How hard is it for a regular Russian citizen to legally buy and own an AK? (Or any sort of modern semi-auto, but AKs seem the most appropriate for the question.)

pretty easy. gun license at 21 (used to be 18 but Kerch and Kazan morons went ape) allows you to buy smoothbores that aren't fully automatic. Once a person has a license for 5 years, they are granted permission for rifles (excluding full autos ofc)

hunting, shooting, farming etc all valid and easy reasons to get a gun. just dont be a druggie or criminal

Jesus, you have to be 26 minimum and have owned a non-semi-auto shotgun or literal musket for half a decade before you can have anything worthwhile?

        Anonymous

yes but semi-auto shotguns are legal at 21. however I think magazine capacity for those semi-auto shotguns has been restricted to 5 rounds following the Kazan school shooting. Russia is moronic so it is expected

Yes depoliticised population only occurs after decades of state TV, putinism would never let young people have guns that could threaten rushing Kremlin. Probably have a big crackdown on weapons with all the kids coming back from Ukraine armed, harmed and pissed

Before Kazan you could get a gun with not-rifled barrel (paradox, lancaster rifling), but not anymore.

19 yo goes into a school with a legal semiauto shotgun, kills 10 kids. must be 21 to buy guns now

Only a vatnik would call literal slavery "pretty easy".

        Anonymous

The funny thing is even this slave scheme has become even more limited in the past year. VatBlack folk at first boasted that they could buy semi-automatic AKs and machine guns, not that in some states of the USA, but then FSB decided to ban this option and they already urged everyone to buy guns before the law took effect

iirc while magazine capacity is restricted there is no punishment tied to it so its to really enforced?

Holy shit, I've seen that photo like a hundred times and never noticed it wasn't a real AK. I guess the very idea of the guy who fricking invented it (and is also a former serviceman) posing with airshit was so absurd it never even crossed my mind

Same. But then again, Russia has exceeded my expectations (for worse) so many times in the past few years, this is only a minor adjustment...

Basically impossible for the regular citizen, you need to have connections and pay a shitload of money
    >A survey by the Zircon public opinion research group taken last September showed that 74 percent of Russians did not support the right to bear arms. This number has barely moved since the fall of the Soviet Union. According to the Levada Center public opinion research center, 76 percent of Russians opposed the idea in 1991.
