Nah gen 2 S60 are the bees knees. They're also better than d60s because they can fit in double mag pouches b***h!

The NGSW needs a super high pressure full power cartridge in order to pierce the lvl 3+ ceramic plates most popular among American civilians, the US govt's primary enemy.

No it fricking doesn't moron. 3+ exists solely to stop green tip 5.56 m193 and 7.62x39

          M995 is a thing.
Just because the titanium-tipped shit is rare doesn't mean it doesn't exist in that caliber and can pen basically any level 3/3+ and probably most level 4

            Anonymous

It absolutely cannot pen lvl4 moron
lvl 4 can stop multiple hits of black tip 30-06

              Anonymous

black tip 30-06 (which is actually put in a .300WM cartridge for NIJ tests) is hardened steel.

M995 is tungsten and it can pen some level 4 plates, though it depends on the velocity (short barrel shit probably wont pen as easily) and how far your target is.

Interesting. Honestly I think at some point possibly within the next 10 years wearing armor will just be pointless and you will be better of being more mobile instead of trying to defeat insane rounds like that.

                Anonymous

I mean the army-grade body armor IS rated to take a few shots of M995.

ESAPI rev. G+ is rated for 3 shots of M995 but nothing more
XSAPI is similarly rated for 3 shots of M995 (5.56 tungsten AP) but it's also rated for up to 3 shots of M993 (7.62 tungsten AP)

NIJ level 4 is hard to directly compare because the army body armor ratings aren't tested in the same way. But ESAPI is generally thought to be = to or better than NIJ level 4. And I guess XSAPI would be NIJ level 5 if such a level existed.

But yeah I would expect the new 6.8x51mm "Special purpose" round (XM1184) can pen ESAPI and probably XSAPI too.

Probably jams. Adding another pound to an AR often fricks up the benefit of having a lightweight, intermediate-caliber rifle anyways. The difference between an 8lb and a 9lb rifle is pretty striking. Also, double mag pouches are a thing, homosexual.

quad stack mags are shit and always will be, introducing more points of internal jamming will never work as well as fewer friction points in a double stack double feed.

      Anonymous

      These quads use improved geometry.

        Anonymous

Again, it still worse than double stack double feed.

Quad stack double feed adds two friction points internally that simply don't exist in a double stack double feed.

It's great it's better than some other quad stack mags out there, but they're still statistically more likely to have feed reliability problems compared to a standard double stack double feed mag.

They're probably fine for range play and similar shit, but our military wont touch them, they're simply not as reliable.

Canada is making a cool new rifle.

Countries that still use the AR after the next couple decades will be seen in hindsight like the armies of WW2 that used bolt-action rifles. Technology is advancing past the point of needing a billion rounds fired per enemy killed.

they're buying like 15,000 guns this year, so unless they very quickly stop this program, you're getting the M5.

They bought ~1400 total SCARs across 2 different variants.

The army is buying over 14,000 M5's in FY23 and another 20-30,000 the year after.

Not even close to the same scale as the SCAR.

15000 guns doesn't even come close to arming the Close Combat Force let alone the active US Army or the reserves. That's a gun you're issuing one of to each fireteam or squad, probably in the marksman role.

            >ne of to each fireteam or squad, probably in the marksman role
It's a little under 15,000 next year ALONE, the year after it like doubles, by FY26 I think they'll have delivered all ~110,000 guns.

Maybe FY27-28 if they stay at ~25-30k/year and don't ramp up further.

      > CMAR project is currently in the options analysis phase, and he expects to enter “the definition phase by the end of 2022,” he told Canadian Army Today in February. “By then, we’ll know if we’re going to do an upgrade or buy a new design.

they don't even know if it'll be an upgrade or a whole new gun yet, and they don't expect to field it until the late 2020s or early 2030s at the earliest even if they go with an upgrade of the existing M4(C7/C8) platform.

Yes Canadian procurement is moronic. Last year they were so close to getting P320's but then Glock sperged out and they have to re-do the entire competition.

why can't they just make it 60 rounds? 53 is such an ugly number. neverminded the fact that it's gonna take up the same room for 2x 30 round mags in the pouch.
