        It's not that they're American.
It's that they're commies, so obviously they fail at everything except causing mass death.

To wear a beret correctly you do have to spend ages shaping it.

Not really. Wet it a bit, roll it up, put it underneath your mattress over night. It'll be 90% done after this.

I can usually do it in one day.

Have a vintage one from early March.

          - Mr Putin, I'm FSB.
          - He wasn't alone.
          - Uh, you don't get to bring logistics.
          - They are not my logistics.
          - Don't worry. No charge for them.
          - And why would I want them?
          - They were trying to grab your airfield. They work for the paratrooper. The beretta man.
          - VEH DEH VEH?
          - *nods*
          - Get em on board, I'll call it in.
          - The invasion plan I just filed with the chiefs of staff lists me, my men, Mr. Putin here but only one of you! First one to talk gets to jump from my aircraft!
          - Who paid you to post Monkey Putin? *bang* He didn't land so good!
          - Tell me about Veh Deh Veh! Why does he wear the beret? A lot of loyalty for a fresh conscript!
          - Or perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before sending them to Hostomel Airfield?
          - At least you can talk. Who are you?
          - It doesn't matter who we are. What matters are our losses. No one cared who I was until I put on the beret.
          - If I drop you off at the airfield will you die?
          - It would be extremely painful.
          - You're an elite unit.
          - For us.
          - Is getting surrounded part of your plan?
          - Of course! Mr Putin refused sane plans in favor of deploying us. We had to find out what fire support he sent us.
          - Nothing! I sent nothing!
          - Well congratulations! You've got yourself sortied! Now what's the next step of your assault plan?
          - Opposed combat drop. WITH NO SURVIVORS!
          - NO! They expect one of us in the BMD, brother.
          - Have we started the blunder?
          - Yes! The blunder unfolds.
          - Calm down President! Now is not the time for economic collapse. That comes later.

It does make sense with how the Russians are known to operate. They can't do anything at all until they get new orders from Putler. So right now they are just in complete disarray since no one can show any sort of initiative to try and stop Ukrainians from advancing. I figured that if the Ukrainians kept advancing the Russia lines would completely collapse due to this issue.

          Anonymous

They already crossed at Lyman. They can advance on the city from the west and north. Although I'd have to imagine most of this news is just to cause panic and confusion so Russians don't know where to send their reserves.

          Anonymous

I understand the area between kupiasnk and lisy is basically a wasteland, but the area directly east of the lysi-severo river is not. Severo can get reinforcements very fast if they will it, and they still have the 1k pieces of artillery on the luganda-dombabwe area AND the supply line from caucasian russia.
Lysi is as far as they can go without overextending.

There's of course the possibility that putin ordered an actual general retreat and they are all going back to the border, but the implications of that are huge.

            Anonymous

Maybe, the artillery isn't sighted at Severo though it's sighted at Bakhmut and I doubt the artillery men are going to stand and fight when there's nothing between them and the enemy. It's rapidly becoming apparent how thin the Russian line was and how starved their operstional reserves are.

            Anonymous

            >Severo can get reinforcements very fast if they will it
i was saying shit like this yesterday, but it's pretty fricking obvious now that whatever reserves there were in eastern ukraine are now running for russia like all the others. they don't have a choice, the roads are clogged with east and north bound traffic, in both lanes.

              Anonymous

I understand the the Luganda-Dombabwe BTGs are just thug armies armed only with cars and AKs.
I assume there must be at least one or two BTGs held in reserve in that area, probably in charge of the artillery

If there's really that few proper russian units in the area, it's fricking GG.

The two "Republics" are utterly drained of quality and quantity. Those who have been fighting Ukraine since 2014 have either died or fled by now leaving behind a weak pool of older, crippled, or really young people left to fight. It explains why the lines are folding so quickly. The actual Russian units are all understrength to a ridiculous degree and have relied on those republic forces to hold lines. The Russians can't both be on the offensive and hold lines with their manpower at the moment.

The Ukrainians can clearly move and manage themselves much better than the Russians, so now is the best time to chase them so they don't have the opportunity to cohere. The odds that there's so hidden Russian counterpush are effectively nil and they probably can barely defend certain sectors right now.

Other thing to always keep in mind is Ukraine has magic intel, being backed in that regard by NATO. That lets them move with FAR more confidence and aggression then they might risk otherwise at their level of military. They don't need to merely suspect there is no counterpunch brewing, they KNOW that the most advanced satellite/drone/ewar/humint surveillance in existence shows there is no such thing. If something starts gathering they'll be told that too. It's a hard factor to put hard numbers on but a huge deal. Like playing an RTS where one side gets to have the fog of war just turned off.

Honestly, and this may sound like cope, but the special military operation was already successful.

It bought Putin probably another 10 yrs in office. He is very popular with the citizens back home and can control the narrative regarding and potentially military losses.

        Anonymous

Not for long, not for a decade. You really can't hide military deaths of this scale at all. Especially when troops start to return. You think some 20yr old will be able to not tell some heartbroken mother exactly what she wants to know about her child's death. If putin brought every soldier back tomorrow he'd probably be dead in 6 months. He has to trickle people back in let the population absorb the information in small chunks.

that's why most of the soldiers he got killed where assorted plebs from all over Russia's far eastern regions, with few people from Moscow / St. Petersburg aside from some officers

no one from anywhere where local opinion matters at all was seriously harmed

Russian telegram channels and are likely as full of shills as anywhere else. If I were a glowBlack person trying to undermine Russia right now, I would be spamming the hell out of them with exactly what's going around now. It doesn't reach Ukrainian normalgays as much, who we really care about not selling false success to, but does hit the eyes of the average Russian soldier or DPR militiaman. Now is exactly the time to stoke panic. Such things are never made out of whole cloth, there must be some reality to it, and there is certainly something to work with today, even if it doesn't turn out to be everything you might hope.

All these wargames assume a competent and well equipped enemy. They're collapsing because the entire army is a badly trained corrupt shell with no NCOs and command initiative. Literally cannot react cohesively as soon as they're pressed hard with combined arms so just they'll just run and that rout will cause a chain reaction and it all comes tumbling down like a tower of cards.

It was inevitable so longs as the Ukranians could scrape together a force capable of making that hard push.

        >All these wargames assume a competent and well equipped enemy.
        This
No wargame expected the Soviets to run out fuel 200 km from the border or the abysmal state of their logistics

Ukraine probably launched probing attacks and found the enemy was weak and then kept pushing. New pushes started to press home the advantage of the enemy forces in dissaray. The Advisors are probably yelling at them to capitalise on the Russian weakness right now while they can keep many of Russia's presumambly best units held in Kherson responding to the threat of a UA assualt in the area

        >Ukraine probably launched probing attacks and found the enemy was weak and then kept pushing.
That is exactly what happened apparently. The Ukrainians were completely perplexed that there were no actual Russians to stop them from breaking the frontline, but once they realized it became a blitzkrieg to Izyum.

You'd better hope they planned this or the gains will stop soon. You don't get the logistics for a major offensive together in two days.
Personally I think the Ukrainian high command is competent and has a coherent and realistic plan for the conduct and aims of the war, and that this was a planned offensive. The recent major offensive in Kherson was mainly
intended to divert Russian reserves away from Izyum, otherwise why would Ukraine go for another bloody Battle of the Isonzo? Where does taking Kherson go? Kherson is not the road to Crimea any more than it is the road to Mykolaiv. Take it and you will have the same problem of bridges and supply that the Russians have now, minus the pile of Soviet-era bridging equipment that has let Russia cling on there. Kherson could be taken but an offensive will not proceed from there. It would simplify defense in the area for Ukraine and free up troops but it doesn't win the war.
Crushing the Izyum salient and breaking the Russian army on the Kharkov front does bring Ukraine closer to winning the war and may well be the stroke that wins the war. No matter what happens they'll also likely get Kherson out of it as Russia's situation in the heart of the LNR/DPR is now so dire that they will likely not be able to hold both. Possibly neither.

You know this was absolutely planned with advice from US Generals and intelligence advisors, right?

They're hoping Russia didn't actually learn any lessons from this, and a little bit nervous about the fallout. This seriously weakens Putin, because he staked a lot of his reputation on the military prowess of Russia. While NATO want to see him gone, they don't want an unstable nuclear power in the world.

    >We are actually surprised by how poorly the Russians have retreated,” said Kuzan. “Retreat is part of the art of war. When we retreated, we made sure they suffered losses as they advanced and we did to so to ensure that they only advanced 1, 2, 3 kilometres.
