Hmmm, oddly enough this update doesn't address any developments on the actual front since about two weeks ago when Ukraine has launched it's counter-offensive. Maybe one should wait a bit longer for it to truly gain the momentum, say, two more weeks?

It looks like they are expecting things to heat up a bit. We'll see if Russia can effectively move large amounts of troops and supplies across the river to Kherson.
Keep in mind we're in month six of the war, with the end not in sight. I don't think anyone is expecting a week long bumrush of Kherson to recapture it in one go.

The entirety of Lugansk have been liberated in early July already. Didn't the british MoD release an update about it or something? Well isn't that odd.
The Donbas offensive has now reached the Bakhmut-Soledar line. Basically the last extensive ukrainian line of defense after that would be Slavyansk-Kramatorsk. And beyond that, nothing. No lines of defense, no fortified positions, no large urban agglomerations and no troop reserves of a scale or quality that ukrainians have in the Donbas. Clear open country all the way to Dnieper river.

Land taken or lost means nothing in this war. Only men and material lost. Which is why the lack of reliable numbers is so frustrating.

Russia shifted a lot of resources to Kherson, which rightfully changes the logic and tempo of the offensive. Conditions changed and so you react to them. Maybe they didn’t locally have the force ratios needed and so you don’t just charge in and lose a bunch of guys. That would be the smart thing to do. Regardless, I’m having a good time watching Russians die.
