How do I carbonate water at home?

How do I carbonate water at home? I don't think I can get a sodastream because of the canister restriction in airports. Anybody knows how can I set up using a CO2 tank?

I have the exact set up as this guy, except mine is a bigger 10lb tank. It's very easy. I bike my tank to the welding supplier once a year to refill it, 50 bucks

Sounds good but I don't know if it ends up being worth it. Coke price is on the rise here, it costs 70 cents a can now and 56cents when bought in bulk, even though just 2 years ago it costed 40cents at bulk. Last time I checked it costed $15.30 the 24 pack. The cost of the set up would be about 15 times the current cost of the cokes. Looks worksome as well. It would end up being worth it in a couple of years of use. I still haven't looked at buying the syrups so there's that cost as well.

Most welding supplies stores refill SodaStream CO2 canisters as well for half the price

Yeah, just get an adapter from fleabay and a co2 tank from a welding gas supplier. It's easy, I have one set up for couple of years now.

Or just get a normal regulator (your tank should really have one already) and corny keg fitting and use a $20 carbacap from the home brew shop. Then if you ever want to actually get a corny keg and home brew you’re set up plus you can just use normal soda bottles with a threaded cap and not those homosexual soda stream bottles that make you look like a fat sad receptionist

As other posters have said, just get a kegerator.

I built one with an old mini fridge and a 2.5 gallon corny keg, a 5lb CO2 tank that costs ≈$30 to fill at the local welding supply place, (with food grade gas), will make 30-40 gallons of seltzer depending on the desired carbonation level, the economy gets way better with a 20lb tank. using a Sodastream with a bulk fill adapter will be much less efficient since you waste a ton of gas overpressurizing the bottle to carbonate it quickly.

If you are going for actual soda, I would recommend you add the syrup separately and keep the system on pure water, it'll mean there's way less mess to deal with.

Just use terpenes you fat frick. You're REPLACING soda from your diet not making it for cheaper so you can drink it straight from your big brown couch.

What the frick are you talking about moron. The whole point of the thread was getting coke cheaper.

Just get a seltzer bottle. It uses CO2 cartridges.

That seems like 100x more expensive than a 20# tank

I would like to find the water flavoring cheeper in bulk. It's ~$4 for a 1oz container. That plus the CO2 you might as well just buy the aluminum cans from the store.

There's water carbonators that use bicarbonate and critic acid.

How does that work? Do you put the pills and acid, then the gas is stored somewhere and pressurized?

Sodastreams has mods you can buy that let's you use third party co2 canisters.
Just make sure you get it refilled with food grade co2. Otherwise it might taste like shit.

I wonder, is there a machine or a method to chill a glass of syrup mixed soda down to 0 degrees instantly for business use? I like the velvety texture of coke at freezing point, could you otherwise carbonate the ice from slushy machines?

Try dipping it in liquid nitrogen. If that's not fast enough go for liquid helium. It was years ago and I don't remember what he had, but the instructor dipped a tennis ball in it and threw it at the wall and it shattered like glass.

Would that even be viable for a drink stand? Wouldn't the drinks have to cost like $7?

Get a beer carbonator kit from AE plus a co2 tank from a local supplier.

Fill a bottle to an inch below the cap, put in the fridge to cool, when it's cold attach carbonator and shake for 20sec keeping the bottle horizontally, done.
