How dangerous is a 22lr bullet that failed to go off?

>Have a 22 that failed to fire
>Eject it, pick it up, and load it back into gun
>Friend says I'm stupid and should just walk away from it cus it could go off at any time

This true? Should I be more careful? Cus these fucking piles of shit fail to go off far too often, should got something center fire.

Rimfire primers can hangfire. Should prob just throw them on the ground next to other shooters

There is a purpose for it for pocket carry with 10+ rounds. Won't find that with 9mm. 22 is just completely useless

what 380 pocket carry pistol has 10+ rds?

LCP Max. Comes stock with 10 round mag or you can get a 12 round mag and adds maybe a quarter inch of length. Either way dissapears in your pocket

.380 is good for weaker people who couldn’t handle the recoil from a 9mm, my gf carries a 380 after trying a 9mm subcompact that had too much recoil and the gun was too heavy for her to easily carry around all the time

.380 recoil in a pocket pistol has way more whip to it than a 9mm subcompact.

hangfires can happen. I'd say just wait a few seconds to be sure, but you don't need to be massively paranoid about it

Pistol club I used to attend (yuro) had a box full of misfired .22 you could try to shoot for free, iirc most of them fired as long as the pin hit far away enough from the first mark

Rimfire just fundamentally can fail to fire more often, what makes it so fucking cheap is that the primer is just squirted in there, and the rim gap is so narrow sometimes there are voids. Happen to slap one of those and there physically just isn't primer in that spot and it won't go off. Like, sure, give it 15 seconds if you want, but no there is nothing wrong with just sticking it back in there and trying again. Usually it'll work second time around hitting it somewhere else. Advantage is that it's so fucking cheap.
    >centerfire
On a personal defense gun or serious hunting? Of course. But you can get an entire round of 22lr for less than a lot of centerfire PRIMERS. The cost advantage for plinking fun and small varmint blasting is massive.

during manufacturing they spin the case after putting the priming compound paste in, it's supposed to press the compound into the rim evenly all around, but yeah it does get voids occasionally and occasionally they line up with the firing pin and the misfire happens. Just like the other posters say, just try it again with the firing pin in a different spot and it will probably work. If not, what I do is bend the bullet out of the case with my bear hands, toss the bullet and gently set the case down sideways on a rock or something, spilling just a bit of powder outside the case mouth and then I light it with a lighter, you get a fun little fizzy flame and then a POP and the case goes flying 30 feet or so.

The standard procedure is that if the gun fails to fire after you pull the trigger you keep it pointed downrange for several seconds in case it's a hangfire.

    >Should I be more careful?
You're not under time pressure so only making it more dangerous by opening it up before waiting a little bit. If you're planning on using rimfire to protect your life just get a more expensive load that runs well in your gun. .22 defensive ammo will be more reliable than any cheapo pocket pistol if you make sure it runs well in it.
