Somewhere out there, there is a bizarro parallel universe where the Korean War has been hot this whole time. Alternate universe PrepHole is currently talking about the ongoing 73rd Battle of Pyongyang after the Sino-Norks (or snorks) "feinted" their way out of the 39th Battle of Seoul in June. The United Nations has been pushed back into the sea three times now, only to later launch amphibious invasions. Beijing has been captured seven times. The only thing keeping the Korean peninsula from being a solid carpet of UXO is that even dud shells go off when they hit landmines.

    It was literally a draw.

Not quite the original border but the current border overlaps it. The original border was the 38 degree latitude line.
And yes, the Korean War was a wild ass ride
        >NK blitzes SK. SK pushed all the way back to Busan
        >US reinforcements finally stabilize the situation
        >Inchon Invasion, NK runs like hell to avoid World's Worst Encirclement
        >NK runs scared to CN border
        >CN starts shouting warnings and secretly moving troops.
        >NK still not surrendering so US keeps chasing
        >CN has Entered the War
        >US gets pushed back all the way passed the 38th Lat
        >US starts bombing CN logistics

MacArthur was the kind of guy where if he was right, he could carry you to victory. But if he ever got something wrong, it would be a fuckup of gigantic proportions.

Despite bungling the defense of the Phillipines, he did pretty well for most of the Pacific War and the landings at Inchon were probably his magnum opus. He unfortunately erased all of those accomplishments by not heeding literally everybody's warnings that China would intervene in NK, and then responding by throwing a tantrum and threatening to use nukes when China predictably intervened.

north koreans were destroyed as a fighting force by 1951
even after the chinese offensive drove the allies back to the 38th parallel, the north koreans were unable to rebuild their forces in any meaningful manner and only committed a few infantry divisions for the rest of the war

the north koreans were the only real losers of the war, if anything
status quo antebellum was a net benefit to the south koreans and the allies(the retention of SK) and the chinese (they prevent a US-aligned country at their border) but an abject failure to the north koreans (failure to get any south korean territory)

America was winding down their armed forces so they weren’t able to use their human wave tactics of swarming tanks like they did in europe

      Anonymous

They never used swarm attacks with their tanks
US tactical tank doctrine is basically identical with the UK and germany, which is to fire and maneuver using two elements to get a positional advantage over the enemy

Operational doctrine was similar as well
The goal was not to swarm the enemy but to concentrate armored forces into a narrow point to force their way through before maneuvering to engage the enemy strategic depths
The goal was in effect more for to maneuver into a good position to threaten the enemy with an encirclement rather than to directly engage enemy forces and destroy them

Best seen in operation cobra, where allied armored divisions performed a textbook breakthrough and maneuver that trapped german forces

Or would you rather hear about the time that a M4 sherman killed 3 tigers in under minute?

Main use of an armored division is not to close in with an enemy unit and saturate them
Its to create breakthroughs and maneuver into a position where they can threaten the enemy and force a response

Sherman’s could only create breakthroughs when they sent in hundreds of them

              Anonymous

A human wave attack is when you deliberately send attackers with no support with the intent to close distance and engage the enemy at point blank

This is literally not a tactic ever used by the US in WW2
Tanks would fire and maneuver with the intent to flank the enemy at the tactical level
And at the strategic level would prefer to avoid heavy enemy concentration when attacking in favor of maneuvering to cut them off

Which is what happened at the above mentioned operation cobra
But was also pulled off at arracourt where they were able to successfully break up and destroy dozens of enemy panthers by flanking and ambushing them

              Anonymous

Would now be a good time to point out that Shermans dabbed on German big cats in 1943-1945 and on T-34s in 1950-1953, thus making the Sherman the supreme big dick tank of the era?

      >USA general mcfuckface considers ending the world over this humiliation
How would the world have ended if the US had used nukes? If McArthur had gotten his way, North Korea and China would be the giant radioactive wastelands and the US would have been completely fine. Those countries didn't have nukes back then. In fact, even Russia barely had any functioning nukes at the time of Korea, and certainly not a way of dropping them on the US. For around 15 years after WW2, the US legitimately had the power to completely subjugate the world under its boot if it had wanted to as it was the only country with enough nukes to actually use them full on militarily rather than just as a warning with Japan (as we didn't HAVE really any other nukes other than the 2 we dropped in 1945).

        >North Korea and China would be the giant radioactive wasteland
Probably not even, since US nuclear stockpiles at the time were still small, the H-bomb didn’t exist yet and having to drop them conventionally with B-29s would be a bitch because of migs. Nevertheless large swathes of North Korea and major Chink cities would be toast.

They didn't, the US easily accomplished its stated objective and discarded secondary ones because they weren't worth going to full war footing over, at least in the President's opinion.
