ST just keeps going from worse to worse

The game looks pretty awesome. I actually discovered this game today after looking for the Starship Troopers strategy game that came out last year on Steam.

The recent animated movie with some of the original movie's cast was good. It tried to marry, at least in spirit, all the different versions of ST in a way that celebrated them.

Like this, but without the plot armour, authorial bias, organisation, centralised command & control, functioning coms network, heroism, or equipment.
    >tl;dr - they'd get roflstomped pretty quickly.

Very poorly. Consider that the bugs in the film are literally a case of "only pretending to be moronic"
They can coordinate and share complicated intel instantaneously at seemingly infinite range, rip out brains to learn everything the brain knew, and despite the popular "Bugs wuz an inside job" theory, considering no one at any level of government even *once* questions their ability to project force or their own life forms across the galaxy at FTL speeds it seems they *must* have some form of FTL travel.
Consider the Plasma bombardment in the film, the bugs are able to lay down fairly accurate fire of plasma blasts capable of blowing up fast moving ships larger than an aircraft carrier from hundreds of miles away without the use of anything we understand as scanning equipment or telescopes. They're also perfectly comfortable digging vast tunnel networks deep enough to resist nuclear warheads.

Considering their penchant for tunneling it becomes absurdly difficult to actually force them into a disadvantageous engagement despite the fact that 99.9 percent of their forces are just thousand pound bullet resistant scissors on legs.

      >bugs was an inside job
      >bugs send so many meteors that we have to build a defense system to stop them
      >sneak one in through hidden ftl lane (the one carmin dodged)
It's obvious that the Bugs have ftl, because if they don't that just makes them more horrifying.

noticeably, they can also survive in space. how else could they have launched an asteroid at earth.

if they didn't launch an asteroid (space rock) then they would have had to launch from some other planets atmosphere at FTL speeds. which leads to the follow up question of why did nobody bother to check that the "projectile" was indeed a rock and not simply an egg?

I suspect the blast site was probably thoroughly inspected off camera.

The Mobile Infantry was based, and could actually react to a strategy not working.

        >The Mobile Infantry was based, and could actually react to a strategy not working.
Russia went head-first towards kiev, retreated and started to work the outlying regions first instead. The mobile infantry went head-first towards K, retreaded and started to work the outlying systems first.

Isn't going from thunder-rushing and mobile armored warfare to human wave tactics with massed artillery support a change in doctrine? I'm not saying the russians are doing better for it, but the similarities to the movie MI are plenty

It'd be really hard to fight an enemy that does 99% of it's movement via rapid tunneling.

Which is ironic because that’s been what Russia has been dealing with in Ukraine. Mariupol, Severdonetsk, Bahkmut, etc all have vast multi-layer underground networks of pre-Soviet catacombs, Soviet nuclear bunkers and tunnel systems, and post-Soviet sewers and utility tunnels and stuff. Part of the whole reason it’s so hard for them to capture towns has been that every time they push in they have to play whack-a-mole with Ukrainians randomly popping up deep behind their lines and wreaking havoc.

gee, you'd think someone in the back could look into the archives and find the old plans for the tunnel systems that the Russians installed back when they were the USSR.

Russia loses, with or without using nukes. Their biomass will get added to the bugs.
