the funny thing is that it comes in the middle of the Marines divesting basically all of their meaningful capabilities and going full islandhopping like we're going back to Iwo Jima for some shit
Force Design 2030 is probably fine, but they aren't meeting the original 2030 goals at all with the final admix, it's thinly veiled downstaffing while everyone else is buying exquisite new toys

If this isn't talking about average PT scores than it's pretty stupid. The Air Force is probably the strongest branch relative to our adversaries because we're the only country that can afford a massive Air Force.

I looked into it and while I'm pleasantly surprised they didn't go for the low hanging woke fruit, their methodology for this """report""" is still disingenuous and is pretty much just "old equipment = bad" without factoring in lifespan, upgrade packages, or doctrinal usage.
The Air Force got a bad grade because most of their airframes are 30+ years old.
Seriously, that's it. I guess I shouldn't expect too much from the galaxybrains that want Trump to go full Reichstag brandverordnung on the federal government if he wins, but god damn if it's too much to ask for just the tiniest bit of nuance.

WTF /k/ told me the F15 was good?!

In all fairness, the F-15C really outlived the reasonably expected service life. They modded those airplanes 100+ times since the 70s. The Frankensteined avionics produced some really weird issues I blame on gremlins who were mad their hiding spots were filled in with computers.

Yeah this is just boomer fearmongering plus unabashed shilling in support of big defense spending.
Like this: Humvees are bad because they're old. JLTVs are good because they're new. They don't care enough to look into why there's still 106,000 humvees still in inventory, the fact that we can't immediately produce 106,000 MRAPs right now and swap out every humvee regardless of variant or mission set means that the Army is weak and America has fallen. (don't tell them who pushed for the military to adopt MRAPs back in the day either...)

There's only one very small portion of the military that actually keeps America safe. The rest is just an elaborate and costly roleplay for the political class and their victims among the poor. We could disband all conventional military forces tomorrow and we'd be safer than we are today because there would no longer be any plausible response to actions against the Unites States other than a nuclear strike.

When you sign a bunch of treaties limiting nuclear and space weapons and countries either ignore them or don't sign them (China especially), you are put at a disadvantage. Now the treaties are expiring.

It's the London Naval Treaty all over again.

I'm guessing we could destroy most country's ability to retaliate without using any nukes so it's mostly meaningless to the US. But how would you enforce it on others besides invading them? I suppose there's sanctions but those only do so much.

I know that this is probably a bait thread but actually skimming it the report seems more reasonable. Its rating the forces ability to sustain a multi-front war while maintaining security commitments, the marine corps gets a better grade because their duties are more limited in scope. The Air Force and Navy get ranked so low because shortages of airframes and hulls.

      Bingo.

The standard is that the US mil must be able to fight two major wars in two theaters and support a minor commitment in a third (or something like that). Which is what HF bases their annual reports on.

if they're imagining a europe/pacific split again they're being completely moronic. the air force only needs to be in one of those theaters then.

The USMC is the second most powerful air force in the world by an enormous margin. Why would they need tanks when they can call in air strikes on anything that needs to get blown up?

Kind of. Their Ukraine position from 2019-22 was all about "We need to make sure Ukraine is as secure as possible against Putin. Trump was just making sure Biden and his son weren't looting the place and supporting corruption that would sap their strength". Then the invasion happened, Trump came out against foreign aid, they deleted all evidence of their previous position from their website, and everyone who had ever said anything remotely pro-Ukrainian was fired.
