how good is an ebike for my area?

how good is an ebike for my area?

i live in a ruralish area in a town surrounded by a bunch of roads that lead to dirt roads and other cool natural spots.

the problem is the posted speed 55 and you can’t legally ride an ebike on those roads. will anyone really care or notice?

Are you disabled, old, decrepit? I f you have functioning legs with knees that bend, there is no reason to lug a heavy battery and engine on your bike.

      >a heavy battery and engine on your bike.
The battery and engine more than negates the additional weight. As long as you don't run out of power

I'm sure you can go 20 miles a day without getting gassed out

Anyone should be able to ride 50 miles a day on a regular bike.

A posted speed of "55" - whatever the hell that means (probably mercan because their education system) is going to be way fucking higher than any legal ebike is. beyond what they can produce you're looking at electric motorcycles, which is a completely different thing.

if you can legally and safely use trails, do it. but don't be a slow moving vehicle on rural roads. it puts yourself at immense risk.

55 mph is 88.5 km/h. It's short hand for "highway speeds." And most highways in NA don't allow bikes. OP knows his ebike won't do 55mph, but he wants to use the roads anyway.

I personally hate ebikes, but I acknowledge that they are better then motorbikes and cars and at least the users are getting outside.

OP, your answer is to get the eeeeebike and use secondary roads where biking is legal. Also, get on your local council and campaign for more bike lanes and bike paths.

OP stated that the town he lives in is "surrounded" by cars going 55. He won't be able to get to where he can reasonably use it, unless he plans to walk it - provided that his route is walkable.

Do Americans really forbid bikes on roads without building a bike lane/path next to them?

You can ride a bike on rural roads but it is obviously dangerous.

Why would it be "obviously" dangerous? Are Americans bad drivers?

I am a Europoor was on vacation Roadtrip in America. You guys overtake on the right but otherwise okay.

Anyways idiot if you have only a couple centimeters/ inches between you and a moving 2000kg car, on a road that was designed only for cars, it will get dangerous anywhere on earth

I'm sure there are laws regulating safely overtaking bicycles on such roads.

it's really not dangerous, far safer than biking in a city
as long as the roads have a 2-3 foot shoulder it's fine
rural chads only despise road bikers with race bikes and lycra, if you're riding a mountain ebike to go exploring I doubt any one will road rage you

op if you want to go more than 30-40ish miles round trip, get a gas bike/scooter like this guy says. unless you're really prioritizing being quiet, ebikes are a gateway drug to gas bikes that get 60+mpg.
      t. owns 2 ebikes and a gas bike

Pretty much identical use case to a normal bike, just less effort and quicker. Boomers hate people for wanting to take care of their knees. Ebikes are functionally better than normal bikes. You can always build your own with any mountain bike, it's not cheap but mid-drive ebikes have some real power and aren't too hard to build.
