How viable is a 1950’s load out modern day? I feel the firearm aesthetics from the 50’s and think it’s about time I grab a M14 and carbine.
How viable is a 1950’s load out modern day? I feel the firearm aesthetics from the 50’s and think it’s about time I grab a M14 and carbine.
For what purpose?
Self defence/shtf
So for larping
Autists laud the 30 Carbine cartridge as a just as gud round but honestly it lacks smacking power to really deliver that frick you message.
if you're deterring opportunistic looters or fighting some guys it's going to work fine, but the fricked up meth head on a combo of bath salts, pcp, and who knows what is going to take a whole magazine of that shit and still keep running at you with his aids infested shiv.
If you really like running an M1 Carbine and practice with it, I don't see why not. There are better options for sure, but this isn't a bad one.
> it lacks smacking power to really deliver that frick you message
Strongly disagree.
>ambushing some lightly, if even, armored cop and still not killing him quickly
really not proving your point
Shhh. Back to le reddit with you and your infantile understanding of ballistics.
>no argument
I accept your concession
>honestly it lacks smacking power to really deliver that frick you message.
Only if you believe dumbasses who fell for "muh pappy said it wouldn't go through chink overcoats in korea"
Jim Cirillo dropped bodies with it on the NYPD Stakeout Squad. Said it was super reliable quick kill
He used soft points iirc, not that it wouldnt absolutely suck to get hit with either
Doesn't it perform similarly to .357 magnum out of lever rifle?
>Doesn't [rifle round] perform similarly to [handgun round]
Yeah moron, what next, gonna say .357 out of a rifle doesn't have any stopping power?
based. the only round capable of stopping a man reliably is m855a1 out of a 10" geissele. oorah
it seems to be a waste of money buying obsolete gear, when you could spend the same money on a more comfortable kit. Well the rifle will shoot the same as in 1945, but i would rather use a molle vest than frick around with this kit
>Self defence
You could refuse to buy guns that weren't on the market before the end of WWI and you'd still have commonly available options that are enough gun for any civilian self defense situation that has ever happened.
>muh SHTF
Doesn't tell us shit due to the massive variety of what people talk about planning for.
Larp however you want anon
>How viable is a 1950’s load out modern day?
For what task?
>30 carbyne
It will keel
>.308
It will keel
if it's for aesthetics, go for it. Nobody can tell you how to larp lol.
t. M1A and great grandads service carbine owner.
Everyone born after 1980 is immune to old stuff, sorry
Audie Murphy, America's most decorated veteran, picked up a M1 Carbine for a "Black person rifle" during the ~~*civil rights*~~ era.
Nice dubs OP
he gave one to someone else as a Black person gun
Here ya go anon
Correct, incredibly based
Italian americans unending dedication to casual racism is truly their main contribution to the american experience kek
The lack of body armor and the lack of optics (if you don't put an Ultimak rail on the Carbine) will hinder you compared to a more modern kit, but it will still kill people just as good as it used to.
Anybody know any good ceramic plates that are a good price? Are there any steel plates worth getting for backup if the ceramics somehow get too damaged?
Asking for prepping purposes
Use a mini-14
Do you know what that little tiny scope is on the top one? I really like it; wonder if it's a Weaver or something. Maybe a red dot? Tasco Accudot with some kind of rubber eye cup? Accudot knockoff? Fug I like it.
I keep an M1 Carbine for home defense because I'm dumb and I think they're cool. Ultimak rail with a SIG Romeo and a scout light combo on a pressure switch. It's like a PCC I guess I dunno they're unreliable pieces of shit but I still like it.
>red dot on M1
looks cool tho
It's also entirely reversible. Ultimak rail is a clamp on to the barrel, no other alterations made to the gun.
It was one of those spider web coated, beat to shit Ethiopian M1 with the rotting stocks they found in a warehouse. I completely stripped it, cleaned it, lubed it up and replaced every spring and worn component. Not a rare model or manufacturer either so I think I can be forgiven for the minor modernizations.
Sorta reminds me of the one in Return to Castle Wolfenstein
snooper gang
How much were they?
Does it even hold zero since the optic is just held on via clamp?
>Ethiopian M1
Hey, I got one of those too. My front sight is filed down too much and it shoots too high
*an M14
>viable
Of course. Training and discipline and fitness and cooperation win wars. Compare and contrast the many users and misusers of every popular firearm.
depends on where you live. You would be on top of the food chain in many parts of yurop with that loadout
>ctrl F "spitfire"
>none found
for shame
>1950's
Viable for what? Playing dress-up in your suburban bedroom? Yes, it's viable.
You people sound like you think there's some actual use for your guns beyond shooting for fun, it's silly.
