You guys do have open carry as long as you say you're going or coming back from fishing. Miami Vice made shoulder holsters seem practical in Florida.

Anon, I doubt that would work in the city.

And if some bumfrick town’s sheriff is looking to crack down on crime but doesn’t wanna actually deal with the meth gangs, you’re the perfect target for him to chase.

Aren't there fishing places just outside of most cities in Florida? I mean, the state is covered with rivers, ponds, and lakes. I figure you're fine as long as you stick a fishing pole and tackle box in your car.

Thats like trying to use IL's partially concealed bit in Chicago. Sure technically pic related is considered concealed carry in IL but go ahead and try that in cook county and see how far you get

I use a shoulder holster more then anything but I don't live in Florida either lol and open carry is legal here. I don't actually open carry with it per se in public, but that does mean if I print or am sloppy or whatever it's not a LEGAL problem (and being a very rural region it's not a problem in general either).

CCing with a shoulder holster is very doable with the right clothes, but the kind of clothes that make it work don't strike me as typical florida attire. Shoulder holsters are rare choices for a reason. Normal IWB is almost certainly what you actually should do.

I want to get one because I wear a sport coat or overshirt most of the time that would conceal it. For summer balls in your face heat I just have a Tier 1 IWB but this seems more practical at times.

      >Do you really wear jackets down there?
Not OP, I'm a New Hampshire guy who has only ever gone to florida in January or February to see family or for a wedding. But it wasn't too miserable at that point to wear a suit jacket, even though I was in t-shirt or shorts most of the time. If you go to fancy clubs a lot or work in finance or something I think you could make a thin jacket work.

Actually thinking back it was kind of hilarious how obvious we northern tourists were, because the natives really were wearing actual warm weather clothing even though it was in the 50s or 60s! Whereas we were going swimming in the atlantic (granted the water wasn't warm enough to be fun for hours). Haven't been since before coof though.

I’m in Miami and this is basically how we ID tourists. I’ve been here for almost 10 years now and anytime the temp dips below 75 it’s layers on layers time.

I think it’s hilarious when people come here when it’s 60 and walk around in shorts while we’re all bundled up and actually drinking hot coffee instead of iced.

But also remember, if I can tell you’re a tourist, an N can tell you’re a tourist, and if you get lost in the hood, you better not have anything fancy on you.

For sure, but I was actually visiting family, none of whom live in more dense or worse areas. They're way richer then we are actually after getting into property down there way back when it was cheaper, now they've got really nice places on the coast in west palm beach and such. I'm happy with where I am, I honestly love vermont/nh/maine, but no denying they have some neat toys (that I'm not into but was fun as a visitor).

At any rate wasn't really wandering around the cities for better or worse, nicer neighborhoods, fancy clubs, boats, shit like that mostly though a few cool museums. Fun for a trip but I was happy to be leave as well no offense, just not my personal ideal and I'm sure Florida folks feel the same if they visit up here (or at least hope they enjoy it as a trip before heading back). I did go to the cape though, always been into rocketry so was legit cool to go see NASA in person. Everglades were fun as well. From a shooting department I assume there are decent places in the panhandle or central or wherever if I owned a 100-200 acres like up here, though without our mountains and hills. None of us on the east coast have millions of acres of BLM land in our back yards so doubt we're any better or worse.

To answer your question, yeah a shoulder holster would work, but only if you wanna dress like a fricking dweeb. Either wear a suit and deal with the sweat, or just IWB and deal the sweat anyways. Lmao
And to answer your second question: I once asked a native Floridixn why yall dont have OC, and he said, “FL’s economy is heavily dependent on tourism, so we really dont wanna scare the foreigners”

I wore a shoulder holster under a pretty thick leather coat and printed while I was at a supermarket.
Some guy said "He has a gun '" as I was leaving the store. It didn't cause any problems as I just kept walking to my vehicle and did not turn around but it did drive home to me that shoulder holsters do not conceal well/

How practical is a shoulder holster in Florida?

(And why the frick is it that we don’t have open carry here?)

As a proud member of FROZEN SHITHOLE GANG, it’s really only going to shine if you’re a person who drives a lot, want to carry something big, or if you already wear an outer layer. It doesn’t take much to hide one, and it is supremely comfortable and the biggest chad way to carry, but requires you to think a bit about things before you do.

Worst case, buy one, try it and decide.

Setup definitely matters if you want to conceal with a shoulder holster even with a somewhat thick jacket, it's certainly not the ideal for CC. As well as general fitment and design, I think it's important to have some sort of belt attachment for example, so that it stays stiff and properly positioned directly at your side even when you bend forwards/backwards. Without that I found that while a vest/jacket made it perfectly usable for woods work it was near impossible to avoid tells.

Dont know about florida but where Im at I open carry on my shoulder all the time with a Berretta92 (+1mag in pocket)

Theres nothing thatll you'll find unapealing about it if youre a man, just the weight of the strap and the sweat but it was never enough to soak through to the actual gun, But I also reccomended custom fitting it to you, My Shoulder carry is literally just the holster with a snap and a loop that I sewn cotton onto that would secure itself under ny opposite shoulder; Small but not fatigue causing.
What really matters to me about shoulder carrying is that its still an open carry deterent without the added risk of a belt holster like someone behind you snatching it, and it just looks cooler, Miami Vice and all that.

on final note, in weathers with jackets, its very concealable I might add, even just with a vest.

      Anonymous

      >just the weight of the strap
With mine I put two mags on the opposite side. When loaded it balances out the weight a bit better and I found is actually a little comfier long term. Anyway worth playing around with, leading to:
      >But I also reccomended custom fitting it to you
Yeah this makes a big difference. You can get away without it for certain stuff, and I did initially when I made my own to see if I liked the concept, but having it fit just right really helps.

        Anonymous

in my opinion, its a must to have it custom fit, For me the adjustable sliders snaped when i flexed or bent over and I was only making the best out of a bad situation, but after 30 minutes of sewing I cannit stand by it enough with how it just stays put

And While I appreciate the extra capacity the mags opposite to the gun I personally do not like it, where i am at weather always changes and Im always finding myself in situations with different outfits.
For tanktops I like my straps under them with the holster itself popped out the sleeve, same for vests but windier days I can also just wear rolled sleeves shirt with the straps outside.
I just appreciate the extra mobility and versatility a single strap offers over the magpouch, but if anyone carries a single stack gun I think my tone would change completely.

Yeah some of this comes down to taste for sure. Part of why I think it's well worth doing something cheap and non-custom first, so one can play around with it and see what they need in their own routine. In my usage as well as comfort I've found it very important and helpful to have my belt and back totally free, I have utility belts, PAPR systems and so on that I want to have there, as well as backpacks. And multiple mags have proven to be more helpful then I'd expected, because it's turned out to be quite useful to have both my regular EDC load and frangible on me. Frangible has been quite useful for vermin in certain situations.

So ultimately someone considering one I think should considering trying various cheap kydex adjustable options and/or play around with making some cheap stuff themselves first. Then once they know they like it and what specifically they want in terms of configuration (not just mags but stuff like vertical vs angled) can hunt around for local custom makers.

completely agree anon, Test the waters to see what you like and dive a bit deeper. truth be told I still am using a generic verticle krydex from ebay I got over a year ago. It does its job well, But the plastic, well thats where It failed. If any anons that also sew want to know what I did to fix, I just measured at an angle for my chest (Top left shoulder to bottom right shoulder/pit) and sewn with silk, Basting followed by invisible. If you use a machine, theres no way in hell youll have to worry about snappage, I feel like I could use the damn think like the MP5 scene in diehard without it snapping. Anyways Ill upload a clip and some pics realatively soon like

Meh, half and half. Depends on what you're wearing. Honestly pocket or IWB with a breathable tanktop is the way to go. Cubavera shirts and fishing vests are pretty common down here so it could work, not ideally, but it could work.

Honestly you get used to it. Most places have AC, even to the point that if you're renting you can withhold rent if the landlord doesn't repair it. Theres a decent amount of shade and drink plenty of water.
