Instead of tanks why don't we move towards more compact heavy up armored missile tossers with a small cannon. The big cannon made sense when most artillery was static, but now we have extremely mobile artillery that can pound from behind the front line. So why not have a very explosive resilient little armored vehicle with like a quad or six pack of javelins and a 20mm for engaging infantry and less armored targets.
ok anon. Lets think about your idea. Since the artillery is mobile we also need to be mobile so lets toss the armor completely since that slows us down. Lets also ditch the expensive javelins because they were designed to be man portable and thus many of the electronics are expensive due to their compactness, and replace them with precision guided bombs. Lets also ditch the ground vehicle concept since it slows us down and is easier to destroy compared to an air vehicle.
Yeah. Sounds like you didn't think at all though. You still need to defeat enemy armor. So you need some missiles, you still need to deal with enemy infantry ambush so you need the 20mm. But instead of a big turret on top and carousel of ammo you have a much lighter package. Up armored to deal with IFV's etc on the opposing force. But much more geared for a modern war where a cannon is not your best option any longer for enemy armored vehicles.
The M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank, built for intense combat in diverse environments of the 21st battlefield from dense cities to wide open plains. Equipped with state of the art weapons including it's 120 mm M256A1 smoothbore cannon capable of accurately destroying targets from miles away, and it's 0.50 caliber M2HB heavy machine gun capable of shredding targets with 575 rounds per minute.
The M1A2 is also ready for 21st cyber warfare with it's upgraded electronic and information systems, capable of communicating and calculating the deadly Intel of the battlefield.
Because of it's 1,500 horsepower Honeywell AGT1500 gas turbine engine, the Abrams breaks no sweat traversing terrains as rough as the rocky mountains of Afghanistan or as inhospitable as the frozen tundra of Eastern Europe.
Fortified by armor made with reinforced steel as thick as 960mm, and reinforced with ceramic armor plating, the crew inside the M1A2 feel safe knowing their tank is able to withstand even the most high powered anti-tank shoulder fired rockets, such as the Russian RPG-28.
With it's high firepower unmatched by any other tank, and it's 21st century cyber warfare capabilities, as well it's do-it-all 1,500 horsepower engine, and finally it's impressive armor rating unseen by any other tank, the M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank scores number one on our deadliest tank countdown.

in the 21st century tanks are for sucking up resources that could be more effectively used in any other military capacity
t. moron that thinks that "IFVs" with more armor and bigger guns (tanks 2.0) will replace tanks
they got more enemy tank kills in Desert Storm than the tanks did so yeah, they already could 30 years ago

Every day I thank God that our military isn't run by people from here. Trannies and israelites have smarter takes than this, for fricks sake.
