>drive hmmwv over the worst terrain known to man, slamming into giant rocks and catching air over dirt ramps the whole way, while redlining the transmission and transfer case >performs flawlessly >park hmmwv in motor pool and don't touch it for a week >coolant leak, engine oil burning, pieces of glass in the transmission, turret only turns to the left for some reason
Im convinced every problem the humvee had was due to poor logistics. Truck A needs x but we dont have it so lets take it from truck b because that one needs y and z.

Nah, the biggest issue is if you use them in rough conditions a lot are the 1/2 ton sized ball joints, tie rod ends and other steering components. Between the big tires and weight those components wear out quick as fuck. I've seen HMMWVs that the steering wheel would move from 10 to 2 with no movement at the tire.

you just can't have it all, huh?
according to his youtube channel, he came back to US for a while. he has some tools and machines he wants to transport to ukraine iirc
I follow him on insta too.
Fucking guy has been blown up three times now if I remember right, extremely lucky to still be alive and kicking.
I think he actually made a post stating that at some point he wants to meet the engineers behind the hmmwv and shake their hands because he's been in three that were exploded and he's still alive, lol.

I got to go to the HMMWV facility and do the Battle Damage and Assessment course and the Offroad Driving Course. The driving course was a lot of fun. I did a lot of offroading on my own time anyhow though. A non up armored HMMWV is a surprisingly capable offroad vehicle.
Slavs are honestly tons of fun.
Not the commie drones that still revolve around Moscow's sphere, I mean the ones that still have a level of independence that wasn't stamped out of them. They're like the rednecks of the East without the sisterfucking that Southerners in the US get up to.
>They're like the rednecks of the East without the sisterfucking that Southerners in the US get up to.
aside from leftwing social memes, this sort of thing doesn't happen in the real world. the groups with the highest rate of inbreeding are Arabs, and I say that as an Arab.
It's a problem, yeah. On the bright side, if you can get away from it for one or two generations it heals most of the damage unless you have Habsburg-tier pedigree collapse.
I'm still surprised they could add 1,500 lbs. of armor without ruining its cross-country performance. It wasn't all that long ago we had soft-door versions of the HMMWV in service, now they're honest-to-god armored cars.
One of the biggest problems with these is that they're stuck with the GM 6.5 diesel.
Every single one of those engines I've ever seen has had hairline cracks in the fucking heads. They all still worked but seemed a moment from catastrophic failure.
If they were able to convert them all to international 7.3s in the mid 90s they'd be a much better platform to this day, even saddled with all the up armor and extra nonsense.
see 6.5 Optimizer, it's a solid platform anon. If anything they should be all reverted to mechanical injection and remove the need for the PMD all together. Being able to run on anything in the POL shed, used or new, without worrying about the optical sensor on the injection pump is bretty cool. Mate that to a 6L90 and you have a near bulletproof drivetrain able to run on piss and vinegar.
the cracks in the heads a none issue most of the time if they get bad enough theyll start leaking coolant from a crack between the exhaust and intake seat but it can be fixed with an insert pressed into some water plugs on the sides of the heads
imo they should have sleeved the coolant passages on every head from factory
My guess is it just makes sense for the role. Its a pretty cheap and simple armored car. Your biggest threat with airbase defense is small sof raids or at the worst, VDV air assaults. You dont need mine protection like an MRAP and you dont need really good offroad like humvee or jeep. It needs to be bullet proof, nimble and off road capable enough so it doesnt get stuck on base. I bet they are a lot cheaper than an MRAP and more reliable too.
This piece of shit broke down on us coming back from a patrol 10 miles out from the FOB. We were sitting ducks for like 4 hours before reinforcements arrived because the spares we had in the motor pool were also broken. We had to have Brits on a town over give us a lift back. GWOT was full of many gaffs. Lmao.
I've had mostly pleasant experiences with humvees, but they've mostly been unarmored ambulance versions. I really love the M997, I'd privately own one but convert it into a camper. Maybe add some windows. Then again I know tactical medicine and nothing about motor vehicles, so it probably wouldn't be a good match.
Yeah, that's true. Nothing like trying to keep a patient strapped in while bouncing around like a pinball inside, and then the doors suddenly bust open. Yuma was rough but fun lol. If I wasn't wearing my helmet inside like I good boy I probably would have had a serious TBI.
I worked with a retired firefighter/medic that rode around some of these in the early 1990s. It was rural Appalachia and response times were already abysmal but they were unfortunately struck by heavy snow storms and the national guard had to come in and drive these around in substitution of standard ambulances. He wasn’t the biggest fan as they lacked the amenities and equipment found in standard civil ambulances (which makes sense) but they did a good job driving in harsh terrain and conditions such as unlaced roads, gravel, mud, and snow.

what embarrassing event has befallen ruzzia's pozzed gypsy army now
Ukies crossed the Dnipro with zero resistance
How is that more sustainable than when Chechen riot police captured Kherson?
these threads have been made before ukie war anon.
That 'anon' wasn't here before the war.
meds
Don't worry it's just the fuel pump.
And in five miles it'll be the head gasket

so the same problem every yee yee truck in america has

you had one job dipshit
Seeing that American opening up with a 50 in a humvee on Russians in Ukraine was kino.
nucking futz yuri. wonder where he is

what do you mean surprisingly thats its intended in its design its even in the name
>No, AMMO! Fiddy cal!

the CHADvee
those slavs in awe lol

Forgot the image.

the jltvs now use 6.6l duramaxes and i for one cannot wait to hear stories of mechanics bitching about head gaskets and head warpage

Borderline Personality Disorder: The Vehicle
Service is much more streamlined for that than a Stryker.
>mistreat a vehicle
>fail to PMCS properly
>fail to fix issues found
>fail to correct use of vehicle
>surprised when shit breaks down
What is that *thing* on the top?
You don't recognize a shielded turret and you come to /k/?
It's a greenhouse.
Are those turrets powered somehow, or does the gunner have to manhandle them around?
it's suspended on ball bearings and pullies so it's far more mechanically efficient than you think
post more armored cars
the Komatsu LAV has really nice lines
I've always thought the Cadillac Gage Commando was kino.
yeah
I understand only the American MPs use it. The modern version anyway, not the OG. I don't understand why the MPs get their own vehicle.
