What the fuck are those elevators?

Same way the F-35 mounts its elevators. Less boom = more aerodynamic surface area and it's also generally more compact.

Airframe is probably fine but that isn't what decides anything in modern air combat. Meteor integration means it does at least stand a chance though. In terms of exports it isn't going to be able to compete with F-35 from a cost or performance standpoint, it'll be competing in the same space as Rafale has been.

always funny how engines are the great filter for fighter aircraft building ambitions.

Most countries (korea/sweden/china) buy others until they can take the time to figure out how to reverse engineer it, or become close enough allies to get a tech transfer.

cause it's a lot harder and more expensive to do R&D on something new than it is to copy a proven platform.

The US is realistically the only nation in the world that can undertake a massive brand new novel fighter jet project alone.

Aren't the engines the basis unto which you build an aircraft? One of the first pieces you need to define?

From who? The only people capable of high performance engines certainly aren't going to hand them over

Any recent source to support this?

We know the 10 engines they currently have for the prototypes are all F110s, and so far there is a deal to produce at least another 40 F110 engines under license domestically (no tech transfer).

Going forward they'd like to domestically produce an engine to replace the F110, but I haven't seen much to suggest they've got a viable partner to give them the tech transfer they need.

Turkish engineering isn't good enough to miniaturize components.
    It's shit.
