This is specifically the Boxer with a RCT30 battle module, i.e. the same turret as on the Puma (I believe this is the standard armed Boxer configuration for Germany?):

no, they are getting both. The manned Turret one is going to be used by Jaeger units as a heavy weapons platform, so its storage will carry more ammo for everything.
Meanwhile the one for the Panzergrenadiers are going to use will be the remote controlled Puma turret one.

Ukraine would be a good testing ground for sure

the Lance Boxers for the Jäger troops have already been ordered
the decision for the Panzergrenadiere hasn't been made yet, but the RCT30 seems to be the favorite

Considering they lost spectacularly against bolt action rifles I don't think they could win in a modern setting.

I'm tired of this gay shit. Just dump 500 bradleys or the Ukrainian mechanics will go postal.

They already ordered some in the artillery configuration ,so they would need to know how to repair them anyway.

Well considering they are massive and are about as protected as any old western IFV I would assume they would perform like shit and also get stuck often

They should be as protected as a Bradley if not more, right? They should be ok.

No if you want that fancy shit you’ll have to get a CV-90. CVs mog boxers in every application so I don’t understand why people always tout the boxer

I still can’t believe the 155mm is viable, it looks like it half the vehicle would come apart when you fire. Mechanical engineers really do some sorcerous things sometimes, I cannot imagine how the recoil force is safely distributed.

I am more concerned about the wear on the mechanical parts.

this feels like a unit from a command and conquer game, where the unit pops out of the war factory, then you click on it and select a module, and while the unit is moving towards the enemy, there's an upgrade bar loading and suddenly the module pops out

You can't shoot down enemy aircrafts with pencil dick cannons.

    >wheels
It's automatically going to be more vulnerable to artillery and less capable in mud than an equivalently armored tracked vehicle for inherent physical reasons.

Dunno but isn't it a bit risky for the West to send their newest toys to Ukraine?

      Anonymous

I'm not certain there's any at-risk technologies here. The Puma turret and gun have been around since the 90's IIRC and most of the innovation is in the "backend" with how it's essentially a standardized motor chassis that has a mission-specific module attached to it, which simplifies maintenance. There might be some battlefield networking shit there but that can probably just be solved by removing the radio equipment and replacing with more "off the shelf" models.

This could very well be a post war arms deal with the first Boxers arriving in 2027 for all we know

Worst case scenario is that millions are saved in overhauls and some western nation gets a black eye to their ego as the v1 variant likely downgraded dies to a mine or something. There's zero downside to testing toys in Ukraine because anything given to Ukraine is going to be severely limited in terms of vulnerable tech. Even if the Russians captured a Himars or F16 and sold it to China, all the Chinese would do is either recognize this is old shit they already stole info from or that they lack the ability to utilize the tech in any meaningful way.

useless gimmick, changing the position within 2 minutes is enough to protect against counterbattery fire, artillery should get APS to protect against lancets instead
