bearing in mind it was produced nearly a decade ago.

It was right about multicam, right about the US wanting a 6+mm gun at some point, right about economic issues facing the west comparable to a general decline, right about the pivot to Asia.

The stuff it was wrong about tends to just be overall equipment selection for "NATO" which was mostly because the assets were made when the original plot called for Israeli and Greek factions.

    Arma 2 predicted it better
    >post Soviet shithole has a breakaway pro-Russian rebel region that starts a civil war and eventually drags both the US and Russia in
    NAPA is literally Azov/Aidar too

      >NAPA is literally Azov/Aidar too

I never thought of them that way but now that you think of it, they both share an affinity for Flecktarn camouflage, balaclavas, and AKs. Basically the badasses that Atomwaffen memes pretend to be.

Superficially in terms of aesthetics, but badly in a mechanical sense. People who were in middle school in 2013 assume that BIS pulled the stuff in A3 out of their ass; but they were just implementing trends and "future weapons with mac" memes of the time. They wholesale failed to realize drone warfare even though suicide drones were being used in Afghanistan before the game was released, they failed to represent how far NODs would go (PSQs were being issued at the time; blackops 2 had fusion vision, and its a year older. closest thing ingame is a rare af CSAT scope, when it should be standard to at least CTRG if not all Nato) and they failed to implement networked comms and BFTs. The thing they did go out on a limb about that nobody else was talking about in the early 2010s, refrigerated cooler suits in military use, have not materialized at all. Not to say I have anything against the setting, but this zoomer notion that Arma 3 was some deus-ex-tier prophetic work is representative of a player base that simply weren't paying attention to these sorts of things when the game was being developed.

Not disagreeing with your other points but Arma 3 definitely had drone warfare as one of its big selling points.

yeah but it took a long time in the game's development for drones to reach a level of maturity
until the jets DLC came out and you could customize pylons (five years) you could only drop laser guided bombs or shoot AGMs from drones, you had one drone based vehicle and one mini drone for recon
things have improved considerably but its still kinda shit

Too accurately in some cases, in other places they were actually much too conservative.
They did frick up thermals in the most recent update though. Fricking Dyslexci. He doesn't even use thermals in his group.

Why did you make this collage with the mod IVAS? The vanilla ballistic glasses have a HUD anyway, so using a mod from 2021 as an example doesn't serve to reinforce your point.

ENVGs in the game have a thermal mode

Unlike what some fricking morons will say, ArmA did a good job at predicting the obsequiousness of drones and pushed the engine to its limits in that regard, since some smaller drones just don't work correctly in the jank ass physics engine. They were completely wrong about the role of drones, though, and pretty much just cribbed notes from fricking GRAW of all things.

From a vehicle standpoint lol no everything in the game is based on real hardware except the aircraft which are just phoned in memes about near future planes that aren't materializing in the slightest. WHAT IF STEALTH A-10? WHAT IF F-18X? And then the non-Blu factions just have real aircraft rebranded. The main ground vehicles are watered down versions of already second and third tier battle tanks like Merkava and T-14, or concept vehicles like Black Eagle, and it took DLC before we even started getting close to capabilities real tanks were getting fitted with when the game came out.

From the infantry's perspective absolutely the frick not. Holy shit it's atrocious. ATGMs were already a defining feature of the infantryman way back then and they were completely phoned in until we got... uh, recoilless launchers? in DLC. Bohemia made the prediction that rails would remain king into 2036, something that was becoming less true even as the game developed. The CMMG gun that was designed for the game, NATO's MX pattern rifle, is kind of cool but only in a way I would describe as the mid 2000s version of retrofuturism. It's modular, but only in the way that an XM-8 was. They basically failed to identify why enduring systems like the AR-15 and AK-74 are enduring and just phoned in space-y looking guns from around the world. Until DLCs, where they got bullied by the people who wanted a contemporary bad enough to only introduce new guns that are just renamed versions of extant ones, but not bad enough to ditch the stupid fricking setting to begin with.

if you want the "dropping grenades on people" experience, you can use the IDAP drone which has small explosive charges, meant to destroy mines.
You can also use scripts to change the droppable weapon into large explosives like bombs.

Don't know why my browser corrected ubiquity to obsequiousness, frick yourself Bill.

Body armor? Nothing, memechops in DLC. Absolutely baffling that they tried for so little besides kevlar jumpsuits worn by the Iranians, especially when they've already made it okay for them to outright steal and rename extant weapons and equipment. So why are all the plate carrier concepts hopelessly out of date? Why are the future helmets all just pots with more shit taped to the side? At least steal the Airframe or some other zoomer looking shit instead of putting in another bump helm with the skater holes JUST LIKE BLACK HAWK DOWN. Excusable since they made that game, I guess. This part feels really disappointing since this is the game that the inventory and equipment system got a major overhaul in, that would have promoted some more ambitious modeling of body armor systems. However, it was also around this time that Bohemia started pretending that they make multiplayer games people want to play competitively, my evidence being ArmA's massive number of dead game modes and the scaled down team vs team shooter they made with ArmA as a based. I think attention was turned away from going wild with the near future setting for the purposes of a tamer, more balance-able multiplayer environment.

Grenades and handhelds? They didn't even try here so I'm not going to either. The game launched with grenades, smoke grenades, and basic signals. There it languished. Ne'er did an infantry-borne gadget enter the Bohemian mind until the spectrum device. Which, by the way, is just something for the story in Contact.

Someone already said MTP = multicam = they predicted a popular pattern getting more popular. Really not an impressive shot since OCP was already going out at the time. Rather more impressive they managed to come up with absolutely zero useful or innovative camouflages for the OPFOR factions so they just gave them meme camo to make them identifiable in multiplayer.

        >that would have promoted some more ambitious modeling of body armor systems
It feels distinctly videogamey that the only people in Nato and AAF who wear deltoid and groin armor are grenadiers. Always annoyed me that the equipment is so limited in variety, if only for verisimilitude. No machinegunner of any faction wears pouches that could actually hold ammo for his gun, either.
        >absolutely zero useful or innovative camouflages for the OPFOR factions so they just gave them meme camo to make them identifiable in multiplayer.
I don't really mind the green pixel camo on all their stuff, but its pretty disappointing to see the wholesale lack of Greek equipment in the AAF arsenal. Actually the lack of Greek presence at all ingame is conspicuous, since they would have responded to the CSAT invasion far quicker than the 6th fleet.
