    >MAXXPRO DASH
That one doesn't have CROWS, so it's meh for combat. Good against IED's but not much else. Very reliable compared to most of the other MRAPS, good suspension and plenty of power.

Yeah, it's a piece of shit. The cat C7 engine is gutless and the armor is basically vaporware.

RG-31, RG-33, Cougar, Buffalo, Maxxpro are all good. I don't know about any of the new OshKosh stuff.

Do you know of any cases in which a MAXXPRO saved lives that would have been lost? I’ve heard that MRAPs in general were a big life-saver against IEDs.

        Anonymous

Lots. It has bolted armor but works really well. The original maxxpro and the + had straight axles that were easier to replace, but it handled like shit. Usually the suspension gets blown off and they sit there until they're dragged back to the wire. The suspension seats, floor padding, life saving/injury mitigation tech was pretty well implemented by the time the Dash came out. They have pretty solid armor and the best doors to not get your fingers chopped off with; they put pneumatic cylinders to open/close them.
It's basically an International dump truck chassis with an MRAP body. Somehow a lot more reliable and powerful than the civilian versions from my experience, though.

You probably have 1000 hours on Arma 3. I’m impressed. Crows is dogshit. You can’t smell or hear shit outside your truck. A gunner is typically the eyes and ears of the vehicle, so it’s counter productive to be looking at a screen for hours on end with no stimulus.

Imagine if you will, a bright ass screen in a pitch black truck with a shitty little Nintendo joystick. The tech is cool, but it’s attached to a human brain that Requires Nicotine, Caffeine, Porn, Water, Food, etc. Without the stimulus of the senses, the ‘gunner’ becomes bored to put it plainly. It’s a brain-melting screen that provides cool capabilities, only when you are already being shot at.

Makes perfect sense. I can see the appeal of a cupola. I liked locking onto mice and haji trucks with thermal.

Also, there is a disconnect from your spacial awareness. Sitting up top you feel more connected to the environment. Point and Click adventure would be better if you had the option to also use a real deal turret, alongside the CROWS stream, instead of a complete replacement.

I'm trained on every single MRAP in theatre in afghanistan, was an inspector / acquisitions for the US. Govt. I know all of their strengths and weaknesses. I wouldn't be caught dead in a M-ATV or Bushmaster.

            Anonymous

Problem with the American vehicles is the gun turret stick way too high up. Good way to be seen miles away. Survivability doesn't matter anyways when most modern armies can take out all vehicles or tanks. Yes this is true. Bushmaster does the job.

              Anonymous

The CROWS system makes that irrelevant. When combined with the boomerang (immediate shot acquisition to return fire) it's pretty lethal and having it up high is a good thing. Gunner sits inside and uses a joystick. If someone shoots at you, it picks up where the shot came from and you can immediately return fire. Picrel

Survivability matters when it comes to small arms fire. If any schmuck with a machine gun can take you out in your armored vehicle you might as well be in a Humvee. The armor on a maxxpro / RG / BAE mrap is twice as thick as a bushmaster.

              >No good reason
stopping rifle bullets is good reason.

Because we nicked a really good idea from the Afrikaans early, and produced a vehicle that by all accounts people still lust after twenty years later.

It has the exact hull shape of the afrikaans mine-clearance machines.
              >lust after
that's why the only people that bought it were the dutch, right? And the company was bought out? Meanwhile tens of thousands of other brands were purchased and used... You'd think if they were lusted after people would actually buy them...

The bushmaster does that, easily. Soldiers are completely protected from small arms fire. If you honestly think that isn't the case, the usual bullshit around American procurement occurred.

Many more than eight were delivered, which you could easily have found out.

The Ukes, The Dutch, the Indonesians (They actually make them under license), New Zealand, The UK unofficially, I think there are one or two others but those are off the top of my head. We leased a bunch in the middle east IIRC.

                They're all good choices...

Husky looks like a combination maxxpro and MATV... def a Navistar truck.
US should have picked that one instead of MATV

Foxhound looks like a RG-31, south africa uses those very steep hull designs. Hard to get in/out of but they are safest to get blown up in.

Mastiff and ridgeback is an upgraded Cougar, which was the best US made mrap.

Wolfhound is a modified Buffalo, which are practically indestructable, made by same company as Cougar.

Panther looks like a frickin' up-armored Hummer H2 made in italy, looks like a piece of shit.

                Mine rollers

Several have been knocked out over the years, but not once has someone died in them. I'd say they're doing their job well.

It looks just like the mine-clearing machines they have in SA, or a knock-off of a casspir. There were a couple in Bagram still clearing old russian mines.

Meme tier. Not actually what UA need right now across so much terrain and dynamic frontline. The money would be better served on 79s Toyotas, uparmored LC200s with ringmount and armor cell.

They suck. There's a reason why they are offloading them to every PD in the country for free.

I think it's the electronics. You need a tech to troubleshoot the errors. Which there are many of and will rended it useless in the interim.
The solution for military vehicles is less electronics. Actually all vehicles. Electronics will render your car useless because a fuse/sensor tripped somewhere.

Well yeah, PDs are scooping them up and don't even know how to maintain them because they love LARPing. Anyways, the U.S. kept ordering more and more for middle east shenanigans, and then we stopped doing middle east shenanigans. These things are tank food. RPGs can pen them. Not useful for the new "near-peer" LARP we're going for, so they've been ebay'ed off like last month's plate carrier on /gq/.

Maxxpro actually had the least number of problems out of all of them.. never had a single transmission failure (standard Allison push-button) or major engine failure... sometimes had the Eaton transfer cases not engage but that's about it. It's common stuff, and the -24 manual will tell you how to fix anything. Really comes down to the people working on it, they're pretty simple and other than the suspension, everything is shared with common trucks on the road.

Pretty much but it's the PD's own fault.
RPG cages worked, they're just awkward. They're fine for anything your average mutt could throw at it protection wise... although if you were being attacked by a rogue officer in one, you'd want to shoot it above the front tires from the side, theoretically speaking.

I assume you can't just shoot the tires?

No, they've got solid rubber inserts. Would just slow it down a little. They've got built in inflation capability as well that would handle a slow leak.

Pretty sure I've seen more images of these things parked and/or broken than actually in the field. Your local police force uses your tax dollars to buy these things from surplus just to intimidate the people they're supposed to protect.

M-ATV would be good if they had better armor instead of the stick-on lightweight composite shit, and they weren't so fricking slow. With RPG nets on, they can't get out of their own way; and the transmission is not as good as the one in the maxxpro, even though they're both Allisons.
Gale banks was working with OshKosh on their latest vehicle, putting a Duramax in it so it'll hopefully improve a lot. The C7 is just absolutely gutless.

Because we nicked a really good idea from the Afrikaans early, and produced a vehicle that by all accounts people still lust after twenty years later.

Hey moron. US soldiers dying in droves and making headlines is how you lose support for the war and lose re-election/impeached which is why the US armed forces now does everything it can to minimalize casualties after Vietnam.

This is really deluded. It took the US longer than it took the Afrikaans to respond to IEDs, and involved the summary global humiliation of the defence secretary, twice. Never mind the US didn't bother to learn from the Afrikaans until nearly thirty years later. The Bushmaster's deployment was the third humiliation, with Australians in airconditioned comfort in theatre appropriate transport.

The ADF definitely has it's problems, but please don't memoryhole how the US routinely treats its soldiers and Veterans

Lmao moron...they don't care about the soldiers, they care about the money spent training them and transporting them and the money they will pay out if KIA...

Every US milgay that dies in CZ, FOR ANY REASON, the USA government pays out 500k to their family. Frick, they pay out 400k if you have a nice day or OD or DUI yourself CONUS too...

imagine if they'd been in a fricking HMMWV, they'd be bale to fit what was left of them in a matchbox. But hey obviously because it can't shrug off a daisy chained IED capable of throwing a 15 ton vehicle in the air like its in a fricking video game it's worthless

It held together... Literally what they're designed for. Looks like the rear ramp came off, but if they were strapped in, they're prob ok.
That's gotta be a couple stacked AT mines. I've seen other vehicles hit those and have the floor where the ceiling used to be, I'm not going to say which.

Go to 4th of july event in my local small town in Utah
Watch parade its mostly families at first with their homemade floats and kids on scooters and stuff waving flags
Then the parade turns full blown dystopian when the cops roll down the road in the parade in one of these with 10 cops on their motorcycles
Pretty embarassing to do that shit on independence day
It was a blatant show of force and the worst part is people ate it up.

I'm pretty sure the issue was that the shocks sucked, way too small for the weight. It had the same suspension as the others, but bounced around like a motherfricker. Only one that had enough power to actually spin those big ass michelins..

Effectively unarmored against anything with something more than a .50 cal MG as a weapon. A bit prone to flipping and are useless for anything other than easy off road (too heavy not enough wheels). Fair against mines which drives it's design and raises the bar needed to kill people with mines to a point that pushes them into a point of limited economic value.
