the ATF ruled that the sear in the SVD actually isn't a machine gun, and even announced original soviet era SVDs with the sears as C&R and approved all the military KBI imported SVDs with the sears installed.
The HD-18 doesn't have the sear, there is a breakdown video on youtube where someone goes over it.

There are a SHITLOAD of different configurations of which they are sold, wood and polymer, only wood, only polymer, short barrel with flash hider, short barrel without flash hider, long barrel with bayo lug, folding stock etc. My guess has always been that it was to comply with different import laws for different countries but I wouldn't be surprised if it was just russian moronation.

Yeah i did too at first but the prospect of being able to circumvent greedy boomers on gunbroker was too tantalizing so i said frick it and took a chance on them (this was late 2021-ish). And I’m glad i did because they’ve saved me a ton. Apparently the guy/lives right across from the factory that makes of lot of the SVD parts so he’s often able to just walk over there and ask what’s available on your behalf. This is how i scored a bunch of bolt/firing pin parts for super cheap.
