Shit since they're not to the QC of the old ones and don't have the collector's value. Go with something that doesn't have a boomer tax attached to it like a 686.

Aren't they made by CZ now?

I want a Colt Python. I just can't justify the cost.
There is no logical reason to buy a Colt Python in 357 magnum. A 9mm semi auto with 15 round double stack magazines is a more logical choice for ever scenario I have thought about. I would never carry it or pick it up in a home defense situation.
If I bought a Python it would sit in its box as a pretty chunk of metal and I would probably never shoot it.
I still really want one though.

They hold up very well. The metal is strong, it uses the same action (which has been around over 100 years) but with fewer parts and they fixed the timing issue that happened on older ones.
There are new Pythons out there with tens of thousands of rounds of 357. No change in timing, no frame stretching, no loss in accuracy. It's as good as it was OOTB
Old ones could be better, could be worse, they were all hand fit, these are all machined so they're much more consistent.

      >can't justify the cost
      >no logical reason
      >I still really want one
Why are people like this? You say you want one so buy one.
I used to have this attitude and it sucked. I sold my 92FS cause my Glock made more sense. I missed it sorely. I bought a 686 and took it to the range and had shit tons of fun.
If you have a desire to fill a practical need, whether it's defense, hunting, sporting, precision, etc. then fill it and move on to just buying whatever the frick.
Guns can be had just cause they're cool, you like the way they look, they were in that one movie/game you enjoyed as a kid, they're fun to shoot, etc.
There need be zero justification to buy a gun other than you simply want to (and you can afford it)

Honestly 686s and gp100s are so good, unless you really REALLY want something even better, I'm not sure it's worth it.

Agreed. Unless you want something really goofy, fancy, or expensive like a S&W TRR8, Manurhin, or Korth there's no point in not just getting a bog standard 686 or GP100

Those 686s are really nice and about $500 less. It’s more of a jealously thing. My father willed his Colt to my brother and I’m a bit jealous. I thought we’ll frick it, I’ll buy my own

I haven't shot one but I've finger fricked a few. They're nicer than Smiths and a whole lot nicer than Rugers.
Are they worth the additional cost? depends on how much money $1500 is to you. don't listen to the morons saying "no collector value" you just gotta wait 40 years until they stop making them again for that to kick in

Nobody is saying they are better (except the poster about manhurin), but the GP100 is an excellent gun. Same with the 686s. The python is better, but I didn't go for one because I just wanted something nice and the extra money didn't do anything for me.

All of Ruger's revolvers are ruined by the ugly, huge text on it.

I held off. People get weird about that picture.
Kimbers are also part of the
          >great options below 1000 bucks
Group. Really it's a field of firearms that is great to get into. Even a lot of the cheaper options are pretty good, like the taurus lines.

No point in buying one over a Ruger or S&W. Even a Kimber or Taurus would be a better buy

I posed the same question to /k/ a few months ago.
I go to a local gunshop near me that has sold guns to literally four generations of my family.
The owner is in his 80s now, he first met me when I was like five, his wife used to give me cookies on the sly when I'd come in with my old man. So whenever I go in, he gives me special prices on things.
A few months back he told me he'd give me one for $1200 just to get one of them out the door, because he's got ten and hasn't sold a single one.
He said in his opinion they're fine pistols, but he shot one alongside his own personal 70's Python and they're just not as smooth, so he was kind of disappointed.
If you can wait a few more months to build up some more disposable income I'll let you know, I'm probably gonna grab one from the old guy just because.

Nu-Colts are better than the old snake guns were by miles, anyone who says otherwise has not used both or is regurgitating someone else’s statement. Older models all had timing issues over time and some just had bad triggers and even worse timing (original anaconda).
There’s a reason you only see (l)nib old snake guns being sold, and it’s because they looked better than they shot.

No gun Smith currently makes is worth buying over a nu-colt, if you’re on a budget just go with the Ruger.

686s are gay and for manlets. If you want a smith be patient, just wait and find a 27-2.

I have a nu one. I have shot both old and nu pythons. I can say, yes the old one is a bit more smooth, but the new ones are allegedly made with stronger material. Trigger is still miles better than other revolver brands I've shot.
