            Anonymous

TLAMs can loiter better and have electro-optical sensors that allow real-time battle damage assessment.[6] The Block IVs can be given a new target in flight and can transmit an image, via satcom, immediately before impact to help determine whether the missile is on target and the likely damage from the attack.

Storm shadow has no data link to speak of. And as

My proposal: some form of small and stealthy drone munitions that can penetrate enemy lines, then set down in a remote area. Disperse these across the areas most likely to be a HIMARS launch point, and have a direct line of communication between radar that can detect launches and the drone operators. Upon a launch being detected near the dormant drone, it takes off to track the HIMARS as it repositions, either attacking it directly or relaying where it goes to counterbattery assets.

      Anonymous

Explain how that direct line of communication between the counter battery radar and the drones work now

        Anonymous

The drone operators are in direct communication with the counter vattery, with standing orders between them that any meaningfully suspected HIMARS launch is a priority target they can engage at will. The drone operators can communicate with the embedded drones via a relay operating above Russian lines.

Do I think it would actually work? No.

    A couple of questions.

Was the HIMARS an actual Wunderwaffe for the war because of how it interdicted Russian supply lines and gave their forward commanders nasty cases of explosions? Or would things have played out like they currently have even without the HIMARS?

And how are the Ukrainians going to get around Republicans holding US aid to Ukraine hostage in a clear betrayal to the Ukrainians? Does any other country produce the missiles that the HIMARS uses to use as a stop gap?

      >Was the HIMARS an actual Wunderwaffe for the war because of how it interdicted Russian supply lines and gave their forward commanders nasty cases of explosions?
if not for HIMARS deleting entire ammo depots and command HQs, russians would still be near Kharkiv and firmly holding to Kherson. People seem not to realize how dire May to July 2022 was to the ukie army.

15-18 HIMARS stopped an entire advance of like 400,000

This is America skimping on giving Ukraine the newest ammo, they were only given 90s stock and they're probably burning GWOT stocks now since they weren't used at all

  19. 4 weeks ago
    Anonymous

Only way Russia can deal with this is to spread out assets. HIMARS ammunition is expensive and scarce. By spreading out your munition depots and critical assets, the HIMARS goes from being ultra effective to meh.

The other thing which Russia can do is to jam the GPS guided munitions of HIMARS using electronic warfare. It basically becomes useless then.

It's not possible to use counter artillery since Russian artillery doesn't have that kinda range and accuracy. Nor is it possible to blow up using air strikes since they aren't capable of gaining air dominance.

It's also not worth the effort to use anti-air systems to shoot down HIMARS launched missiles. Deffo not worth using aircraft defensively to shoot down HIMARS missiles either.

Probably long range drone strike. Lancet is getting longer legs. Knowing this the Ukrainans may operate it from an area behind the lines that already had air defense like a HQ.

I would contract North Korea or Chinese to do imagery analysis and start to establish so kind of pattern from where they operate.
