This is going to turn into a boxer rebellion type thing, USA, China, Russia, and various Western European navies are going to take part in hammering Yemen and then will launch a ground campaign. The coordination in this operation will foster brotherhood between America, China, and Russia which creates a lasting peace for the rest of this century

      Russia is sponsoring this.
Since they have an uncompetitive economy, nearly nonexistant exports outside of commodities and are currently spending ~40% of their GDP in a war on their border, disrupting global trade is a welcome way to bring everyone down to their level.
      >but they struck Russian oil (and shot at other Russian oil tankers previously)!
Doesn't matter - the product was already paid for. Caveat emptor.

The US reaction has been mild as frick, IMO. If anything it should be stronger to have a more deterrent affect. Right now the US is just "defanging" the Houthis, but Iran will simply resupply them over time.

16 days into the one day operation to demilitarise Yemen and teach the world who’s boss.
Two Royal Navy warships have collided at the dock.
Two US marines committed suicide by jumping overboard.
Red Sea traffic still going down.
Brits self admit they didn’t actually bring the correct weapons to target land based targets.
Oil tanker struck. Crew have had to be rescued by poo navy.
All US allies have refused to send more than “a guy” as a representative on a carrier or some meme.

The jokes over this whole operations re just going to keep getting funnier and funnier. Why the frick did they bother going ahead with it when the Europeans largely shat all over it by not cooperating?

The Houthis started this chimp-fest because "muh Palestine" and it's only earned them scorn. Besides, one pajeet steering a ship did more to stop Suez traffic than all these rockets and drones could hope for, and we still recovered. Houthis won't do anything truly meaningful in the long run.

Did the European allies largely abandoning prosperity guardian lead us to this or have we severely overestimated the capabilities of the USN for too long.

Nah, it has more to do with the fact that the Obama faction--which makes up the largest faction within the current Administration, and easily the most powerful--has always been pro-Iran, from the very beginning, and will absolutely hamstring anyone in the Administration that tries to lift a finger in any meaningful way against the mullahs.

These are the same people who, when the Persian people rose up against a rigged election, not only refused to support them but quietly sided with the mullahs. The same people who demonstrated year after year just how much they hated Israel and wanted Iran to replace Israel and Saudi Arabia as the strongest power in the region. As long as they have power within the government, they will support the Iranian theocracy by any means necessary.

There will be no deterrence against Iran. No retribution. No sanctions. No punishment.

At a glance, they've hit at least chinese, greek, 3 norwegian, swiss and gabonese ships. I'm sure there is a israelite owner somewhere owning stock in some related holding company, but that is being pretty generous about what is a israelite ship.

They've been attacking ships owned by companies registered all over the world and owned by any number of different parties. Their claim that they were limiting themselves to Israeli targets was bullshit long before the US/UK retaliatory strikes. That said, it doesn't really matter, since either way it's going to spook merchant shipping and threaten norms of peaceful navigation.
