicle with bees. You severally under estimate how many bees can be attached on a person and how close the stick by a person. A bee hive can have over 40,000 bees in it and a swarm typical has several thousand bees. He would be lucky to only have a couple hundred bees on his person.

Can the bees really fly faster than a human can run?

          Anonymous

Depends on the weather conditions and the type of bee, but they sure as shit can keep up with you under normal conditions. The draft you create alone from running lets a whole swarm tailgate you. It also riles them up.
