If you have an actual shot at being a pilot, then you'd also know 10 years as one is not a problem. >guys I don't know if I can do 10 years as part of the biggest scam in the military
Because when it's all over, you can look back on 10 years flying a couch and your PrepHole phone shit posting, or you can look back on 10 years of actual lived experience.
But you tell me.
You're going to be working one way or another, so why not spend the time doing cool shit in a fancy plane someone else bought, rather than sitting at a desk somewhere doing shit you don't care about?
Well, like every other impressionable child who ever watched Top Gun, fighter pilot. I wouldn't be happy doing cargo, transport, tanker, or drone piloting. I'd "settle" for helicopter or bomber, though.
and also get cancer

You do not need a college degree to be a pilot in the Army
[...]
Do the smart thing and try to become a Naval Aviator if you want to fly, USAF is buttfrick moronic
>become a Naval Aviator
Why's that? I've heard that Air National Guard is the best way, but also has the most competition.
ANG is definitely the best, and you should drop a packet, but realistically it's pretty unlikely they'll pick you up unless you know someone there with serious pull or you're an absolute stud
I was thinking of joining the Air Force, but 10 years as a pilot is sort of a big commitment.
what kind of degree? i'm getting a computer science degree once my suspension is up and i want to become an AF officer too. probably not a pilot, rather something to do with my education.
>Friend I know enlists >Becomes a mechanic for aircraft in Navy >Seems like a well rounded dude, very intelligent >Remember having the best times at parties with him >Fast forward some time >I moved to another state >He finally is done with the military, haven't heard from him in forever >Recently come back into communication with him, he's moving to my area >Except now he isn't a he >Tells me a long story about how they're trans and have always been telling everyone this >Never heard this in the entirety of knowing him >Does nothing but spout communist trans shit all day every day
What happened to my friend bros...I just want my old friend back. Was it the Navy?

Anon I'm gonna give you the ultimate air force pilot life hack right here.
PLEASE HEED IT
Go guard or reserve.
It may seem weird, but it's the best fricking scam out there. Firstly, You get your plane before even going to pilot training, you don't compete for it like active duty. This is huge because pilot training is a giant frick fest of broken dreams and stress, literally the worst year of your life, and it seals your fate for a decade. Nasty girls and reservists don't gotta worry about that, they just pass traijing and their unit gives them the plane.
Secondly, most of the military bullshit doesn't even apply to you because guard and reserve don't do that nonsense, so PCS, basic daily horseshit etc. just slides off them.
The only drawback is that it depends on the unit if you'll have consistent orders or only have a flying job a few weeks or months at a time. Also it can be competitive as frick and you interview with the unit like a job. if you want fighters those guard units are VERY picky, and if you've never flown a plane then they probably won't take you. Also it's peacetime so even fighter units probably aren't doing anything sexy. If you're fine with cargo or a heavy plane, then there's a lot of options out there but go for what you want
The military is the military, large bureaucratic machine
The army goes rolling along, as it says in the Army song. Shit always rolls downhill
Remember this if and when you enlist and bicker and complain about how bullshit everything is
Don't fall for the so called romance of being enlisted as an infantryman unless you're 100%posistve you want it
Also hijacking this thread, because I'm basically where OP is right now.
Have been wanting to join the AF as a pilot and have been in contact with a recrooter (he kinda sucks and is pretty unresponsive, but planning on joining about 2 years from now, so no rush), and he gave me a medical form to fill out, and I was wondering if I should lie on it (im missing a nut, not cancer related or anything) and just ask forgiveness if someone finds out?
Other than that, I'm a pretty prime pilot candidate, would it be worth it just to ask for a waiver instead?
Anyways, how can I make my application as appealing as possible? I assume that the more shit I have going for me, the better. I was planning on: >PPL >IFR >Multi >Commercial >CFI rating
Anyways, I also need to ace the AFOQT. Does anyone know of any accurate practice tests? Not sure if the random stuff I'm finding on google is a reasonable representation of what's found on the actual exam.
I don't think not having a nut would be a major problem (???). Anyways, just go for the waiver. A nut exam almost always included in any physical.
You're going to be working one way or another, so why not spend the time doing cool shit in a fancy plane someone else bought, rather than sitting at a desk somewhere doing shit you don't care about?
Yeah that makes sense. But at the same time your ass belongs to the government for 10 years.
Getting more than your PPL and maybe instrument rating is a waste of money unless you intend on flying on the civilian side imo. You’d essentially be burning tens of thousands of dollars for something that will give you a marginally better chance of getting selected, in order to purchase ratings that the military will pay you to get. Start applying as soon as you finish your PPL, maybe sooner.
I'd want an IFR anyways, if only for myself. The rest, I don't know. I do want to give myself the best shot possible, but wasting 10's of k's kinda sucks.

They're all insane but the coast guard. and you're not gonna be a pilot unless you sign up with a college degree and even then its iffy
I’m about to get a college degree and my dad said he’s pay for a private pilot’s loiscence, which I’d imagine would give me a leg up.
What kind of pilot are you wanting to be?
Cargo, bomber, fighter?

Its alright. Depends on your priorities. It's definitely not ideal for starting a family, but its doable.

Do not lie on it, they'll find out. A flight doc wouldn't ground you for 1 nut btw.
I wonder if 1 nut is actually more beneficial for a fighter pilot. High G has less effect.
Aight, thanks anons. I wasnt going in with the intention to lie about it, I just heard of some people being DQ's on account of missing one, so I wanted to make sure.
Air National Guard
Air Force and CoastGuard are the least shit. Go Officer. Finishing 5 years in the Army this year.

Army signalgay here, it's alright. I kinda want to go flight warrant but I also really enjoy the enlisted side of it all.
>11.5 year ADSO
Under no circumstances should you go AD WOFT, go guard and enjoy life.
Should I join the military? I'm trans btw.
Going to ask a question too, what’s the best way to get a slot for SNFO?
