On one hand I agree, but on the other hand 3D printing, CNC, and other methods of making firearms at home are kindof inevitable as technology evolves.

If anything I'd say there would be a niche group of people that make their own guns just for the hell of it.

There’d probably be a niche group of people trying to one up each other by fitting the largest caliber possible into a single man portable and shootable platform.

I do agree with that, but it's not so much our responsibility as citizens to enforce, but the states. At least with any meaningful results.
States have to tell the feds to pack sand. Which seems to be the plan for most states.

The second amendment isn't a law. Its a recognition of a natural/god-given right, and a restriction on the ability of the federal government to pass infringements. The right to bear arms would exist even without the second amendment.

They banned handgun carry in 1870's and gradually peeling restrictions since 1995.

Most recently court removed the ban on 18-21 from carrying.

As far as NFA, Texas is suing the feds over the suppressor rule. State law prohibits local popo from collaborating with feds to enforce nfa.

most standard pistols would have automatic settings. Because they can. Bump fire would have never been invented.

Miniguns would still be rare, granted there'd be a 100 or so but still rare, those things are expensive and awkward to deal with.

Anti Material Rifles would hardly change.

Itd probably be like it is today, only less so. The hysteria from impending nationwide bans has driven people to get armed to the teeth before they cant. Streisand effect in action, if those gays would have never even made mention of banning shit then it wouldnt be any more popular than regular sporting shit. But because people want what they cant have and tyrants keep pushing, we now have THE most heavily armed society in all of history. Id like to think this was on purpose in light of something far greater than any of us are aware of (wh40k imperium type shit woth the creation of a new imperial guard legion made up of americans) but I think the simpler reality is simply newtons law of physics and tyrants trying to power grab.

this is my favorite gun fact/phenomenon ever. before the AWB, AR-15s were essentially a rarity and the scale of industry made them quite expensive. the goverment gets antsy, bans a gun that effectively was never used in crimes and now there are dozens of millions -- and because they're so cheap and modular, they're *now* common in gang violence

        Anonymous

And heres why thats a good thing.
Before the 1940s and even up until the 60s and 70s the best weapon one could get would have been a surplus M1G, but the most common would have been bolt action rifles and pump action shotguns. Now put an (by defition) assault rifle in their hands and there is an appreciable amount of firepower and versatility versus anything that came before it.
It put the firepower of entire 20th century squads into the hands of one man. It effectively turned the united states reserve militia (aka the people) from past century rifleman into riflemen that could outmatch any other refular righting force to date.
If patton could see the AR in all its glory Im sure he would call it the new greatest battle implement.

A reminder that the 1994 AWB was passed BEFORE 1999 Columbine shootings. No way a sunset clause would've been possible after that. There was a real chance this could've been our generation's Hughes Amendment or the 1934 NFA and Columbine becoming America's Port Arthur or Hungerford/Dunblane had the politicians waited a few more years.
Now that you mention it I have to agree, divine intervention may have played a part.

Ive heard this arguement before and its retarded. Those queermos bought the cheapest most moron shit possible, they wouldnt have even had the cash to dole out for a fucking M16, if they could even find one given how uncommon they were at that point in time.
And port arthur was a black op by the australian SBS, so comparing apples to oranges is kind of null.

          Anonymous

You're not getting me, it's less about apples to oranges and more fruit to fruit. Of course Port Arthur was a setup and Columbine had two idiots behind it but it doesn't really matter how it happened, only that it did.
Australian politics went anti gun because of Arthur. Columbine happened despite the AWB. The AWB would have been permanent had it come out in the wake of Columbine and it most likely would've had much harsher restrictions. The AWB and its sunset clause birthed the modern gun culture of heavy resistance against any attempt at regulation, even despite multiple shootings since.

Cant seem to find a round count at the ak thread besides cracked trunnions at like 75k. I am more of an AK fan just because I think they are cooler, but do you really expect to send 10k rounds through your AR in SHTF scenario? These things were designed to have a short and violent life, 10k seems like plenty especially when you can just drop in a new bcg in 10 seconds.
