Are these things still relevant ?
Why not just shoot them down when they are falling while parachuting ?
Couldn't you shoot their parachutes up enough to make them stop working and allow them to fall to their death. Seems like a very dumb idea
>Inb4 Geneva Convention
Its not Sports Ball
Seriously, who is going to say what guy shot the paratrooper in mid air ?
Fugging Prove I didn't shoot him while he was on the ground,
You can shoot at paratroopers bro it’s not illegal
who is going to say anything
Yo Bro.... don't shoot those guys until they land
FPBP. The rule only applies to air crews bailing out of disabled aircraft. You are flat out encouraged to shoot at paratroopers because they're damned well shooting back at yoou.
>FPBP. The rule only applies to air crews bailing out of disabled aircraft.
Even then no one is going to take accusations seriously unless you get caught. Air crew are more valuable alive though, since you can debrief them for intelligence and hold them for a higher exchange value than the common trash.
yeah
shooting paratroopers good
shooting pilots bad
> shooting pilots bad
nagger shooting pilots is like x100 the points
I thought you get an extra life for each pilot you kill
>shoot their parachutes up enough to make them stop working
How are you not aware that parachutes are designed with large holes in them?
Pretty sure they're designed with a specific amount of holes in them. Do you think just because they come with holes that they can still work with any number of holes?
Yes
You'd need to put a lot of holes, bullets are pretty much all low diameter. If you could put enough holes in the parachute to cause the paratrooper to fall to their death, you could also just shoot the paratrooper like 200 times. Unless you get lucky and hit his straps/buckles/etc but if you're good enough to do that you should again just aim for his head
What if the paratrooper aims for the bushes? What now smart man?
>They can still work with any number of holes?
Yeah, up to 5-digit numbers of "any".
Shooting paratroopers is and always has been kosher. It's shooting at downed pilots that's frowned upon.
downed pilots or any non combatant/injured person, shooting down the WSO in an F-15 or the loadmaster from a C-17/C-130 is viewed as just as bad
once they're on the ground, armed and trying to get away they're fair game of course but you can't shoot at them while they're potentially still injured and willing to surrender
Pilots who jump out of planes are considered to be hors de combat.
Infantrymen who jump out of planes are considered to be infantrymen.
No it’s not a crime to shoot at them while falling in it’s illegal to shoot at them with an AA gun while they are falling. Otherwise small arms are fine
>it’s illegal to shoot at them with an AA gun while they are falling
where is it stated this is illegal? is this like ye olde "you can't shoot at people with .50 cals, only equipment"?
Basically yes. It's an obscure rule and you might not be subject to it but rounds that enter the body and then explode are considered "Too gruesome". Of course, the .50 cal rule is often ignored so I don't think anybody is going to give you grief for shooting paratroopers with 20mm.
The 50 call rule is not "often ignored," it does not and has never existed. You don't shoot anti-materiel rounds at humans because of some pussy law about cruelty, but because it's a waste of ordnance. You are legally allowed to shoot infantry, paratroopers, vehicle crews, whatever with a rifle, a machine gun, an autocannon, a fucking canister round out of a 120mm and nothing prevents or excludes it legally.
ok
HOWEVER
That’s legal too actually. If they’re dropping in for operative purposes it’s totally legal to turkey shoot
>Paratroopers will attack you once they land
>Pilots/crew are more valuable as high value prisoners/intel
There's a Belgian technique for how to shoot falling paratroopers that was published in the 3rd volume of The Ranger Digest by Ranger Rick Tscherne. Tscherne learned it from the Belgians who taught the technique to their military. It's like 2/3rds of the way into the book.

That's a common misconception. You can shoot paratroopers midair as long as they are not actively making an attempt to surrender and as long as they are not parachuting from a damaged airplane such as a shot down pilot who ejected.
fire at them and give away our position all for a shot at mildly inconveniencing them
My grandpa was an AA gunner in Britain during the blitz. He did mention once that during training someone brought up paratroopers and in a very offensive quebecois accent his instructor said something along the lines of "you shoot at small target, kill one German, or shoot at airplane and get 12, tabernac"
Daily reminder: warcrimes are only warcrimes if you lose. So don't lose.
