How to fight against a knife in close quarters?

What are my options besides dying?

snub nose revolver or any pistol with a WML that can be used as a standoff device
also, avoid coming into arms reach of morons

Without a gun, the only thing that works is to control the knife. Put your entire body and soul into getting on to their hand and wrist with the knife in it, and stay on it until the knife is out of plY or the opponent is. Twist it, break it, whatever, just do t let go.
Also a reasonably sized heavy stick, like a shillelagh or a youth baseball bat, anything to keep distance between you and the knife

Stupid advice, that'd be like recommending someone to push the trigger to avoid getting shot. What'd really happen is 3 stabs in 2 seconds, you standing around like a retard for 9 seconds then loss of consciousness

this is a "can't run away" scenario. what anon said is better than cowering in a corner as he stabs you through the chest 20 times

Except knives don't go bang when you squeeze them.
It's the only thing that works. Drilled it hundreds of times, tried everything. It's not foolproof but it's the only way to get your odds over 75% empty handed

I'm not talking out my ass, the only way to deal with a knife unarmed is to CONTROL THE KNIFE

Did you stop when the knife touched you or just assume you'd be too hopped on adrenaline to react to being carved?

                Anonymous

depends on who was reffing, generally a neck or groin touch was a stop, also a hard stab, otherwise we'd go until it was clear the vic was going to be dead or worse.
interestingly, once the knife player got dominance, they usually never gave it up again, because even if the vic had control of the hand with the knife, once they lost it, they were playing catchup after that which means you lose.
so basically after the gap is closed, you get one shot to get ahead of the knife player and control the knife and if you miss or get it and lose it, you lose.
running away works until they got you in a corner and reliably somebody would go for the big hiyaa and drop kick the attacker, that only works once tho

If there's only one weapon involved you better get it. Pretty sure that's how knife on knife fights are supposed to go too. Parry with your off hand and let them slice it up while you go for a stab.

Took Krav Maga for three years. Lots of knife defense training with rubber knives. There's very little I fear more than fighting someone else that has a knife. Get as much distance as you can, find an exit. Failing that, a front defense kick works in keeping distance. But in all likelihood,
you're gonna get stabbed. A lot.

Same, managed to get orange belt, did the trial/test for green belt but left the club I was in for unrelated issue before I got the answer if I passed.
I dont look forward being in a knife fight either.
Guess it's not for nothing that the first lesson I got taugh by them is to run away as soon as possible and to not value your money/phone/car more than your life.

A truism for knife fight is "winner goes to hospital, loser goes to morgue." It's very dangerous and a fatal blow can happen extremely easy.
    https://vidmax.com/video/213839-graphic-fist-fight-at-brisbane-mall-ends-with-24-year-old-stabbed-in-neck-20-year-old-charged-with-murder
Keep your distance at all cost. Some recommend using jacket or shirt to entangle opponents knife hand. Whatever you do you must keep your focus on the knife. If you cannot get away, gaining control of the knife is your only hope.

    >Run. One stab can end your life, unless you can always ensure a 20-30 feet of distance between you and someone with a knife, you can't outdraw them
    https://webmshare.com/play/dP8rY
    >1. watch the hands. inexperienced attackers give themselves away with body language (rushing, squaring up) but sneaky ones can seem fine until they go for their pockets
    >2.if you have a backpack or bag, get it between you and the attacker. a jacket or extra clothing like a scarf gets wrapped around your nondominant arm stays between you and the knife. use any objects nearby you can use to keep them away, like chairs
    >3. maintain distance, if someone gets close you might already be dead and not know it. defenders reaction time seldom beats attacker's initiative, you need distance to identify and react to a threat.
    >4. if you can't maintain distance, circle away from the knife-hand to the outside of your assailant and try kicking their knees perpendicular to the joint or teep kick to the lower body to try and push them back or hopefully stop them following if you injure them.
    >5. if you can't maintain distance or disable them beyond the range of their knife, there are a variety of jiujitsu techniques adapted in various styles to control a weapon arm based on joint locks or holds, I've practiced these with friends and markers and you always get cut, but sometimes you can disarm someone without getting a fatal stab - generally opening with a strike to the face or eyes to disorient then followed by something like a ganseki nage to wrist control or double-wrist control to a Dagestani drag, kakae hiji dori, a throw, or a kimura or keylock.
    >6. IMPORTANT - weakening the grip on a knife requires placing your fist over the knifehand's closed fist and rolling the hand inward toward the inside forearm - this causes the tendons in your hand to lengthen and weakens the hold on the knife, allowing you to work your fingers into the palm and pull the knife out of their hand

The drunken gauchos in my country had a tendency to get into fights easily with huge daggers and a poncho wrapped around their forearm, so I would suggest doing the same with some thicc fabric clothing.

this is useful if you both have big slashy knives, not so much if you are unarmed and dealing with some dude ice-pick gripping a knife. a few layers of cloth will stop a slash but not a stab, and if you are unarmed you will need both hands available to 2v1 their knife arm as soon as you have the chance.

Historically, a bigger knife, a club, or a gun.
If you've got a longer weapon, strike for the knife arm while maintaining distance.
Don't turn your back or run away unless you're confident you have the advantage and can escape. So either you think you're faster, can trip or incapacitate him, or create some sort of distraction. And obviously it's no good if there's nowhere to go like that guy on the subway.
And remember, if you're in a knife fight the guy is trying to KILL YOU and the only way to survive is to make him UNABLE TO. So either you have to break his arms/legs, knock him out, or kill him. And you've got to do this probably in a single move in less than a coupe seconds. So unless you're mike tyson with brass knuckles punches are totally pointless and will get you killed. At absolute minimum you need a rock or a hard piece of metal. If you've got nothing then you've got to take the knife.
