Homeless anon here. Been out for a few months about the start of summer/spring. Was living in a cramped 2 man tent doing it balls rough to a 4 man tent and now I have chairs an airbed 2 stoves and a bunch of battery lights and solar lights,a few duvets and pillows and 2 sleeping bags for maximum comfiness so I now feel like a king despite being a hobo. I don't see my situation getting any better and it's already getting colder. What is essential to be able to survive camping during winter? I don't want to be another homeless guy freezing to death. I'm thinking the best course of action is as much space between me and the ground and as much layers as possible and building some shitty house around it but that's for another board. Come up with something more original than have a nice day or get a job aswell.

    I just sack whacked OP.

I would suggest more layers = more warmth and yes get off the ground. Even if that means filling a sheet up with grass and sleeping on it.

I want to tear up the ground I'm on and cement it . Then I could throw down a carpet inside for comfiness. I could use bricks or a pallet for under the bed. I've been thinking hard and would just like to see what insight anons have to offer.

Has anyone been out over winter before?

What area do you live in? Is snow and rain a concern?

First off, get a job. Second, mylar blanket. Put it between the rainfly and mesh of the tent. That'll hold quite a bit of heat in

that's not going to keep any heat in and it's going to cause awful condensation not to mention constant noise.
only place you should be putting insolation in a tent is under your bed.

Make sure you have clothing and sleeping bag suitable for the Irish winter.
Get thermal baselayers. Even cheap ones are better than nothing. Not only do these keep you warm but they keep your clothes from getting dirty from your body.
Get a couple of sets and you can rotate them and wash them (they are much easier to wash and dry than clothes) and will greatly reduce how often you need to wash your clothes.

But really you should get a job and move into a house.

if you are far enough from people maybe build somekind of lodging, might be illegal but trees grow on forests, so all you need is some time, youtube tutorial and nails

Fricking have a nice day, fricking homosexual, you're moron if you started to care about winter only in FRICKING OCTOBER!!! Freeze to death, motherfricker. You know what? I think your homosexual ass thread is larp. No hobo is so moronic as not to care about upcoming winter. You fricking suck, your life sucks and this entire thread is a farming shit for (you)s.

Start writing a journal so you can be the next mcandless.

Alternatively do what most hobos do and move south for the winter. Beg for money and get a cheap bus/train ticket. There is a reason you don’t see homeless people living in the wilderness in winter.

Seriously sounds like you need help, sounds like you have no long term plans and just riding the good vibes because you feel accomplished and can do anything. You can’t, it won’t last, and you’ll fall deeper in the hole if you stay complacent. What state are you in?

I’m in the same position as you anon, albeit in a slightly warmer climate than Ireland. I’ve only been out here for two weeks though. Send me an email @ [email protected] if you want to chat.

I'd find an isolated tree covered area and go underground in a dug out.

Once met a homeless guy who lived next to railroad tracks in Michigan. He found a small concrete bldg 15x15 ft and insulated the whole thing with discarded mattresses. Trapped quail and cooked over a 55 gallon drum . Used marine batteries for light and radio
