    Advantage: Ukraine.

This. The normal Russian advantage in winter is lost because they are attacking not defending. Also this will be Ukrainian land subjected to a Ukrainian winter. Home field advantage is a real factor.

I heard the Ukrainians have gotten like 200k sets of winter clothing from NATO. What do the Russians have? All their winter clothing is probably moth eaten.

Also Yurop just had the hottest summer in living memory, I'm not sure they'll be freezing. Like holy shit winters have been getting warmer over the past few years. Forgive me for drama homosexualry but I'm from WNY and when I was a kid in the 90s we used to have huge, terrible blizzards. For the past few years though we barely have roads closed more than once or twice. If it's the same in Yurop, they might well have problems but winter will no longer be one.

          Hoosier Reich here.

Use to get 2-5 blizzards yearly here and the last 5 or so years I've been able to ride my motorcycle during Feb/March in 70+ weather, summer was hot as shit here locally they were breaking records monthly on new highs.

Climate change is my guess but who fricking knows.

Southern Bavaria here, like half an hours drive from the Alps.)

In my childhood we used to have power outtages and entire villages getting cut off by heavy snowfall almost every winter. Nowadays we don't even get half a meter of snow anymore most of the time. I went to fricking school at -10-20°C during the coldest parts of winter, nowadays it's rare that we get -10.

Why would you not go to school just because its a bit cold?
Also the reason you don't get power outages may also be technical in many places power lines were put underground instead making power outages from snow a thing of the past.

              Anonymous

Well, -20 was kinda shit. Standing aorund waiting for the schoolbus at that kinda temperature (and you'll have to wait, because it'll be late when the weather is that shit) was a pain in the ass.

My old home village never had the power lines moved udnerground, we're truly in the middle of nowhere by centrla european standards. Like, 18km before you even hit anything bigger than another village. We've had windmills and a small garbage/biocompost-burning plant pop up in the municipality, though, which does kinda help I guess.

Dude, I'm from Chicongo, and the Blizzard of 1979 is legendary there. Your 1990s winters were mild in comparison to the late 1970s.

But the thing about "climate change" is that the climate is ALWAYS changing -- and right now, we're nearing the END of the typical cyclic 10,000 year "interglacial" period. This is because the Sun has a cooldown mode for about 50,000 to 100,000 years, and then goes into a hot mode for about 10,000 years. It's a cycle that has repeated for as far back as geologists can track. Just like there is an 11-year (really 22-year) sunspot cycle, which ALSO has a (much smaller) heating cycle associated with it.

The reality is that while our puny "greenhouse gases" might have a tiny effect, the sun going out will have a much larger effect, and that's due any day now. We are actually overdue for the cooldown period. And no, that's not a human thing, we have about as much effect on the Sun's internal fusion processes as we have on the black hole at the center of the galaxy in the direction of Sagittarius.

tl;dr buy land in Ecuador, and no I'm not joking. Your great-great-grandkids will fricking freeze to death otherwise.

        Anonymous

Implication hell, that's the Ukrainian command's expectations. There was an article on UkrInform yesterday, and the translation of one of the paragraphs is, to borrow a metaphor, chilling.

        https://www.ukrinform.ua/rubric-ato/3566162-ak-zabezpeciti-voennu-kampaniu-u-202
        3-roci-ukrainskij-poglad.html

        > Only in this case can we discuss the impact on the real center of gravity of the Russian Federation in this war. It lies in its "remote" - in the understanding of most Russians - character. Due to this distance, citizens of the Russian Federation do not so painfully perceive the losses, failures, and most importantly – the cost of this war in all its understandings. A convincing example of the correctness of this approach this year is the successful efforts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to physically transfer hostilities to the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. We are talking about a series of successful missile strikes on the Crimean air bases of the enemy, first of all - on the airfield of Saki[4]. The task of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for 2023 is to make these feelings sharper, more natural and quite tangible for Russians and other occupied territories, despite the considerable distance to the targets.

        Read that last sentence again.

        > The task of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for 2023 is to make these feelings sharper, more natural and quite tangible for Russians and other occupied territories, despite the considerable distance to the targets.

People freezing to death without gas is just BS used for common-grade propaganda. As Germany is currently proving steps can be taken minimize and likely eliminate that risk. That messaging is there only because it has the best impact vs regular people (especially women).

The REAL issue is that German industry is uniquely dependent on gas. That’s why their business community has been desperately begging the government to abandon the gas sanction regime. We’re talking about the industrial heartland of Europe.

BTW, "chemicals" includes "making fertilizer" and also "making munitions". Natgas (methane) is an essential input for making ammonia using the Haber process.

Amusingly, the WEF has been pushing governments to restrict the use of nitrogen fertilizers. That's what the riots in Denmark and the Netherlands have been about. It's also why Sri Lanka's food production got cut in half, resulting in starvation and the government being overthrown. BTW, in Canada, Trudeau is pushing fertilizer restrictions now. . . .

And then all the leftards chant that there's no global WEF conspiracy, and you're an alt-right conspiracy nutcase Nazi transphobic bigot if you tell them to just look at the documents the WEF has published about restricting the use of chemical fertilizers on the WEF's own website.

My prediction for Russia in Ukraine is this: Ukraine will continue to hit their logistics, thus stopping all possible advances. Time, as well as Gods will, is on the Ukies side.
Ukies will have less and less casualties, while the Russians numbers rise and rise. Eventually Ivan either has to nook or admit defeat.

Nürnberg. They invented Christmas markets in 200BC.

German gas storages are full. That's enough gas to last them through the whole winter and spring.

First, they aren't completely full, only almost.
Second, they will only last till about mid of January if we don't shut down industry.
That means, as it looks right now, the LNG terminal in Wilhelmshaven, supposed to go online in December, really needs to go online.
Otherwise we have to turn off some industry, which will be a costly affair.
What i'm saying is, nobody will freeze, that is absurd at this point, but we might get an economic hit if the preparations fail for some reason.
No need to panic, but we must be aware that not all risks are mitigated fully.

Most likely some of your industry has already turned off.
My friend in the plastics business told me they run at half capacity in daytime because of electricity prices. Mind you that is in Scandinavia so historically prices have been low. But when energy is 50% of your operating costs you would have needed a very good profit margin before this started in order to not be affected.

How will this winter affect through the russo-ukrainian war? Which side will have the advantage?

      >How will this winter affect through the russo-ukrainian war?

The main effect will be geopolitical. Winter is going to exacerbate Europe's energy crisis which will put pressure upon NATO to resolve the conflict so that they can resume Russian oil shipments. My expectation is this will result in NATO backing a peaceful settlement that ends up ceding Donetsk and Luhansk to the Russians or more likely set them up as "independent" republics which will effectively act as Russian satellite states and a buffer zone between Russia and Ukraine. That said NATO could go full balls to the wall and say frick it lets send in NATO forces and maybe start WWIII.

The gif you posted proves why that is not going to happen. Russia has tried to deny ukrainian gas/oil to the EU fearing because it feared becoming economically irrelevant to it, and that's what is going to happen now that the russian military has proven to be a failure.

NATO and the EU countries aren't going to risk being black mailed by Russia again in the future. Putin's Russia based in EU money for natgas is over.
