you're correct, it's not a bulletproof vest because it can't stop bullets

Yeah but TWO, count ‘em 2, couldn’t stop a single rifle round. Do you want to try that cope again?

      Anonymous

Why would you even issue just a flak plate in the current year? It doesn't cost very much to get ceramic, hell people in the US make jerry-rigged level 3 plates from ceramic garden tiles

        Anonymous

        Wider protection effect from shrapnel.
Consider most of the kills in this war is shrapnel from shelling, I'm surprised we're not seeing more flak jackets on ukies.

A ceramic plate will stop flak. A flak plate won't stop an x39 round. And you could make a comparably large ceramic plate to those sheet metal plates with enough tape. It's a joke they're issuing these to soldiers

Oh of course, but that is the Russian military for you and you work with what you have.
It's why "We would win if we mobilised" is the biggest cope, 'cause they would even run out of these things lmao

Unironically this. They arent afraid of russian conscripts, everyone has seen their pathetic state and they have nukes for them anyways. Its former military and trained US citizens that theyre shitting their pants over. Properly trained, armed, equipped, and supplied guerillas on every square mile of the nation. You dont buy TNT to take out an ant hill, unless the "ant hill" is figurative for your fricking house.

We bought the rifle now in anticipation that our peers might be formidable in about 30-40 years, giving us plenty of time to work out the kinks like we did with the M16.

An article said this is probably a police armor produced starting from 1992. It seems that someone opened a warehouse from the time of the first or the second Chechen war

Then again, not really setting the bar very high with 7.62×25mm Tokarev. Not exactly hard to stop even with crap steel if it's at least a plate of that thickness.

Read the bottom of the first patch. It stops pistol calibers. Which it did in the OP vid

            Anonymous

Armor that stops anything is better then armor that stops nothing...
But it's still pretty shit to be sending dudes out with pistol rated armor knowing they will be mostly fighting dudes with rifles.

              Anonymous

No, armor is heavy, wearing shit that won't protect from anything but weapon you won't meet 99.999% of the time is detrimental

                Anonymous

Shrapnel is a big thing in the "special operation" so i still think it holds some value.

I doubt a lot of casualties in this conflict are from rifle ammo. Probably mostly shrapnel

We have seen footage of dudes surviving rifle fire from plates already so yes having rifle rated armor is important, especially because it will help with shrapnel as well.
                Your logic here is faulty.

Not relevant to specifically the plates being discussed but in a war like this and most wars I'll rather have full coverage level III than plates.

                Anonymous

On the one hand i could follow that logic, especially with drone drops and constant shelling.
On the other getting one tapped is just as bad.

I mean, at this point they're rolling out Afghan war and first Chechen war vets, makes sense they'll get that equipment too.

        Anonymous

        And why not?
They've already shot missiles that were last serviced in 1992 at Odesa.
Why not take out small arms or armor from the old stocks. It's better than nothing.

        >from 1992.

Tbh it might not stop bullets, but it could help with fragmentation. The fragments from drone dropped 40mm HEDP for example are pretty light.

Sure, the limbs are still unprotected, but any armor is better than zero armor.

Probably that was the idea to use a sheet of metal because the energy of a pistol caliber is not enough to hurt you too much
