they lost dozen Leo's against ISIS...I think Germans wanted to sue them for being so fricking bad they damaged German tank reputation

German tanks are shit. Now their defense industry overall is a deadman walking. Their small arms industry will be dead by the 2030s too.

It's true though. South Korea alone is taking their market share.

Turkey captured an area size of Israel losing ~20 armored vehicles in an ATGM-rich environment.

Compared to the Russian armor losses in Ukraine, the Turkish army did insanely well.

        >Is it another paper tiger like Russia?
They are very much like Russia in that they tend to fight like shit unless facing an existential crisis to motivate both soldier and leader alike.

A metal flange fitted to the triggerguard of their G3s that makes it difficult to put your finger on the trigger from any angle but reaching forward while grasping the grip. So they don't flip the rifle around and use their thumb or toe to press the trigger and off themselves.

          >more Turkish soldiers died from suicide than combat in 10 years
Holy frick that is grim, life in Turkey must be harsh.

In 2021, research found that 30,177 active duty American personnel and veterans who served in the military after 9/11 have died by suicide - compared to the 7,057 service members killed in combat in those same 20 years. That is, military suicide rates are four times higher than deaths that occurred during military operations.

The suicide death rate for veterans is the same as non-veterans.

You're basically telling me that a bunch of people who would have killed themselves anyway if the war never happened killed themselves.

The Turkish military is combat proven and actively fights wars since the last decade, and unlike Russia with its declining wares, Turkey has a burgeoning defense industry.

A countries army can only be as stromg as the economy that supports it and turkish economy is absolutely trash currently.

    >but they fight wars
Against middle eastern and african insurgencies that use vietnam era tech and medieval tactics.

    >they have arms industry
So does russia and china, that doesnt help by itself

That being said, nationalism is strong in turkey so motivation to fight against an invading force would be high, they also have so many soldiers that they arent really enforcing conscription even though its mandatory and on top of that the terrain is hell for any invading force.

Overall they would defend themselves better than russia can, ignoring nukes, but they couldnt stage an invasion even as much as russia did.

I imagine myself in Europe, leading my Platoon. Our mission is to stop wh*Te dogs from advancing. We mow down wh*Te dogs but they keep coming. I shoot wh*Te dogs but I run out of ammo so I draw my sword and begin slaughtering wh*Tes, since wh*Tes are way more psychially inferior to me, I slay them by dozens. Then I get shot, but I didn't fall, I kept fighting. Then shot again and again. wh*Tes were shooting me from a distance like the cowards they are. I lie down, facing up to sky and I see KARA BOĞA (Tengri) smiling at me, I smile back… Then I woke up, in africa, my homeland. My BLACK brethen gave me a warm welcome to heaven. I finally made it, I finally made it into heaven..

they projected power to libya. something france and uk couldnt have done together and begged help from obama.

they killed more isis militants in one month than coalition killed in 2 years.

they destroyed 1 3rd of assad's armor in 2 days. they were hitting even motorcycles with smart bombs.

azerbaijan steamrolled armenia with turkish equipment and command. 2 turkish generals were running the operation.

Kind of impressive that, Armenia dug in for 30+ years. They built fortifications, trenches, and bunkers all around the mountainous place yet the Joint Turkish-Azerbaijani command kicked them in 1.5 months.

A similar thing also happened in Afrin, Turkey overrun the defenders in a short span of time. Where US enabled Israel got its ass kicked by Hezbollah in a very similar geography

The air force used to be good but it's aging badly, and they sacked a lot of pilots after the 2016 "coup" attempt, and they haven't recovered since. Not to mention the F35 fiasco. Good enough against Kurdish smugglers.
The navy's only purpose is the pissing contests with the Greeks so it's sufficient at best. Their OHPs are modernized well.
The army, well conscript armies tends to be a shit. Turkey have been moving away from conscripts, now you can pay a sizable sum to convert your mandatory service into a one-month course in which you fire three (3) G3 shots. Otherwise they have a lot of mountain troops, plenty of tanks, artillery, APCs, and since recently MRAPs.
Turkey's biggest asset is their hilariously defendable geography, in a defensive scenario they don't have any neighbors who could do shit and no I'm not trying to summon the Greeks. Overall it's a decent force with lots of asterisks for local force projection. But does any of this really matter when the lira is going the way of Venezuela
