How would (you) arm a border guard force? Is machine guns enough? Should there be mortars? Missiles? Artillery?

Depends on a lot of things I guess, UK border force probably has more people armed with pens and rubber stamps than anything else, I imagine Ukrainian border force looks a little different right now

A few cops with pistols should be enough. Or you could do it the proper way and leave it to the individual to protect what’s theirs. The government should consist of a single supreme court. Everything else, including all infrastructure, civil laws, armed forces, and emergency services, should be the responsibility of the citizens and private entities.

You realise that the government is made up of citizens, right?

If it’s the Mexican border, there’s no problems that can’t be solved with an M240 on a pickup truck
If it’s something like the border of a hot zone in Africa, then that might require APCs

    >border force
i mean basically all you need is a pistol, maybe a rifle every so often. what you really need to spend the money on is surveillance and police work to shut down drug smuggling.

border guards are there to stop civilians and criminals from just wandering into the country. they're not an army. even if the cartels try to like ram through a border checkpoint in ghetto armoured trucks or what the fuck ever you just CALL the army. there's no point duplicating that capability.

four MANPADs, four anti-tank guided missiles, eight power washers full to the brim with sarin, twenty rifles with high powered optics, one hundred and sixty mixed purpose landmines (emplaced and replenished at a minimum of once yearly), two APCs, one twenty-man platoon per ten miles of border expected to visually confirm security at least at visual range
US border guard budget: $25 billion
Geneva-approved border guard budget: ~$171.6-$250 million per year in manpower (high end if you keep flexible reserves/rotate forces 3-4 months of the year), $46.8 million per year in landmine acquisition & replenishment (to fall as more territory is mined and basically inaccessible), ~$35.1 million for yearly rifle acquisition/maintenance/ammunition, ~$39 million for MANPADs + accumulating stockpile, ~$134 million for ATGM + accumulating stockpile, ~$55 million APC buyin and maintenance +/- gas, $30 million contract for sarin procurement and degraded substance disposal, $0 in "legal fees" and "prison" expenses (free daycare) - upper limit assuming you are rebuying most of this shit yearly and aside from deliberate stockpiling of munitions in low-pressure areas for future reallocation is ~$0.60 billion
This is how you know the feds aren't serious about cutting budgets

Static defenses and lethal response have proven again and again to be the only deterrent to massive illegal immigration

Most of the budget should be walls, fences barbed wire, equip checkpoints with tear gas dispensers and machine gun emplacements

Control the border with thermal drones, seismographs and ATV patrols

Declare anyone that damages or tries to pass the border without due process an illegal invader and response with lethal force

there would be ugly images from the first weeks but after the third world heard that you’ll get shot when you attempt to cross they will stop coming

Hell you dont even need to shoot them, it’s already enough to have a barbed wire fence and hooligans on ATVs beating them up

a human crossing the border illegally in search of a better life is hardly justification for lethal force

I say you are wrong, and I am right. Invaders forfeit entitlement to cordial treatment.
