How important is physical strength to combat fitness?

Is it really all about cardio and calisthenics? Or is Ukraine doomed now that the world's strongest man is a 27-year-old Lukashenko clone?

Also post OCS prep routines, with chinups plz

Pretty much I was the most out of shape I've ever been in my life when I was getting ready for a 500 DL. Walking up a flight of stairs gets you winded when you're peaked. Be strong, but also cardio.

In my experience unless you’re a machine gunner (big beefy arms required) or ordnance loader for air crew muscles work against you. Sure, have them, but you’re mostly looking for endurance and the ability to function while exhausted. Take the 20 mile ruck required for deployment in the Marines.
Check out Corps Strength, it’s a book written by a Master Guns who did air ordnance and he has some pretty good work outs. Don’t make it all cardio, work in some weights to increase the load your body can work with.

The military is notoriously behind the curve on fitness. The only people who say cardio/calisthenics are people who have neverserved. If you haven’t noticed, this board is populated by manlets and dyels.

Look at the SOF community and how they structured their fitness by hiring a bunch of strength and former pro sports/NFL coaches, with emphasis on weight training and HIIT.
    This is good reading:

      >SOF community
You mean a group of seals that are shilling their books? Having big muscles doesn't mean anything. Whats important is having good cardio and also some basic muscle strength that can allow you to be fit. The military is structured around toning your body rather than having bulky muscles. Do not listen to obvious attention prostitutes like the SOF community.

Confirmed to knowing nothing about fitness. Wanna throw in some other goofy buzzwords like “conditioning” while you’re at it lol?

NSW has their own facility in VA too, same thing structured around lifting + HIIT.

SOF aren't going on patrols or doing grunt work. The military wants you to be able to function on a calorie deficit and to be able to run miles with 100lb gear on

        >SOF aren't going on patrols or doing grunt work.
They’re quite literally the only people in the military doing that work, if you haven’t noticed SOCOM/JSOC was leaned on to do the majority of the heavy lifting over the GWOT.

Black person, most of the work in the military requires more cardio than muscles. Even the most heavy duty shit requires you to have the basic level of tonage on your body to do. Bulking in the military is something extra, majority of SOF that are bulked are taking roids because their lifestyle literally prevents them from bulking up normally. Which is why you see a shitload of SOF taking roids.

Also HIIT is just cardio. It's like saying "strength training is bad" and then recommending drop sets, which is just a specific way to do strength training.

In my mind, a good mix of weights, cardio, and calisthenics is the best for practical fitness. If you are only trying to max your PFT scores just do the exercises that they score lmao

Not a fitness coach or guru but I'm in decent shape. I just make workouts up like this:
"Today I feel like.... upper bodyish w/ cardio"
    >Pull up max x5
    >DB curls x5
    >DB rows x5
    >Push ups x100
    >Jump rope 10 mins w/ rests as needed
    >mow the lawn with push mower
I do it different each time. Keeps it interesting. otherwise I get bored and half ass it lmao. GL at OCS

The slowest and weakest people on rucks are the skinnygays. Every single time.
They run a 12min 2 mile, but as soon as they hit mile 3-4 with 50lbs., they instantly start straggling and getting passed up.
You can watch them on the inclines struggling and wobbling. If they sit down, they can’t get up and have to roll over like a turtle and take a knee to stand, same with the girls.

The chunkier dudes do a lot better, they just huff and puff and sweat more, but the strength is there to move the weight. Skinnygays just don’t have the strength to begin with and you can see the legs and quads giving out.

    >physical fitness in the military
You try your hardest to actually get fit with a mixture of cardio and lifting and get sabotaged at every turn with shit like a new moron running PT every day of the week and no cohesive plan at all.

Completely depends on your job within an organized military force or structure. If you're a tanker being a tall powerlifter or bodybuilder would make it impossible for you to fit into the damn tank, let alone serve as an efficient and speedy crew member. Same for lots of other jobs which give the edge to smaller soldiers.

Now if we're talking about ground thumping, the situation is different. If you're in a static defensive position, then being muscular is ultimately a great thing. You, in theory, will not have to move around too much- you'll have all the right qualities for maintaining, expanding and upgrading a static defensive position or trench. You're not only a great work horse, but also you can pack on extra body armor. Side plates, dick flap, the whole deal.

If you are particularly muscular you could use some weapons that would normally require two men to operate and you will most assuredly have the edge if the worst happens and your day to die an honorable death has finally come. If you were to hide in rubble, ruins, or under some dead bodies maybe and then pounce on a group of enemy soldiers with your bayonet fixed- you would must assuredly have the edge in hand to hand combat. You will die, but it's always good to take a few with you for the sake of slowing down and chipping away at the enemy.

Muscles can carry a lot more gear and body armor. So, they do do something to stop bullets. It's always little twinks and weaklings as well as fat obese lard asses that complain about carrying extra gear.

+ The more developed your physique, the more resistant you'll be to the long term negative effects of carrying lots of gear.

You'll find it important really quickly once they load you up to your body weight in shit. Those that fail to meet expectations but are allowed in anyway invariably end up breaking their joints.
