How did ISIS manage to capture a city of 2.5 million in a few days while Russia has failed at capturing similar sized cities in Ukraine and is taking weeks to seize small towns in the Donbass?

ISIS was motivated and had accurate track of their own logistical SNAFU. Russian troops are raped, beaten, scared little boys being bussed off to die, the ISIS fighter at the very least believed in what they were doing at first, and acted voluntarily out of their desperation. The russians also don't even know what they're already out of at the start of a given war.

Ive read somewhere that ISIS was already abducting people way before their proclamation of being a caliphate. Like officials who opposed them were abducted and killed or some shit. By the time they declared themselves, there were none left to stand up against them, at least in the cities that they have a huge presence in.

Prior to Mosul they're already a force to be reckoned with. There was a slew of videos of targeted ISIS drive-by on Iraqi gov officials and military checkpoints back then. I recall /k/ used to have discussions about it once in awhile everytime Iraq post-America was brought up.

Defeated, primarily, by the USA. Someone Russia hasn't had to face.

Russia is Subsaharan Africa-tier; ISIS are Arab-tier.

Unmotivated Iraqi army (because Sunni-Shia didn't want to fight, both for their own reasons. Sunnis because ISIS were theirs, and Shia because they don't want to defend Sunni areas with their lives) melted away in the face of opposition.

This. Faith is one of the most powerful weapons available to man.
      >"Faith is the soul of any army; be it vested in primitive religion or enlightened truth. It makes even the least soldier mighty, the craven is remade worthy and through its balm any hardship may be endured. Faith ennobles all of the worlds the soldier undertakes be they so base or vile, and imparts to them the golden spark of transcendent purpose."

Literally all their rank and file POWs were saying the same thing. Officers knew, but Kremlin glowBlack folk assured them that its gonna repeat of 2014 Crimea landgrab. Thats why their forces were so unprepared to sustain their operations during the first month, with lack of fuel, food, proper clothing and most likely even the backup plans and objectives.

ISIS were Nazis *with* the prevailing majority in the territory they want to rule..
The Russians are Nazis *against* the prevailing majority.

ISIS offered the majority to make slaves of the minority.
Russia offers themselves to make slaves of Ukrainians.

It's like asking why the Republican party is popular with conservative white Christian males while ISIS isn't.

      > Shia vs Sunni, been at it for a millennia
It shouldn't have taken this many posts to point out that getting the majority to hate on the minority is ezpz compared to taking over a country. Esp when you give them several years warning.

1.ISIS was composed of intelligent, educated, dedicated men that prized honor, loyalty, honesty and results above all else
    2. they spent years/decades planning out this and other scenarios in meticulous detail, learning and adjusting from experience and current events
3.They stepped into a power vacuum due to Arab culture being fundamentally irregular and unstable and having very weak central institutions

Iraqi troops fled because both they and the locals hated their government and initially welcomed the idea of being ruled by their co-religionists.

Ukrainians, on the other hand, do not want to be Russian, even the ones in the east who actually speak Russian. The entire military goal of this campaign, annexing Novorossiya, was meant to be accomplished by uprisings covertly organized by the FSB just like in Donbas, but they couldn't find enough locals with pro-Russian views to make anything happen, and even in Donbas the Russians had to start sending in their own forces because the uprising there was in danger of being crushed. That's why they had to resort to direct invasion.

Iraq didn't have a real army for one thing, just a paper one.
They were doing the same thing the Afghan army did. The officers and bureaucrats would pretend they had a large force on paper, then embezzle all the salaries of the soldiers they didn't have, and sell the equipment on the black market... to ISIS in some cases.

    ISIS was backed by ZOG.
